I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This book had some really interesting twists involved that I had no clue were about to happen. As true with this series, there seems to always be a twist. Sometimes, I can guess it and other times I cannot. With this series, there is a twist I guess and a twist I'm never able to guess.
I knew there was going to be a twist involving one character, but I did not know the extent of that twist. I think the way Holly Jackson writes this series is really interesting where I can figure out who may be involved, but I can't quite figure out to what degree. I find Holly Jackson has found a pretty decent formula for her mysteries and utilizes them in both this book and the previous installment. I also find it interesting and more realistic when her characters have flaws based on their past experiences. Pip has been through a lot and she has visible trauma from it. I think that is what makes this book series stand out from other YA mystery books.
I highly recommend continuing the series. It takes a little bit to get into the story, but it is a fast read and keeps giving you a lot of information without giving you the full story.
I really liked this book and how she got over someone. I enjoyed the romance and the friendships. I liked she came to enjoy her family. I liked that she was able to get over a boy and move on with her life. Great story.
The series’ second book, Good Girl, Bad Blood, features Pip making a podcast of the investigation depicted in A Good Girl’s Guide. Both books have the casual, come-along-for-the-ride feel of some of my favorite investigative podcasts. The audiobooks — full-cast productions — are a particular treat.
The author pays particular attention to the emotional cost of conducting an investigation and producing a true-crime property. She highlights the damage Pip and the victims’ families and friends suffer as old wounds are reopened, raising questions about ethics many true-crime fans struggle with.
With both A Good Girl’s Guide and Good Girl, Bad Blood, I intended to read a chapter or two. Instead, I stayed up way too late and plowed through them in a single sitting. For adult fans looking for a quick, propulsive mystery, it’s hard to go wrong with Jackson’s books. — Elizabeth Held
One of the best mystery writers on the market today and surprise she writes young adult. Looking forward to the third installment.
Personally I didn't like the first book and this series so I thought maybe book two would be better or at least more enjoyable than the first and sadly that was not the cast. Once again I got sucked into another mystery that I predicted every aspect of from the very beginng leaving me with no shock factor.
Great sequel for any fans of YA mysteries and Holly Jackson’s Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Definitely worth the read!
Yes Yes Yes. 100x yes. This book is brilliant. This series is brilliant. This is easily one of my favorite reads of the year. I cannot wait to see what else Jackson does.
I liked the mystery in this one just as much as the first book, and the characters were just as compelling and interesting, but there was one aspect I felt was rushed: the child Brunswick plot. This will mean nothing unless you've read it, but trust me when I say it comes out of nowhere and is an awfully tidy bow. Even with that little quibble, these are still some of the best and most unpredictable mysteries for teens I've ever read.
Pip has vowed to never investigate another mystery until her friend’s brother ends up missing. Connor and his mom, Joanne, convince Pip that she’s their only hope to find Jamie. The more she investigates, the more mysteries and questions are uncovered. Ravi is all in, but once again Pip is lying to her parents so they don’t get upset about her over-involvement in the investigation. This is a twisty mystery that kept me guessing til the end! I'm completely looking forward to the third book of this series!
Note: I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'll probably never use this title in the classroom only because it's a sequel, and it is pretty hard to teach a series to a high school English class. Regardless, I will continue to suggest it (I even loaned the first book in the series to two of my students last year). I love Pip and her tenacity and feel like she is just such a fun protagonist, and I think for students the amateur element makes it all the more interesting. I will say, this book didn't start quite as strongly for me as the first book did, but I definitely liked it enough that I am excited to read book three!
I wasn't sure this book would be as good as the original one, but it definitely is! More perfect plot twists. Same great characters! Perfect read for those looking for a Thriller/Mystery!
Jackson knows how to write a story! I absolutely loved A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, so to say I was excited for the sequel would be an understatement. While parts of Good Girl, Bad Blood seemed to drag, overall it was a super fun read. I loved that I never knew what was coming next and that none of the twists were predictable. I can’t wait for book three!
