Under the Cover of Murder by Lauren Elliott is a trip back to Addie and the gang just in time for Serena's and Zach's wedding, which is not going well at all. Zach's stepmother has taken over and all but hijacked the wedding. Addie has had to talk Serena down several times, but finally the day has arrived. The ceremony went off well and the reception was going well until Addie spied Lacey, Marc's ex-girlfriend, who had NOT been on the guest list. Why was she here? Maybe to cause trouble? After the man who had been found dead on the beach, the last thing Marc and Ryley needed was Lacey stirring up trouble. Next thing you know, she turned up dead. So much for the relaxing weekend on the yacht for Addie and Simon, who was also the coroner.
Love this series. The characters are terrific and often have the same problems you and I have. Addie's cafe/bookshop is doing well and now with her aunt married, she had to hire some help, but that was doable.
Addie is an excellent detective and Marc knows that well. It is mostly Ryley, is partner and girlfriend, who has problems with Addie helping. The characters in this book are well-written and each takes his/her turn to take center stage. This time it was Marc and we learned a lot about him. The mystery is a good one with lots of people involved and LOTS of secrets. It's always good when there is a stepmother and a mother both at a wedding, although this time that was not really a huge issue, except for harvesting a lot of information from Zach's mother. Eventually, all's well that ends well. Another murder (or two) solved.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Under the Cover of Murder by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #netgalley #underthecoverofmurder
I haven’t read a cozy mystery for a few months now and this book reminded me why I love them and has me wanting to read more by the author. I love a bookstore owner as a main character and a sleuth and that’s just what Abbie is as she is invited to work with the police to solve murders that happened on a yacht while her friend celebrates her nuptials. The characters are fun, the mystery is fun, and there’s talk about books.
In this sixth installment in Lauren Elliott's Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series, the big day for Addie's best friend Serena and her fiancé Zack has finally arrived and they are getting married on his family's luxurious yacht, currently moored in the town's harbor. But a few hours before the wedding, the body of a man washes up on the beach. No one recognizes the man and the wedding proceeds as planned. However the next day, the body of a guest is found on the beach. While the murders are being investigated, Addie and the other wedding guests are forced to stay on the yacht for a few days, and obviously, Addie decides to do some sluething.
Another fun visit to Greyborne Harbor. I love how the characters have grown and developed. I am a big sucker for locked door type mysteries, so naturally, I enjoyed the yacht setting in this installment, with a killer on board and lots of shady things going on, including affairs, family secrets, and book forgery. There was no shortage of suspects and twists and turns to keep you guessing until the conclusion.
A great read and I look forward to the next book, especially with the addition of Pippi.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Addie is known both as a bookseller and as a bit of an amateur detective, someone who can't help but be intrigued by the mystery of a crime. So when one body is found, and then another, surrounding the luxury yacht where an over-the-top wedding has just occurred, Addie starts exploring the library in the hope of picking up some clues. When the guests and staff are all kept on the yacht as suspects, Addie knows she must hurry before the killer strikes again.
This was a fun, enjoyable read. Even though I haven't read the rest of the series, I didn't really feel confused or unable to follow the relationships and side plots. I really liked the relationships between Addie and her close friends, and Addie and her boyfriend.
The solution to the mystery seemed a bit out of left field-there didn't really seem to be any way a reader could have figured it out from the previous pages. But the characters were well-done, and I loved that the mystery centered around books, especially an Agatha Christie.
3 stars = Fine/Solid/Good
This is the first book in this series I have read. The mystery was good. Some of the writing choices didn't work for me and there were a TON of characters which made it hard to keep track of who was who at times. Series fans should enjoy this - the setting was fun, and they will be more familiar with the core characters.
This was definitely one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, in this series! Getting ready for the most exciting wedding of all time, Addie finds herself aboard a yacht with more people than expected. Multiple mysteries are intertwined in this story line, keeping readers racing through each page to hopefully catch all of the subtle clues provided. Not only does Addie get herself involved in solving a book fraud operation, but not one but two murders are on the suspect board for solving. I love the setting of this book, aboard the yacht with so many mysterious characters, friends, foes, family members and more unexpected guests bringing unexpected twists to a very cleverly planned out storyline. Bravo for another great entry into one of my favorite series!! Thank you for continuing to keep us entertained with wonderful characters and original mysteries!
Under the Cover of Murder is an entertaining story within a good mystery and wonderful characters that keep reader coming back the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mysteries.
When a dead Body with only a book page, washes up on the beach next to where her best friend is getting married, Addie gets called in to help. When another soon follows she can’t help to get herself involved. Every guest on the yacht is a suspect and with everyone sequestered on board. When the possible motive is as long as the guest list Addie does the thing that she does best, put on her charm, listen really well and ask just the right questions.
