Description
Josie presses her hands into the center of the drowned girl’s chest and pumps, counting off compressions. She takes in the girl’s beautiful face, her brown eyes glassy. The memory of a champion swimmer on the podium with her teammates—a red swim cap on, her head thrown back in laughter—a stark contrast to the cold, still body before her. Breathe. Just breathe...

Number 10 in the Josie Quinn series and it's as good as the first. Lisa Regan never fails to create a riveting read with a plot that drives the story forward at a compelling pace. This one goes from one cliff hanger to another with barely time to catch your breath and yet Regan is still able to further develop her regular characters and smoothly introduce new ones. Although I have read all of the books so far, this, like the others, can be read as a stand alone. That said, I would recommend reading them in order if you can as the characters personal relationships are developed incrementally with each installment. 5 stars again for this one and I can't wait for the next.
We all have our series we cannot wait to get back to, those characters and settings that feel like old friends every time you have the pleasure to return to when you pick up a new installment. The Detective Josie Quinn series is exactly that for me. I've been a fan of this detective series ever since I read the first book back in 2018, and I've devoured every single sequel since then. This series is known for its lightning fast and action-packed plots, and I can definitely recommend clearing your schedule as it will be really hard to stop reading once you've read the first chapters. These books are highly addictive and simply exhilarating!
While technically you could read Breathe Your Last as a stand-alone, I would suggest reading the books in order as you will be missing out on significant character background otherwise. And trust me, you will be missing out on hours and hours of detective thriller entertainment in the first place! Breathe Your Last has once again a very interesting plot as well as developments on a personal level for Josie Quinn. It might not be all too credible to have that many criminals and serial killers running around in the small town of Denton, but I'm not complaining as it means more Josie Quinn adventures to enjoy! Things can be said about the credibility in general, but I personally don't mind as I'm always too busy turning those pages and having fun.
We get to see the story unfold both through the eyes of Josie and the killer. The chapters with the killer's POV were particularly interesting, as I always appreciate an opportunity to get a glimpse inside the head of a serial killer. The plot was another interesting one, and you will find yourself on the edge of your seat as the case starts to develop. It definitely won't be easy to guess the identity of the killer early either! You will also find a healthy dose of action and suspense, and I confess at one point towards the ending my heart nearly stopped and I suddenly wanted to throw my kindle at the wall... Trust me, you will know exactly what I'm talking about as soon as you reach that point in the story. I really liked how everything was wrapped up though, and I'm already looking forward to the next one. What a read!
If you enjoy a well written, fast and action-packed detective thriller series that just keeps delivering, you should definitely find the time to schedule a meeting with Josie Quinn. This is without doubt one of my favorite detective series, and Breathe Your Last is another winner!
Another fantastic story from Lisa Regan. In the Josie Quinn and Noah series.. a most unusual storyline, leaves you guessing who is responsible for a series of unusual murders. Leaving to a very surprising end.
Buckle up! Readers are in for a heck of a ride in Lisa Regan's new Josie Quinn novel, Breathe Your Last. Josie is called to investigate the mysterious death of a college student... and the case quickly snowballs as more victims are found doing uncharacteristic activities. Josie is paired with Mettner and Gretchen for much of this investigation as Noah is off doing something "else" (and Josie can't figure out what that could be). With cameos from her sister, mother, and newly found cousin, she's got all she can deal with personally whilst she tries to unravel this case. This book is part of a series, but new readers can jump right in on this book... and then go back and read the rest (believe me, you'll want to). This is a fantastic addition to Ms Regan's series and I hope they keep coming as Josie Quinn is one of my absolutely favorite characters!
4.5 heart stopping stars
I can’t believe this is book #10 in this series! I love the main character – Detective Josie Quinn. She is always in the thick of crime and danger in Denton. This time a series of murders and strange crimes has everyone stumped. Why on earth would the university’s best swimmer drown?
Josie and her team work to solve this crime as others pile up. Other chapters are from the mind of the killer and they are chilling indeed. It becomes a game of cat and mouse and a frantic race to the finish.
Meanwhile, Noah is distant and I really worried about what he was up to in this one. Let me warn you that this one has a dramatic ending. You really got me Lisa Regan! Can’t wait until you have book #11 for us to read!
The book jacket states ~ “An Addictive and nail-biting crime thriller.”.
I regard statements like this as a challenge!! You know when it states hilarious and to me it is a tad humorous.
