Maybe the test is so long thinking that this illustrated book was made it for kids, but the information on its pages is so interesting. I enjoy reading it.
This book is perfect for kids who want to know more about animals. With eye-catchy pictures and illustrations, this book highlights the magical powers of animals and plants in nature.
A few animals that have magical qualities are chameleons that can change colors as per their surroundings, a hummingbird that can fly backward, an elephant that can hear thunder in a different country, and many more. This book will make your child interested in the world around him or her.
Thank you to @netgalley and @clavispublishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Clovis Publishing for this sleek peek into Magical Plants and Animals. I would have loved to seen the whole book.
I loved the use of real images in this book. It is definitely an educational book that shows you all the plants and animals that do things that seem magical. It seems to be geared to young elementary children. I do wish it flowed a little better. It was a bit choppy with the wording and sentence structures.
Overall, I enjoyed this and think it may interest young ones with the magic element of this book. Check this out or add it to your library if you are a parent, teach, or librarian of elementary age students. Although, older children may enjoy this as well.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. I really liked the cover and was drawn to the title. So, what did I think initially? I thought it would be a fantasy book, and well, I was right, but it is also educational. The reader will learn about animals, plants, and other related scientific matters. The illustration is beautiful. The book says it is good for "little biologists aged 5 and up" which I think is totally cute. It's a great primer for the subject and good idea for a gift for your young reader who is interested in this area.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Fabulous cover art.
Great illustrations.
Educational but fun book overall.
I'll definitely be looking out for other work by this author.
This gorgeous book is a great introduction to the true magic of the natural world. Full of fascinating facts, and a mix of photography and doodle art that shepherd the reader through a variety of unique critters. Perfect for any budding naturalist's bookshelf, or for classroom use.
This book isn't a storybook for children and more an educational book aiming to highlight the magic of the natural world. It explores natural phenomenon such as how Basilisk lizards walk on water and how iguanas camouflage themselves. The pictures are a mix of actual photographs and "hand-drawn doodles." It's quite wordy, and some of the vocabulary is more complex than you'd expect, so I think it would work beautifully for slightly older children (6-10) but could also work for younger children when you're reading to them.
All in all, I think it's a book that feeds the natural curiosity of children and acts as a gateway to science. It makes science - biological science in this case - and makes it accessible.
I liked it and I'd definitely buy it for my son.
Have you ever seen a real magician? A magician who can make himself invisible, change his shape or walk on water?
This awe and wonder picture book for kids 5 and up will introduce them to the wonders of nature all around them. Each chapter introduces a magical trick that several animals may do differently. Some animals can appear to be invisible. How is this possible and what makes them so special. How animals see and hear are different and amazing as well.
This book will astound and amaze your kiddos. It makes a great gift to those that love animals and love to learn.
A special thank you to Clavis Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review
HA! I loved this book- and I'm an adult! Kids are going to drawn right in with the word Magic. This book will make a fine addition to a science collection, class, kids interested (or they will be) in critters that hide in plain sight! Photos are really nice, too. Great title Mack van Gageldonk! It grabbed my attention, I don't see why it shouldn't grab a kids.
This is a fantastic book which shows different animals and plants which appear to be magical. For example, some can make themselves invisible, change colour and shape, light up, make fireworks, be a doctor, walk on water, poison others, stun others, become silent, grow very old, see in the dark, see heat, see ultraviolet light, have exceptional hearing, go through metamorphosis, walk upside down or fly in all different directions. The graphics in the book are outstanding.
I loved this book very much and I highly recommend it. It is a perfect book for an educational establishment.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It’s a good informational children’s book that makes learning facts about nature fun. The images are captivating and appropriate for the intended age group; however, I found the story to be a bit wordy at times and felt like the different sections could’ve been connected better. Overall, it’s a cute book to read to your kids and may be a useful educational resource.
This book presents fact with the flair of magic and imagination. Children and adults alike will be excited to learn of all the everyday magic going on around them! The Illustrations, though eclectic, are sure to ignite understanding of our habitat. At times the facts are wordy and run-on, but overall this a great non-fiction for all ages!
A bit wordy, but I'll forgive it as a solid piece of nonfiction about the wonders of the natural world.
Enchanting children's book about the magic of nature. I even learned something and I consider myself to have above average knowledge of flora and fauna. I didn't realize that this was originally written in Dutch and would be interested in comparing the two.
This book was very educational while remaining easy to read for younger audiences! The facts were interesting, and the book wasn't filled with extra pieces of information that could lead your mind to wander. The only thing that could have been better is if all like things were paired together. They are featured based on their skills/abilities, but I think keeping all plant-life together, animal-life together, etc. would make it feel less choppy!
Wow! Really. I learned a lot from this book and it made me appreciate our fellow earthlings even more than I already did.
I did find it disturbing that a book that is supposed to elicit reverence for non-human animals and plants would deem the king cobra special because he is exploited for his venom to make "medicine". Would be nice to see that part removed because it did take away from the joy I was experiencing while reading this book. Other animals are not here for humans to use - they exist for their own very unique reasons - which I thought the rest of the book did a great job of focusing on. I hold non-humans in such high esteem, I need to take away a star because that section left such a bad impression.
Thank you to Mack van Gageldonk, #Clavis Publishing, and #NetGallery for an ARC of Wow! I Can Do Magic. Magical Plants and Animals in return for an honest review. Review will be posted on NetGallery and Goodreads (goodreads.com/radicalrachelreads).
This book is fabulous! It's the perfect book for little learners, full of awesome facts, but not overwhelming and full of great pictures to go along with it. I will definitely be adding this to my little one's library for the future. I definitely recommend this one!
This is a lovely and educational children's book that teaches about the "magical" things that different kinds of animals can do, such as make light, live for hundreds of years, "put a spell on you" and seem invisible. In each case, we are introduced to the concept first with a large picture with a few animals hidden in it who are doing the "magic" and cursive text next to them. Then we read about one animal that does this feat particularly well and then a few others who also do. The illustrations combine high quality photographs and whimsical doodles, and the text is the perfect balance of lots of information without boring young kids. A great success.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I really liked the bright illustrations that will draw the attention of readers. The book had the animals divided into different passages, which were easy to understand. Some of the passages were long so it may be difficult for the younger readers of the target age (5 to 7 year old readers) to stay focused. Overall, I thought the book was very informative and enjoyed reading it.
This absolutely stunning book teaches young readers about the magic of nature. There's a lot of information here, so it's a great book to grow with kids and get them excited about the environment and science.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the advance copy.