Addie is a great character and I enjoy every visit with her. Under the Cover of Murder is a wonderful cozy mystery, set in a beautiful little town with a nice touch of romance. Addie’s friends are like family and she does what it takes for any of them. Family and friendship with a bit of murder.
Under the Cover of Murder by Lauren Elliott is the 6th book in Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series, and another great addition. Addie Greyborne was a librarian at the Boston Public Library, working with rare books, and is now living in a small town in New England. In this book Addie is busy in her role as maid of honor, for her best friend, Serena's, wedding aboard a luxurious super yacht. The morning after the wedding, the yacht goes into lock down, because of a death. Addie is asked to help Mac with the rare book collection, since some appear to be forgeries. Determined to get to the truth, Abby and her friends start sleuthing. I enjoyed this book/series, with all the twists and turns, and I can not wait for the next book in the series. If you love cozy mysteries, I highly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Addie's best friend, Serena, is finally getting married to the love of her life. The only problem is that her future mother-in-law is taking over everything. Addie is determined that her best friend have the best wedding. When some uninvited guests are found murdered, Addie is determined to help the police so that the entire wedding party doesn't have to stay on a yacht indefinitely. The only good thing is that Serena and her new hubby were able to get out and on their honeymoon before everything got locked down.
As this series has been progressing, I have enjoyed the books more and more. I really like Addie as a character. And I love her with Simon. This was a fun version of a locked room mystery on a yacht. It added a fun twist. I am truly loving this series. I can't wait to see what's next!
I have been reading this series since the beginning and this maybe my favorite so far. Serena is getting married to Zach. Her mother in law insists are throwing a large society wedding. The ceremony is going to take place on Zach's family super yacht docked in Greyborne Harbor. When one of the guests is murdered and Addie and her friends are forced to stay on the boat they set out to solve the crime. Addie also suspects that many of the valuable books in the library are not what the seem. I really enjoyed the setting and the characters. The mystery was good and there were lots of suspects and motives. I like that Addie works the police and the police also work with her. This series should be read in order. I look for word to reading the next book. Enjoy
Addie and friends are gathered for Serena and Zack's big day...but what big event could pass without a body or two? Addie and friends search for clues while twist and turns and secrets muddy the waters. Elliott writes a great story with well developed characters and plenty of ambiance. The plot takes nice twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and wondering who did it. Another solid addition to this wonderful series. If you haven't tried this series yet you really should plan a visit to Grayborne Harbor.
This is the sixth book in the 'Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery' series.
The author, Lauren Elliott has created some extremely likeable characters in this cozy mystery. I have already met Addie Greyborne, the protagonist and bookshop owner, in book 2 who I found to be very smart and independent with good eavesdropping skills.
In this instalment, Addie is maid-of-honour to her best friend, Serena who is getting married to Zach Ludlow onboard a salubrious yacht, moored in Greyborne Harbour. However, the bride's stepmother-in-law, Veronica has taken over the proceedings, inviting all of her chums to quaff champagne on the yacht. With the wedding due to commence in less than 24 hours time, Addie is asked by ex-boyfriend and police chief Marc Chandler for her help on a case. A body has been found on the beach yards from the Ludlow's yacht and in the victim’s pocket is a page torn from a book that Marc is hopeful Addie can recognise. When a further unexplained death occurs Addie, along with the majority of the wedding guests are unable to leave the yacht. With a killer on board and multiple options as to motive Addie goes in search of the clues she needs.
The plot was well thought out and there was a good number of suspects in the frame. The author laid out clues in a way that made each of them a viable prospect as the perpetrator. I was somewhat surprised at the killer's identity as I fell for some of the red herrings so cleverly set by the author. The pacing in this novel was good and there was always something happening, so I was certainly never bored! With a surprising ending, Under the Cover of Murder was a fantastic cozy mystery that I highly recommend. I am already looking forward to returning to Addie's bookshop, 'Beyond the Page' in Massachusetts in book seven, entitled To the Tome of Murder as well as catching up on the instalments I've missed. Rating: 5 Stars.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my own request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Under The Cover Of Murder is the sixth book in the Beyond The Page Bookstore Mystery series by Lauren Elliott.
The day for Addie Greybourne’s BFF, Serena Chandler, and Zach Ludlow’s wedding has finally arrived. As Addie is about to head for the future in-law’s mega-yacht, Police Chief Matt Chandler asks her to come to the police station. After she arrives, he shows her a picture of a body that was found near the yacht and wants to know if she might know who he is. He also shows her a piece of paper that was with the body and asks if Addie knows where it might have come from. She relates that she has never seen the man and the scrap of paper appears to come from an older book.