Trust me in this story author, Lisa Regan delivers. This is #10 in the Josie Quinn series and the first one for me. I wasn’t lost in reading this but it did make me think. Ouch! I sure missed nine great reads!
Story starts when the killer states in the Prologue states that the victim “Got what they deserved”.
Right off the, a victim dies who is a Champion Swimmer ~ drowns.
Soon another victim dies from something he is an expert and hero ~ he is a retired Firefighter who sets fire to his home while babysitting his two granddaughters.
Detective Josie Quinn sets out to find the killer, however some think accidents and question if there is a killer!
We, of course, know there is someone responsible~ but whom?
Story has many twists; which I totally LOVE.
Additionally, I always enjoy the author’s note at the end of the novel. In this case, Lisa Regan entitles hers “A Letter from Lisa”.
She starts with thanks us for reading and then states is you are reading this it means you didn’t throw your e-reader or hardback book across the room.
This make me laugh as I have often threatened to do that with a book but am more careful with my e-reader but certainly considered it!
She also states that she does her best to cut out the boring stuff and bring just drama.
Yep she delivered!
This story earns 5 Stars from me and I take rating seriously and don’t just hand out high reviews.
This did not disappoint and I am looking forward to Josie Quinn #11!!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this early release granted in exchange for an honest professional review. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for December 9, 2020.
Absolutely love this series of books, Lisa Regan does not disappoint in this latest instalment; could not put it down once I had started. Brilliant book, many twists and turns, and a shocker of an ending. Definitely worth reading .
While on the Denton University campus to see her brother. Detective Josie Quinn discovers a body in the campus swimming pool. Those who know her are shocked when it’s revealed that Denton’s star swimmer Nysa Somers is a victim of drowning. There are no obvious signs of foul play and Josie’s chief wants the case closed. However, something about the young woman’s death doesn’t add up, and Josie just can’t let it go. When tragedy strikes again, nobody can deny there is a killer on the loose that Josie and her team need to stop before anyone else becomes a victim.
This book is the tenth Josie Quinn mystery. I started reading these books in the middle of the series, but have enjoyed each of the books I’ve read. This story is mainly told from Josie’s point of view with a few chapters told from the point of view as an unidentified killer who clearly feels justified in taking the lives of the victims. Josie is a complicated character with much tragedy in her personal life. She is trying to make a life with fellow detective Noah Fraley, but there are tensions between them as the case progresses.
This series combines the best of police procedurals and thrillers. The investigation is realistic and described in detail, and the tension builds as the story goes keeping the reader in suspense. No spoilers, but the details about the killing shock the Denton detectives but I’ve seen this method of killing in other books, so I thought someone on the team would have heard of it. That was my least favorite part of the otherwise suspenseful plot. The book is fast-paced and has some truly nail-biting moments toward the end of the book. I was pleased about how the book ends and can’t wait to see what’s in store for Josie in the future.
I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Bookouture. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Detective Josie was on her way to talk to her brother Patrick who works at Denton University when she tumble onto a young woman drowned in the swimming pool as she tries to revive her she realize who the young woman is Nysa a champion swimmer so how did she drown when she can swim. As she and her team investigate a another crime happens a respected firefighter is excuse of setting his house on fire as each crimes seems crazy as the next Josie and her team are trying to find out how these crimes are connected and it’s baffling them because they are dying by the profession that they are good at.
I love that we get to see more layers of Josie soon you think you know her and then she keeps surprising you. This story was easy to follow I wasn’t bored I like that it wasn’t so obvious who the killer was and that you right there with characters as they figure it out.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.
I have just finished Breathe Your Last and I am absolutely lost for words. I don't know how Lisa Regan does it time after time. This book wasn't like anything I have read before, so original and completely heartstopping. Josie Quinn is such an interesting character and her team are coming into their own now. One of my favourite detective series , I'm already looking forward to reading the next book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this amazing book!
Josie calls to meet her brother on campus and in doing so comes across the body of a young girl floating in the swimming pool. How can a prize winning swimmer die by drowning? A few days later a fire engulfs a house and Josie rescues a grandfather and two young girls. How can a respected firefighter be suspected of setting fire to his own house? What is the connection between these cases?
Lisa Regan gives us another tension filled book. Josie and all the gang are back and working hard to catch a strange killer. But is there a killer? How are they killing these people?
