This book was intriguing and kept me guessing to what was going to happen. These types of books peak my interest because they make you what would you do in these types of situations. This book was a quick read and kept me on the edge of my seat. It also made me stop and think about friendships.
This is a character driven story where secrets and betrayal are hidden beneath the facade of friendship. Appearances are deceiving as the story unfolds from alternating perspectives from Charlotte and Susannah. Tension rises towards the end, where a twist occurs I never saw coming. Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter for my copy.
I found the first half of this book a little slow to be honest. But the second half was brilliant and the plot took off with a bang. It was great and the characters were true to life. I felt like I was holding my breath in some parts and I could not read the pages fast enough. It reaches a dramatic conclusion and it just goes to show what a scorned woman would do to save the luxury life she is used too. A gripping, domestic suspense, mystery which I really enjoyed.
This was an enjoyable read that had tension oozing from the page. The plot was well crafted
Many thanks to Harper Collins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really liked this book, it is told by two different points of view. It was filled with twists. The way it started of slow and ended up with an awsome ending sold the book for me.
Charlotte is so happy when she learns that Susannah moves to town - they become good friends, only each woman's lives are not as they seem..
Two women became friends and became each other's BFF. But as in all these stories, there were secrets and forbidden desires. There were some twists, but the plotline needed more suspense to make it read faster. Overall, it was a good, somewhat predictable read.
This is the second book I have read by Alex Day and I enjoyed this book as well. The Best of Friends Alex Day This book is as the title says "Best Friends" is portrayed as a 2-person point of view, a story about two women who become very close to each other in a very short period of time..
One is called Susannah who has recently moved to the South of England with her two sons following a difficult divorce and Charlotte, who is married to Dan, they have 4 sons and life appears to be so perfect to all her friends and everyone around her.
Charlotte starts to trust and confide in Susannah about what is happening within her marriage and secrets come out between them. Susannah has also a big secret and she need to tell someone about it.........
Whilst these secrets are surfacing and when the truth come out not everyone will survive.
Thanks to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter /for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Whilst it was fairly predictable with unlikeable characters I actually enjoyed this read even though I would place more in the Domestic Drama category .
Told from the POV of two main characters Susannah & Charlotte in more of a diary form, at times it did read awkwardly but then again who's diaries wouldn't if someone else was reading them?
Personally I wish it had been more thrilling but overall a good read full of lies and secrets.
Thanks to netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC.
This kept my attention all the way through. Read in a few days - plot twisted and turned - can recommend
For being a "thriller", this book was not very thrilling. It missed the mark. The idea had potential, but was not well written. It was predictable and did not excite me. I really wanted to like this book, but just didn't.
This book drew me in from the first chapter and kept me interested all the way through. It is cleverly written and plotted, even if I didn’t particularly like the main characters. I liked the use of the different chapters being the points of view of Susannah and Charlotte, who both have skeletons in their past. I read this is one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was a well-written story that just didn't capture my attention as thoroughly as I would have liked.. I felt like the twists and turns were really easy to guess, and sometimes I don't mind that, but with this book, I felt frustrated about it. The writing is really great, and I enjoyed the characters as well, I think the plot was just not amazing for me.
I do intend to read more of Alex Day's work because the writing is strong!
A good read by Alex Day. This is my first read by the author and I will look for more books.
In this story we meet two women, Susannah who is recently divorced and moving away with her two sons. We also meet Charlotte, who it appears to the reader has a picture-perfect life. They meet and form a very close relationship. They are the complete opposite, as in how their life style is but they both seemingly have deep, dark secrets that they are holding close to their hearts. The novel is told by both women's side of the story and it makes for an interesting read. I did find that it was quite slow in places and I was skim reading, which happens when I my interest is not fully held by the author but it was a good read.
Thanks to Alex Day, NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I liked this book! It was a quick read that kept me on my toes until the big twist! I wished the friendship was stronger than the book tried to make it before the crazy started. Allso, the "secret" of Charlotte was built up but then a bit of a let down! I rate this book a 3.4
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
I’m not sure how I felt about this book. It certainly had intriguing surprises and aha moments but I figured out the storyline pretty quick and found the characters irritating. I found both Charlotte and Susannah to be uninteresting and bland. The story could have been better and one of their secrets was just not worth all the intrigue put into hiding it and then ‘surprising’ us with it. There were some interesting parts of the story and I liked but it just did not hold my attention.
Susannah and Charlotte are new friends ... destined to be best friends. Susannah is a new resident in a small town in England. She is newly divorced and mom to two young sons.
Charlotte is married to Dan, they have 4 sons. Charlotte may appear to have the perfect husband, the perfect family, the perfect house, but she needs someone to confide in.
One of them is not who they purport be. Underneath the surface, secrets, lies and betrayals exist ... and when the truth comes out, not everyone will survive. Charlotte's secret is keeping her looking over her shoulder at all times. Susannah also has a huge secret from her past.
The plot balances between simplicity and complexity. Told in alternating chapters by Charlotte and Susannah, the reader is privy to both sides of their story ... but one of them is lying. Which one? I did not particularly like the main characters at first glance .. but while I didn't like, they did kind of grow on me. There are twists and turns leading to an unexpected conclusion.
Many thanks to the author / Harper Collins UK / One More Chapter / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological Domestic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I could not put this book down! So many twists and turns that I did not see coming. Compelling and well-written, would definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed this book.. I was surprised at some of the twists. I would definitely recommend this book.