Addie heads for the yacht to help Serena to get ready for her wedding. As they arrive at the salon where the ceremony will be held, Addie is shocked to see that there must be a hundred people in attendance, whereas about thirty guests were expected. Addie hopes that Serena will not turn around and leave, but the wedding goes on without a hitch. Then, at the reception, Lacey’s appearance, a former employee of Serena’s, had stolen money from Serena’s tea shop and disappeared. Addie gets Serena and Zach off on their honeymoon without Serena seeing Lacey. While Addie was having breakfast, the following day finds Addie and informs her that Lacey’s body has been found in seaweed near the dock’s piling where the yacht is being docked. Soon they are in Oliver Ludlow’s, the yacht’s owner’s, office. Addie is impressed with the books that are on the shelves there. Many of which appear that they may be very valuable. Addie is also surprised by Matt seems to want her help in the investigation. With her boyfriend’s, Simon, aid, some of her friends, Addie, begin to investigate the murders before any more people lose their lives.
It’s always lovely to visit the fine residents of Greyborne Harbor. This story is well-written and plotted. The characters are well-developed and believable. There were enough twists and turns that I was kept guessing until the end who the killer was.
I am looking forward the reading the next book in this series, To The Tome of Time, due out in October 2021.
WhoDunit on a Fabulous Yacht
Imagine a yacht that is built like a cruise ship and as well-appointed as a country mansion. First, it becomes the sight of a wonderful wedding, then the investigation of two murders. This book has quite the plot! There are secrets and lies hiding all through the yacht. There are too many suspects and too many motives to solve this easily. And then Addie finds some forged first editions and all hell breaks loose. This is a fast-moving book. The reader may find a viable suspect just to have that theory throw overboard. The final denouement is quite surprising to all, especially this reader. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.
Addie Greyborne’s best friend, Serena Chandler, is getting married to Zach Ludlow! Unfortunately, the wedding itself if off to a rocky start. Serena’s future mother-in-law (and Zach’s stepmom), Veronica, has ignored every single request or desire for Serena’s wedding, turning the wedding plans into a high society occasion. Heck, the setting is even aboard Veronica and Oliver’s yacht! Fortunately, the yacht is still anchored in Greyborne, allowing Serena’s family and friends to fully participate. However, a dead body washes ashore the day of the wedding, while a second body is found the day after. Addie is determined to uncover the murderer, especially when one of the clues involves an Agatha Christie book.
UNDER THE COVER OF MURDER is the 6th book in the Beyond the Page Bookstore series. While the majority of the story is a stand-alone tale, some of the references to past relationships between the characters may have some readers preferring to read the series in order. Lauren Elliott provides all the necessary back history to fully appreciate the story, including the emotional angst involving several former love triangles. The ending has a couple tidbits for readers familiar with the series that will make you both cry and warm your heart at the same time.
One of the highlights of the Beyond the Page Bookstore series is that each book features a different collector book. UNDER THE COVER OF MURDER actually features several, although the Agatha Christie book is the main one mentioned and just happens to be one of the first books I read by Mrs. Christie. I love how Addie digs into the history of books and explains the details about what makes a book a collector’s item and how she distinguishes between a true edition and a fake. The part about books having a distinct smell surprised me a bit but learning new book facts is part of the fun of reading Lauren Elliott’s fabulous series!
I love Addie and her friends, and we got to spend a lot of time with them in UNDER THE COVER OF MURDER. Good thing, too, as Lauren Elliott also introduced us to a whole host of Veronica’s friends and employees and most of them are not the kind of people you want to be trapped on a yacht with for very long! Lauren Elliott throws us all sorts of red herrings, as almost everyone we meet seems capable of murder.
UNDER THE COVER OF MURDER is yet another fun visit with Addie and the other residents of Greyborne Harbor! Lauren Elliott’s engaging characters continue to delight even as they face hardships, danger, and even sorrow at times. I love the twist on books here as we visit the yacht’s library rather than our usual time at Addie’s bookstore, but oh is the visit well worth it! UNDER THE COVER OF MURDER is the perfect cozy mystery read for anyone who loves books!

This is such a great series and Under the Cover of Murder is a solid entry! This is everything readers want from a cozy mystery -- great characters (and this one had a lot!), fun setting (a luxury yacht!), and lots of clues. This was a quick read for me because I needed to know the resolution. I thought I had it all figured out and didn't, which I just love! Well done!
