What a sweet and charming book! The writing pulled me right in, the cinnamon roll hero is adorable, and the heroine's ghost bestie is a delight. A quick, fun read which I ended up choosing for my bookstore's romance subscription box.
"The Kindred Spirits Supper Club" by Amy E. Reichert, was a sweet romantic novel of Sabrina and Ray, finding their way, while developing a beautiful connection. Overcoming obstacles from the past, small town obligations and heartbreaks, as well as communicating with ghosts, this book was enjoyable. Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for the copy for review, all opinions are my own.
Thank you for the opportunity to read The Kindred Spirits Supper Club. While I like reading lighter books from time to time, I just couldn't get into this one. I might pick it up at another time but for now, I'm not able to finish it.
"The Kindred Spirits Supper Club" is a charming romance about the decidedly weird Sabrina Monroe. Awkward and suffering from an anxiety disorder, she has gone back home to Wisconsin after losing her job. But the women in her family share an even stranger condition — they can talk to the dead. Bullied in school for acting strange when her ability manifested itself, she has been trying to keep it a secret ever since.
So when she meets Ray Jasper, the new local restaurateur, at a water park she is visiting with her nieces and nephew, she is tongue-tied. She is also desperately trying to ignore the remarks made by Molly, who is ogling the swim-suited man. Luckily Ray can’t see or hear Molly since she is a ghost. Molly has been around for decades because the Monroe women have not been able to help her move on, as they have helped countless others of the recently deceased.
Ray is friendly and unabashedly interested in her. But Sabrina wants to keep her distance. She plans on eventually moving back to Washington. In the meantime, she is working a soul-crushing job under the woman who made her high school days miserable and still hates her.
When things come to a head between Sabrina and her nemesis and she is fired, Ray offers her a job helping him organize the grand gala at his restaurant. He hopes that as the two of them work together, their relationship will deepen.
However, Sabrina knows that if he ever finds out that she sees ghosts, he will think her crazy and will reject her, just as others have done.
Funny and sweet, "Kindred Spirits" shows how Sabrina grows more confident with the love Ray provides. You cheer as she stands up to the town’s mean girl. And while the mystery involving Molly can be seen a mile away, her story is still touching, and Sabrina and Ray work together to find the answers.
Talking to ghosts? Foodie fun? Midwestern vibe? I am sold on this lighter fare for a poolside or beach day read. My favorite elements of Reichert's past books are present in the Supper Club novel too. Food appreciation and pairings are a staple of her fiction and this book is no exception. She delivers great menus and you'll find them simply delicious. She also makes a romance novel the side gig of her stories, which I appreciate because I find them so much more substantial than others in this genre. The love story is adorable! Lastly, she has a gift for making me want to travel to Wisconsin, to experience regional cuisine, and to learn more about the culture of a place (in this case, the state’s supper club scene). Another great read from Reichert! Pack a picnic and enjoy outdoors this summer.
My favorite genres to listen to at work are thrillers and romcoms, and I save the heavier reads for a physical book.

