I was a little disappointed with this book, although it was a brilliant concept that I thought I was going to love it just wasn’t how I wanted it to be. The main character is actually quite unlikeable which is such a shame and I didn’t find it as funny as I thought it was going to be. I’m sad that I didn’t like it it just wasn’t for me.

I did not finish this. I didn’t like the format, and I couldn’t get into it. I kept thinking I’d come back to this, but I can’t seem to make myself.

Confession may be good for the soul , but when your heart and soul are threatened would you stop nothing to retain a norm? These and other questions riddle this lively look at when to fish or cut bait. The majority of her adult life has been between the shelves a d rows of her business. A bookstore in need of repairs in and outside the store. A new merchant appears to threaten the very existence of this neighborhood bastion. Fawn isn’t taken in by the welcome of the new owner of a bookstore she only sees as rival, encroaching on her well trod turf. Below this surface irritation is Fawns reluctance to face her everyday troubles including the impending loss of her father, who is in hospice. The building is almost not worth the money it would take to fix it. Where would you turn, the answer will surprise you.

In this book we follow Fawn, the owner of a (not so successful) bookstore in Philadelphia. She is so self-centered, so abnoxious, so disconnected from reality that I just couldn't stand reading from her perspective any longer.
As a book lover and someone that loves cats, I was hoping to enjoy this, I couldn't be more wrong.

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but was immediately drawn to the unique formatting. It was interesting that it was written in so many different forms of communication. Fawn was definitely a witty and unique individual that had quite the dream life and had a different take on face and story for the people in her life. Her antics were often amusing, yet many times way out there. I found this book to be quite a bit longer than it needed to be and lost it's luster over time. I thought this was definitely a quirky read, but just seemed a little self indulgent. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

Fawn, the protagonist and quirky bookstore owner, was too self-involved and detached from reality for me to identify with throughout the book. I struggled to finish this. I was hoping for You've Got Mail vibes, but really didn't get any of that from this novel.

I did not love this is as much as I thought that I would, sadly. I was very excited to read this and it fell flat for me, unfortunately. I’m sure there are others that will love it. Thank you for the opportunity!

This just didn’t end up being a book that interested me. When I first read the premise, I was very excited and invested, but getting into it made it clear that it just wasn’t for me. Hopefully it works for others out there!

I enjoyed this quirky, funny book composed of emails between characters and of blog entries. Fawn is the owner of a rundown, old bookstore that suddenly has competition from a new bookstore down the street, called The Grumpy Mug Bookstore. Fawn has some delusional ideas about how she can bring in more business. She finds it difficult to compete with the new bookstore, as they actually sell new books, sell delicious coffee, and have events. She even has her employees go through the competition’s trash for items they can recycle and use. It’s fun to see what she will do or say next! I was initially drawn to the cover and the synopsis. While I tried hard to enjoy this novel, I did struggle with the writing style and had a very hard time connecting to the characters. In the end, I found the concept to be cute but I don't know that this book was for me.

I was super excited about this book as I loved you’ve got mail but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me. While it had some sweet moments, I just couldn’t connect with the characters.

Back in the 1990s I crushed so damn hard on the movie, You've Got Mail. I don't know why (Nora Ephron was damn fabulous though). It was just this sweet, feel good, leave your own reality for a while kind of movie. Obviously I've had those same feelings with a few books; a recent one being Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. It has all the same feels I got 20 years ago with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Enter Confessions of a Curious Bookseller. Somewhere in my head (and in the book description) I was thinking it would be equal parts You've Got Mail and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine... Ehhhhhhh, not so much. What made those two stories work was how damn likeable the female protagonist were; Fawn was just ok. She did too many things that made me not really want to root for her the way I did with Eleanor. Also, I don't feel she was nearly as adept at running that bookstore as Meg Ryan's Kathleen Kelley.
I do however think that maybe the biggest problem was that it was epistolary format. I am totally open to non-traditionally format novels (Daisy Jones? Opal and Nev?... Loved both). But, it was kinda like something was lost in the translation when it was told through emails, texts, etc. However, the story is still an interesting one and perhaps could rock things as a movie.

Maybe this one just wasn’t my speed. I had trouble getting the feel of the pace early on and was confused about the main character’s inner dialogue and conflictions. Great ending though!!

Fawn owns a struggling bookstore and things only get worse when a hip new store opens down the block. Unfortunately, this book was a fail for me. The epistolary style kept me from connecting from the characters unless you count not liking Fawn at all. I was expecting "you've got mail vibes" and funny and instead just didn't like the main character.

This is such a sweet book - following Fawn, the owner of an eccentric bookshop. It has been written in the form of her emails to staff, family and reviewers of the shop, and this format creates such insight into her life and what she discovers about herself throughout the course of the book.

This would be a great book for a bookclub as I feel there are many discussion points.

I’m likely to purchase this book for my library’s collection only because it takes place in the library’s neighborhood. I wanted to love this book, but it was just ok.

Sadly I couldn’t finished this one. I just didn’t connect with Fawn. I was looking forward to reading this book as I love reading books about books but this one... omg was painful. I’m sure there are people out there who would enjoy it.