This is the 6th installment in the Beyond the Page Bookstore mystery series. Addie Greyborne runs the Beyond the Page Bookstore in Greyborne Harbor and is the maid of honor for her best friend Serena Chandler. Serena is marrying Zach Ludlow and her step mother Lady Veronica has become the dragon lady according to Serena as she has hijacked the entire wedding to be the way she wants it and the wedding is being held on the family yacht in Greyborne Harbor. As she is getting ready to go and get ready to leave for the yacht Chief of police Marc Chandler asks Addie to come to the police department as he wants to know if she can identify a body that has been found on the beach. The dead man was dressed as if he was an employee on the yacht so Marc wants to know if Addie recognizes him. She does not and promises not to breath a word to Serena as not to spoil her big day. The wedding goes off without a hitch, however, Marc’s ex Lacey crashes the reception and appears to be falling down drunk. Addie and Catherine along with Paige try to run interference with Lacey all night until Serena and Zach leave that night for their honeymoon in London. Addie is disappointed that Simon (Addie’s Dr. boyfriend and coroner) does not stay the night in the beautiful stateroom but he has an autopsy to perform. The next morning Addie comes down for breakfast when it is interrupted by Marc and the police asking questions about who left the boat. It is later learned that there has been another death and all the guests who remained on the yacht must stay on the yacht. Addie of course gets involved in the investigation and Marc is somewhat open to hearing what she has to say. She learns over the course of her sleuthing that many of the family and guests could be guilty of not one but two murders. There is also a mystery of some books that are supposed to be rare but appear to be counterfeit. The question is are the murders and phony books related. Once again Addie along with her co-sleuthers of Paige and Catherine gather lots of clues. This is a good solid mystery and I enjoy all these characters. Looking forward to what comes next in this series.
It's time for Serena and Zach to tie the knot but mother-in-law decides that the venue must be the family yacht moored in the harbor. Cue the set up for a locked room mystery a la Agatha Christie. One of the guests has secrets that must be kept at all costs and killing two people is the plan. Once the yacht becomes a crime scene and Addie was one of the wedding party staying onboard, now told by the police that she must remain onboard...well what else does an amateur sleuth do but gather clues and try to catch the killer? Works for me.
If you have just now discovered this enjoyable cozy series I would advise that you try at least one of the previous books first. There are a lot of characters to keep straight that might slow down your reading pace. I have read the series in order and, to be honest, I do prefer to read any series in order. Having said that, if the book is within your grasp, grasp it tightly, hurry to find a nice comfy spot to sit and devour it. The characters are well developed, the setting is perfect and the mystery is bound to keep the reader guessing to the final reveal. Everything a good cozy should be.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me and advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Addie is the book store owner in Greyborne Harbor who enjoys trying to help solve crimes even though the Police Chief Marc doesn’t care for her to help the police department. Addie is the maid of honor in her good friend Serena and her fiancé Zach’s wedding. After the wedding rehearsal dinner a dead body is found on the beach and the man looks like he was a murder victim. The next day after the wedding ceremony another body is found washed ashore which is Lacy a former friend of the bride Serena, former girlfriend of the police chief Marc and Addie. Lacey had crashed the wedding reception and was drinking a lot and getting into conflicts with different people at the reception.
Now that there is two murders back to back can they be related or not. So Addie with the help of some of her friends decide to help solve the two crimes.
There are plenty of suspects from Zach’s over bearing step-mother. Veronica, Veronica’s son Preston and his wife Annabelle, Veronica’s lawyer Wesley and her personal assistant Donna , the ships security head Felix, the ships head chef, police Detective Ryley, the ships captain and one of the ships officers.
This was an interesting read and I found myself trying to figure out who was responsible for the murders and was surprised at the end as to who was the real culprit .
I voluntarily received a ARC from Netgalley and this review is of my own honest opinion and thoughts.
Addie Greyborne’s best friend Serena Chandler was to be married to Zach Ludlow and the wedding would be held on the luxury super yacht owned by his father and stepmother. Addie, along with a select few, were staying on board overnight after the bride and groom had departed for their honeymoon. But the wicked stepmother had different ideas about the wedding and Serena wasn’t happy.
The following morning Addie discovered a second body had been discovered. The first had been found the day before and Addie, in her role as bookshop owner and highly knowledgeable on first editions and classics, was called to the library on board the yacht. Her expertise had her helping the police in their investigations, while everyone left on board was unable to leave. Someone on the luxury vessel was a killer and that person needed to be found before someone else was murdered…
Under the Cover of Murder is the 6th in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery by Lauren Elliott and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were some far fetched sections (where clues seemed to jump into Addie’s hands without much effort) but other than that, the story flowed well, I didn’t guess the killer – even with plenty of suspects – and I liked the setting of the yacht. Good food, fancy drinks and staff to cater to your every need – a luxury holiday if you take away the killer!! Although I haven’t read any previous books in this series, I didn’t have any trouble following the story. Recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