I look forward to every new book from Lisa Regan and this one is no exception. The downside is I have to wait a long time for the next one!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and Lisa Regan for granting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Lisa Regan does it again! Wow! Great story. There was one moment where I completely froze in shock.
In each book, you see Josie change and grow as a cop, a person, a friend ,,, What I loved most about this latest Josie Quinn, is you really get to see Josie fight her feelings and her fears. You not only see the change, but you feel it. Great character arc!
Can’t wait for the next one!
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for this eARC.
Wow what a roller coaster of a thrill ride! Absolutely loved this book it had me hooked from page one. It’s such an excellent series and each new book gets better. Did not disappoint at all. Totally deserves five stars.
The premise of this story is fascinating, people are dying by the thing least likely to kill them. A champion swimmer who drowned, a career firefighter who set fire to his own house - it seems completely improbable and immediately drew me in. Everyone on Detective Josie Quinn's team is perplexed, as well, and they don't think they'll be able to crack this one. It doesn't help that the police chief steadfastly refused to consider that there was any foul play to begin with until the coroner provided the undeniable evidence. He pushes for the quickest and easiest conclusion as usual, which makes it even harder for the team to investigate thoroughly to uncover what's really happening.
When one of their own becomes dangerously close to becoming the latest victim, the team go all out to find the connection and what they discover could put their entire town unknowingly at risk. This leads Josie to fear for her close family members, and when she desperately needs her boyfriend Noah to comfort her, he's never around. She knows they are deep in an investigation but she can't believe how often he fails to communicate or how vague he seems when he does. Is solving this case going to cost Josie her relationship? How many more innocent people will fall victim to the evil terrorizing her town? You'll just have to read to find out and the exciting conclusion will make you so glad you did!
Lisa Regan continues to enthrall readers with her unique and intriguing storyline in book ten of the Josie Quinn series. Regan offers the book as a stand-alone but also commits herself to veteran fans by offering captivating development in character arcs. As Josie and her team race against time to find the answers behind a string of mysterious deaths, readers are offered a purview into the mind of the antagonist and what a ride that is! Great read.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the ARC of #BreatheYourLast which was read and reviewed voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"The body of a young girl lying face down in a swimming pool—white tennis shoes still on her feet, chestnut hair fanned out like a halo—is the last thing Detective Josie Quinn expects to find on an early morning visit to see her brother before class at Denton University. But when she recognizes the girl’s face as she drags her limp body from the water, there’s only one question racing through Josie’s mind: how does a champion swimmer accidentally drown?"
A totally gripping crime thriller, a captivating story that twisted and turned. I really couldn't put it down. Highly recommend reading it.
This is the 10th book starring Detective Josie Quinn and it was a great read.
Josie turns up to see her Younger brother at the University and they discover Nysa, a student, drowned in the pool. Josie immediately dives in and tries CPR but with no luck. The question of how the star swimmer managed to drown seems unanswerable but Josie is trying to get to the bottom of it. As the case develops her partner seems to always be on the missing list and more discoveries lead to more questions.
The story was fantastic but I did miss the fact that Trinity only makes a passing visit in the book so hope she back for book eleven!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
#BreatheYourLast #NetGalley
Breathe Your Last by Lisa Regan. Crazy, twisty, thoroughly engaging thriller .Even when you think you know who the killer is and their motive, Ms Regan pulls the rug out from under you. Getting to know more about the team members is an added bonus. The Josie Quinn series keeps getting better and better.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
So here we are once more in book ten of the wonderful Detective Josie Quinn series and as with every other book in the series this lives up to all expectations it a fabulous read. Josie once more is plunged into an intriguing case of young championship swimmer who appears to have inexplicably drowned but Josie is not convinced there are many things that just don’t add up and so from then on we are plunged headlong into a compulsive read that I flew through.
Well Lisa Regan sure knows how to write a compelling story and the character of Josie Quinn is one that you can warm to and care about as are many other characters that also reappear in this instalment.
Having read all the books in the series I have loved every one of them and am always thrilled when a new book is out as I always know that I’m in for a real treat and I can honestly say that the books just get better and better so long may the series continue please and many many thanks to Lisa for another winner!
My thanks also to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A light easy to read mystery, a string of mysterious deaths or almost death, a strong heroine and an interesting plotline, i didn't guess the villain until fairly into the book. I tend to not like books that have some of the chapters from the killer's perspective, unless they are very very well done, very psychologically advanced, only one author who does it well in my mind. so this was pretty good, but forgetable
