Another amazing story by Denise Hunter.
Sophie and Aiden have a past and unresolved feelings between. They haven't seen each other in seven years when he left to pursue a job opportunity. She's been taking care of her twin brother and younger sister, and her mother before she passed away.
Now it's her sister's wedding and Aiden is the best man, and she can't avoid seeing him and talking to him. After the wedding, a hurricane hits and Aiden asks her to stay in the same, since he can't leave.
When Sophie gets injured, Aiden stays to help her with the opening of her new bookshop. As they spend more and more time together, several truths come to light that neither one of them knew about the other. They had to learn to become friends again and trust each other, and be there for the other.
It was fun to see Adam and Molly from the Bluebell Inn series. The small town community and beach setting was also great.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Sophie and Aiden were high school sweethearts. He gets an amazing opportunity to partner a new business in another town and expects Sophie to come with him. But after her mother had fallen ill, Sophie stepped up to care for her and her two siblings. Now her father had abandoned them all and it was impossible for Sophie to leave. Now seven years later, Sophie is free to follow her own dream of owning a bookshop after her younger sister is finally married. The only problem: Aiden is a friend of the groom. Now she's just trying to survive the wedding and reception while avoiding her ex. But trouble comes when a hurricane hits, Aiden's flight is cancelled, and he takes shelter in the very beach house Sophie is staying. Can she hide the feelings she still had for him until the storm passes?
I just can't resist a book about bookshops! A sweet second chance romance story based around the remodeling of Sophie's new bookshop was just perfect. The only downfall was the spoiled and needy siblings taking advantage, so I was glad Sophie finally stood up for herself! I seriously couldn't put this one down.
Thank you to Denise Hunter and HarperCollins for the opportunity to read this sweet beach read! I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I picked up this book when I wanted a sweet romance that I knew would have great characters and a wonderful setting. It did not disappoint! It is a story of hope, healing, moving forward from the past, and setting boundaries. The lead characters are wonderful. And their journey toward each other believable and sweet. Another great book from one of my favorite authors.
I was so excited when the author revealed the cover for this book. It's gorgeous! I'm always interested in a book featuring a bookshop, especially one near the coast. Using the antagonistic forces of the weather is a plot device I enjoy in a novel, because it forces the hero and heroine to work together toward a common objective.
The characters in Bookshop by the Sea are well-developed and interesting to read about. I thought the internal and external conflicts that both the hero and heroine wrestled with were plausible and kept me engaged in the story. Many people struggle with establishing appropriate boundaries, so I appreciated and identified with the heroine's challenges regarding boundaries with her family members.
The romance is a satisfying slow burn, which is something I look for and expect with Denise Hunter's novels. This one did not disappoint. The inspirational message is quite subtle and seems to be on trend with the current shift happening in the Christian fiction market.
I have one minor with this novel: there's a scene early in the book where the hero grabs the heroine by the throat and that made me uncomfortable. I can be a sensitive reader sometimes, though, so perhaps other readers won't have the same reaction.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the complimentary copy. All opinions shared here are my own.
This is a new stand alone novel which was a pleasure to read - I read it within a day as it was the perfect book to chillax with. This book is not just light and fluffy but has themes of trust, abandonment and boundaries which are real, relatable issues.
I liked the seaside cove setting and the small town vibe. I would definitely be interested in seeing more books set here by the author. Had I not got this book in exchange for an honest review, I would definitely pay for it. It is the kind of book I'll be recommending to others.
A fun quick Christian romance. The religious bit is there, not too heavily. Not my thing but was fine. Good characters and story.
I've been looking forward to Bookshop by the Sea, I love bookstores and the oceanside setting in Piper's Cove is just icing on the cake!
Denise Hunter delivers an angsty romance complete with a variety of interesting characters. There's no denying the chemistry between high school sweethearts Aiden and Sophie even after seven years apart. However, they have some serious obstacles to overcome if they're ever to achieve a loving trusting relationship. There are issues of abandonment and worthiness to deal with, but love and forgiveness win the day.
One of my favorite parts of the story was the sense of camaraderie that developed in the beach town and the way everyone pitched in when crisis struck. I really enjoyed that, it was so very heartwarming!
I appreciate Thomas Nelson making a copy of Bookshop by the Sea available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.
Denise Hunter is a women's fiction author we can really relate too. Bookshop by the Sea so realistic and not to be missed.
Sophie is an incredible young woman, when her mother was bedridden her father bailed on the family and took off. Since Sophie is the oldest she feels responsible for not only taking care of her two siblings but being her mother's care giver until her death.
Piper’s Cove is a quaint little beach town in North Carolina where Sophie and her mother made plans to open a bookshop but with her mother's death she wants to carry on her mother's legacy and still open it.
With her siblings raised and her younger sister set to marry she is finally ready to open the shop and do something for herself.
Winds of change come to all of us like it or not and Sophie is reliving the memory of her broken romance with Aiden who not only left town as a teen in Bookshop by the Sea but left Sophie with a broken heart all those years ago.
He wasn't ready for a commitment then how will things go when they see each other at her sister's wedding?
You would think Sophie would be over her thoughts and feelings for Aiden, at least that's what we tell our heart but feelings burrow into our heart from times past and seem to stay deeply entrenched there.
Now that's it's seven years later in Bookshop by the Sea will Sophie give him the time of day and allow Aiden to explain why he did what he did ? What about those pesky feelings that seem to have taken up such a strong resurgence betraying her efforts to stay uncaring and unemotional at his return?
Aiden is a extreme sports enthusiasts so he's always up for the challenge of putting himself out there but he's afraid to love. Will he be able to face the biggest challenge of his life?
Excellent,relatable book! I Love it!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you.

mehh I mean, this is a kind of romance novel for Christians, and I don't count myself among them, so I wish it had been written more clearly.
mehhh insomma, questo dovrebbe forse essere una specie di romanzo d'amore per ferventi credenti, e io non mi annovero tra questi, quindi avrei preferito fosse stato scritto piú chiaramente.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
After her mother was bedridden and her father bailed on the family, Sophie became a second mother to her twin brother, Seth, and younger sister, Jenna.
Sophie sees Aiden Maddox, her high school sweetheart. Who ended up leaving her and to head to Florida
Seeing him again sparks something new in her.
When a crazy hurricane strands Aiden in Piper’s Cove and with the hotels booked to capacity he asks Sophie to put him up until the storm passes. As the two ride out the weather, old feelings rise to the surface!
I lover this heartfelt story of second chances and love! This was written so beautifully.
I just loved the characters and the plot was even better
Quick romance read which was what I needed
Denise Hunter is one of my go-to authors for emotional, well-written Christian fiction books. I really enjoyed this second chance romance.
