This was one of those books that I found myself reaching for every chance I got. The storyline was brilliant and had me captivated instantly. Introducing us to perfectly developed characters, and a plot full of twists and turns, this is undoubtably one of the best thrillers I have read in some time!.
Looking to make a new, better life for her children and herself, this young mother will move them to a smaller town. They will start over, new schools, new friends and hopefully, a new job. But everyone they meet will not be friendly. The story will travel along some roads that will seem familiar but the destinations are surprising. A good thriller that held my attention with a few twists along the way.
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
This got lost in all the other thrillers for me, it was an entertaining read but there was nothing special about it to me
I enjoyed this and thought the dual perspectives really added to the plot. It was quite twisty and unpredictable which is just what a thriller needs
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Great mystery/thriller novel. The cover is neat.
Such a twisty read and I loved it. The narrative switches between the two characters and the past and present makes for compelling reading and keeps you guessing as to what was really happened. Really good ending.
I found this book well enough written and a quick, enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
A really good read ! It was one of those ‘ just one more chapter ‘ books ! Told from the POV of the 2 main characters, each chapter ended with you wanting to find out what happens next. Very clever storyline that kept you guessing right up to the end !
A quick and easy read but quite predictable. The story illustrates just how toxic female friendships can be
Tension Fuelled…
Tension fuelled, psychological suspense in this gripping novel of the toxicity of friendship. Deftly drawn characters populate a swiftly moving plot. With twists aplenty and some surprises, this is a tautly written, intriguing and enjoyable read.
The best of friends was the first book I've read by Day. I enjoyed all the twist in it. I never saw that ending coming. I hope to read more by Day. 4.5 stars
Phenomenal storytelling in this one, with intoxicating twists and turns. I really got wrapped up in all that was going on from the very start and read right through it so fast. The pacing was quick and really easy to read.
This book was so enjoyable very well written about a toxic female friendship and that can make a very interesting thriller! The fast pace put me on the edge of my seat a lot of times and the twits were very well done!
Many thanks to Harper Collins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is a very well written book. A proper psychological thriller. I whizzed through this storyline.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC
I found this to be an enjoyable read, keeping me on my toes throughout. The storyline was written well and flowed seamlessly. I look forward to reading more by this author!
Great book. Highly recommend and will most defiantly read more by this author and suggest to others!
a book that keeps you on your toes! thank you for this one. I love (fictional) toxic relationships and these girls sure have that. as well as too many secrets! overall a good, quick psychological thriller.
This is my first book by Alex Day that I have read.
Susannah and her two boys have moved to a small town in the South of England. She has a big secret… Charlotte lives in a small town in the South of England with her husband, Dan, and her four boys’. She has a big secret. The two women become friends; pretentious best friends. Clinging onto each other because for their own reasons they need each other.
The book had a slow start and only towards the end there was some thrill. As a lawyer (who is quite possibly reading into it too much), the book left with me a lot of questions at the end and quite possibly HOW Susannah ended up how she did given that there was much evidence against Charlotte herself.
Overall, the book was not too bad but equally not gripping at all. I only recommend it if you need a quick, easy read.
It’s not a book a would recommend but thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for giving me an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
A nice book. I read it quite quickly and I liked the characters. I’d like to read more by this author as it left me feeling like I’d read a solid story with a good ending, which is not always what happens!