I really loved the first book in the series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and had pretty high hopes for this sequel.
I’m happy to say I really enjoyed Good Girl, Bad Blood!
It takes place a few months after the events of the previous book. We follow along as Pip investigates the disappearance of a friend’s family member. Things get convoluted and twisted, but it was so much fun.
I will say the tone of this book was pretty different from the first, it was a lot more serious. Pip has to deal with the fallout from events that took place in the previous book. There’s some trauma and guilt she’s working through, as well as bullying/harassment.
But all in all, this was a very entertaining story and I’m so excited for the final installment!
Pip is at again in Holly Jackson’s “Good Girl, Bad Blood,” the sequel to “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.” The novel begins with Pip & Ravi’s podcast about the murder and subsequent trial of one of the key players, Max Hastings. Just as their podcast is taking off, Fairview is rocked again by another disappearance, but this time it is her friend Connor’s older brother, Jamie. The police won’t help so Pip & Ravi take on the quest to find Jamie. Soon there is a series of mysterious events and many complications for Pip that test her endurance and even her mental health.
This is a good sequel to “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”, which develops Pip as a character. The audience see her doubts, her frustrations, and fears. At times the plot seems to drag out but there is a good twist at the end as well as a clear set up for a third book. In order to enjoy the book, readers need to be familiar with the first book in the series because of recurring characters as well as cameos by minor characters from the first book. As a high school English teacher, I would recommend this novel to teens who enjoy murder mysteries, suspense, or books they are in a series.
I loved the first book in this series, and the sequel did not disappoint! Pip is such a well-developed character, and I appreciated the way the author framed her working through her trauma from solving the mystery from the first book. I thought that was poignant and compelling, and a little unusual for a YA mystery. I'm really looking forward to the third book in the series!
Holly Jackson reunites us with Pippa Fitz-Amobi after the action of <I>A Good Girl's Guide to Murder</I>. While she and Ravi are awaiting the conclusion of a trial that began in book one of the series, Pip is trying really hard to stay away from investigating anything new. Then Jamie Reynolds goes missing and his family reaches out to Pip for help.
Pip, Ravi, and Jamie's little brother Connor begin digging into the disappearance. But unlike last time, the world is following along with their investigation...and not everyone agrees with Pip. And not everyone wants Jamie to be found. Can they find Jamie before it's too late?
I really enjoyed AGGGTM and was really looking forward to this book. I felt like this was a fine second entry into Pip's story, but I also felt like AGGGTM did a good job of wrapping up the story and wasn't sure that a sequel/another story featuring the same characters was really necessary. I struggled to get into the book at first and as I read, I felt that the plot of the story became more and more far-fetched and required a greater suspension of disbelief than the first story did and the resolution to the big mystery required a lot of hand-waving.
The story was fine and I feel like young adults who enjoy mysteries, crime podcasts, and who enjoyed the first book will probably eat this story up.
Great follow-up. I enjoyed the first book but I think I liked this one even more! The characters development was spot on.
YA Mystery fiction. This novel is the sequel to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. Pip put herself and her family in harms way the last time she put her sleuthing skills to work. Who could have known that she would be needed to solve another suspicious occurrence...and so soon? But when one of her friends goes missing and the police refuse to involve themselves (after all... he's an adult and may just be away for the moment), she reaches out to her fan base once again to help find him--hopefully, before it's too late. Overall, the author tells this story in an interesting and creative way.
Once again Holly Jackson has left me speechless. Never would I have guessed that ending and how everything worked out. I thought the neighbor was shady but never saw the connection with the serial killer in there. <insert shocked emoji> I can't wait for the continuation of this story.
Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson is the sequel to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and picks up RIGHT after the first book, even continuing the trials from the first book’s case; however, this novel brings us another mystery that Pip gets pulled into and it is life or death.
