I'm very excited for this book to come out. There are so many elements about it that will have people talking - because it's about the publishing industry, because of its social commentary, because of the ending, because it's a thriller. The writing is compelling and the plot will have you muttering wtf constantly. I'm keen to read reviews by own-voices readers, as I think there will be things I, as a white woman, might not have pick up on or understand the nuance of fully. All in all, this is going to be a book everyone is talking about, and I'm super excited for the adaptation.

Such an original storyline and a book that will definitely resonate with so many people. I found that it took a bit longer than I expected to get into a certain element of the book but overall I was intrigued most of the way through. This will be an interesting discussion starter on so many topics involving race and identity and it's even more of a conversation driver because of the unique (and other very relatable) way these very real issues are exposed in this book.

Heard lots of good things about this book and thought it would be more of a satirical look at how racist publishing is. Instead, I am left with the message that in order to get ahead, Black people, especially Black women, must betray themselves and their community and must not trust each other. I suppose that is the psychological horror aspect of the book, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Wow. This book is so unique, so unlike anything else I've ever read, and I think it's going to get a lot of people talking. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about the big twist (and I am looking forward to reading reviews from Black women) but the writing was sharp, and enthralling, and incredibly unnerving. I stayed up until 3 a.m. to finishi this one, because I just couldn't put it down. And the final line? OOF. Let's just say, the comparisons to GET OUT are apt. A super promising debut, and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Reading this now. It's so wise and funny and it opens up a whole world. A talented new author who deserves every accolade she is surely going to get.

Really clever and entertaining. If movie rights haven't been optioned already, I'm sure they will be very, very soon. This book manages to dig deep without taking itself too seriously. The description of "Get Out meets The Devil Wears Prada" is accurate, although it's much darker/creepier than the latter.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Wowwww this was so good and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It kinda felt like a mix between Get Out and Stepford Wives. Really well-done - just when I thought the book was going one way, it did something completely unexpected.