The Kindred Spirits Supper Club popped up as available on Libby and I snagged it immediately knowing it would be perfect for this work week. I wasn’t wrong except that it left my hungry for all of the Wisconsin cheese.
Toss this in your beach or pool bag because it’s cute summer reading.
Amy E. Reichert is one of my favorite authors and this book just solidifies that for me. The story of two people who are starting over in life again was filled with so many great moments. I especially liked that the author threw in an underlying supernatural ghost story too. I wasn't sure how I'd like that as I normally don't read books with ghosts in them, but Molly and the other ghosts story lines were terrific.
I liked how the romance between Sabrina and Ray processed. These are two people who had some hurdles in life to overcome before they could be happy together. How they get their happy ending is a fun read that readers of rom-coms will enjoy.
4.5/5
If you are looking for romcom perfection with a dash of ghosts, then look no further than The Kindred Spirits Supper Club by Amy E. Reichert. This was the perfect summer/beach read and I loved the inclusion of ghosts in a non-creepy way. The story is told mostly from Sabrina and Ray's viewpoints with a little bit of Molly mixed in and I loved that Reichert decided to write it this way. I loved all three of them as well as many other characters in the novel, and even though you have to have your antagonists of the story, overall the majority of characters are very loveable. There is also a bunch of humor mixed in, and I can't even tell you how many times I laughed out loud. I also loved the setting of Wisconsin thanks to having been there many times and my husband having family there; nothing like those cheese curds and Brandy Old-Fashioneds!
I started by reading my eBook but decided to switch over to audio, and I'm happy I did because it was a delight to listen to. The narrator is Tavia Gilbert, and I didn't even mind that there wasn't a male narrator for Ray's POV. I thought Gilbert did a wonderful job with the voices and she really brought The Kindred Spirits Supper Club to life for me. I've listened to her narrate quite a few books now, and she never disappoints! Shockingly this is the first book I have read by Reichert even though her books have been recommended to me many times by friends, plus I probably own a couple. I can say with confidence that she became an autobuy author for me with this book, and I can't wait to read more from her! PS: there is also a recipe for Wisconsin Brandy Old-Fashioneds in the back of the book. You're welcome.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
As a lifelong foodie, Reichert's books ALWAYS resonate with me. Always. Toss in some ghosty chatter and we have an even bigger winner!
Reichert's writing style always pulls me in, literally from page one, she never disappoints and knocked this one out of the park as well.
I couldn’t get into this book- I definitely think the ghost aspect was a big part of it for me. I didn’t realize this book had ghosts, so it wasn’t for me. I could see other enjoying this
I was so excited to receive this book and I was not disappointed! It was such a unique story. I actually really resonated with Sabrina and found myself rooting for her from the beginning. I highly recommend this one!
This one was such a quite romance contemporary book. The characters are well crafted and are so raw. The writing style is remain too. I had a good time reading it.
This is a fun romance with quirky characters. The main characters were beautifully written. And if you love ghosts there is one here too. I’m not usually a fan of stories with ghosts etc but this was so well done it won me over. This was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.
A quirky romance, The Kindred Spirits Supper Club definitely manages to be unique with a main character who can see ghosts and helps people with their unfinished business so they can proceed to the afterlife. For me, that was the most interesting and intriguing part of the book.
The romance between Sabrina and Ray felt a little stilted. The character development was there in the beginning, but failed to carry through the rest of the book. The regional aspects were fun and have something cute and unique to the story.
Oh this review is hard for me to write because I was so excited to read this book. The premise is so unique and I felt like it could be my bridge over into Paranormal Romances but it was not :(
For me, the chemistry felt SO flat and forced between Sabrina and Ray. While it seemed to be insta-love at the meet cute for Ray, Sabrina felt awkward and like she was attracted to Ray but she didn’t actually like him. At the same time, I felt like the plot was moving incredibly slowly, yet there was so many different elements to the plot. Almost too many...
I definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a light, closed door romance and ghosts are your thing! I adored Ray and Sabrina separately but didn’t love them together.
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
The cover of The Kindred Spirits Supper Club really sold me on this book. Plus, I liked the title.
What I Liked:
The cover is SO cute! It just gave me a good feeling.
The meet-cute moment beginning with Ray and Sabrina. I also liked how Ray really seemed to get Sabrina. To understand her in a way that many did not.
Molly. I can take or leave ghosts in stories mostly, but Molly was a hoot and I loved her.
Bottom line: A cute story with lots of charm, characters that you could care about and an ending that really works- The Kindred Spirits Supper Club worked for me on many levels.

Sabrina Monroe is trying to rebuild her life. She lost her last job and she had to go back home to her parents. She has found a job locally but the mean girl from her high school is now her boss and she is not any nicer than when she was back in school.
Sabrina can't wait to leave Wisconsin Dells behind. She had a tough childhood due to a very singular situation. She can see dead people!! Moreover, the dead people seek her to have their last will accomplished before they "puff" out. Her romantic life is nonexistent since sharing her real self and what she and her mother can do, has never gone well for her. Then she meets Ray.
Ray is the new owner of a restaurant. He was a very successful real estate agent with his family business but after visiting his uncle in Dells, he decided that the small-town life fits him just well. Ray keeps on bumping into Sabrina and believes there is a reason for this and the connection he feels with her.
I enjoyed this romance. The supernatural aspect made it more enjoyable since I absolutely loved Molly.
I had some issues with Sabrina avoiding her responsibility with the gift she was given. Of course, she saw it more like a curse. She also pushed Ray away too many times which annoyed me. On the other hand, Ray was really sweet and supportive.

From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint. I am obsessed with the cover to! The feel of the whole book is just my favorite.
My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A romantic comedy with heart, wit, and hint of the supernatural. This story will make you fall in love with Sabrina and Ray as they uncover family secrets and discover how finding the right person can make all the difference.
THE KINDRED SPIRITS CLUB is a gem of a book exploring one woman’s discovery into who she is. Reichert’s signature mix of honest and relatable characters, humor, and yummy food delighted me from beginning to end. There was not one moment spent in these pages that didn’t pull me in further to Sabrina’s world.
What was so wonderful about this story was the combination of the supernatural with a lighter contemporary romance. By incorporating Sabrina and her family’s gift, Reichert was able to infuse moments with the otherworldly, but not in a dark or eerie way. In fact, Molly, the Monroe family’s ghostly friend, stole every scene she was in for me. She was the comic relief as well as a way for the author to give a much-needed dose of truth to our leading lady. Molly’s comments and pushes in certain directions helped Sabrina develop as a character and eventually make the hard decisions she needs to make in terms of her life, career, and heart. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how swoon-worthy Ray is in this book. He is the gorgeous, kind, and thoughtful man every romance lover wants to be their book boyfriend. He acts as a support to Sabrina whether she wants it or not.
Honestly, from the quirky characters to the fast-paced prose, THE KINDRED SPIRITS CLUB reminded me just how much I love reading Reichert’s books. There is an eloquence to the writing that is only made better by the candid emotions and encounters the people we meet have to deal with.
This book was sweet and adorable.
It took me a little to get into the story and it was a little confusing at the beginning but after some pages I fell in love with the story.
I was surprised to find this was a romance with a paranormal aspect, however, I found that very enjoyable and I liked the characters so much.
Thank you @NetGalley and @prhinternational for the free ebook.
