This is one of those books that fell flat for me. I dropped everything to read this one after a couple of my friends said it was great, this is probably why I was expecting something very entertaining, but it was in fact so boring. I definitely don't think it should be classified as a Thriller it's more of a dull women's fiction.
I love the cover and the story in this book, but I felt that the writing could use some work. The characters need more detail.
So good! Started recommending to my reading finished before the book was even complete! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance ecopy of The Last Thing He Told Me.
Ok, if you're looking for a good book for discussion, pick this one up. I thought this was pretty interesting. It is something I wasn't expecting from Laura Dave; however, it was a really good mystery. It starts with a bang! No build up, just bam! There is the mystery. The story takes off and most of the background and story-building is done via flashbacks. There were lots of things going on all at once but it really helped amp up the drama and kept me turning pages. I was so engaged throughout the story's quick-changing twists and turns. I loved it! This would make a really good summer read.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. This is a quick read, a great book for summer!! A thriller that I found myself having a hard time putting down. Definitely recommend!!
This book was a quick read for me. It wasn’t my favorite book, but it wasn’t my least favorite either. I wish that the ending was a little better. I don’t like that he was still “on the run.”
I'm not quite sure ... enjoyed it as I read it for the most part but something about the ending feels unsatisfying. Inevitable perhaps - but superficial. Overall entertaining but missing something deeper.
Super short verison: The Last Thing He Told Me feels refreshing and unusual these days: a novel of domestic suspense about an enviably functional, loving and still relatable family. The extraordinary circumstances they’re thrust into, however, severely test their faith and change them forever. As a result, Dave pulls off something that feels at once both new and familiar: a novel of domestic suspense that unnerves then reassures— to some extent. This is the antithesis of the way novels like Gone Girl or My Lovely Wife are constructed: the surface is ugly, the situation disturbing, but almost everyone involved is basically good underneath it all.

Amazing, addictive, smart, with a great mystery. The intrigue is perfectly balanced with the complex emotional predicaments for a husband and father on the run, a newish wife and her surly teenage step-daughter. It's a read that requires the reader to set aside the time to just read it and do nothing else. There's good reason why the book was optioned for a movie before it was even released.
I was granted a free copy of the text by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Laura Dave creates a world in her writing that the reader wants to be a part of, even though bad things happen to the characters within. A good thriller and mystery, but a bit more intrigue would have made for a book that I was not able to put down.
I devoured this heart pounding novel within 24 hours. It was the type of book that gnaws at you until you figure out wtf is going on. I loved everything about it, so thanks to Reese Witherspoon and netgalley for putting it in my radar. It was fantastic!
This book was so good! I read it all in one day - stayed up until 1 am because I didn't want to put it down. The twists and turns keep you guessing as clues come out during the chapters that move between now and the past. Definitely a must-read for this summer.
Gorgeous writing. Likeable and realistic characters. I was surprised by how much I liked this book and read it in one sitting.
I can’t really pin point why but this book had my hooked from the first few pages. I loved the flash back chapters.
This was a satisfying read. I was initially Intrigued by the premise and the setting. It turned out that the main character, Hannah was my favorite part. She was strong, independent and a fierce protector of her step daughter. Another strength was the relationship. The author told us the story of Hannah and Owen through flashbacks and I found it compelling. I also enjoyed the way Hannah and Bailey’s relationship evolved as they worked together to solve the mystery of Owens disappearance. The resolution was a bit of a let down but I enjoyed the story all in all.
Hannah's worst nightmare begins when her husband disappears without a trace leaving behind a note that says. "Protect her." Owen means that Hannah must take care of his 16-year old daughter, Bailey. Bailey's mom passed away long ago. Owen and Hannah have only been married a year, but Bailey still has not accepted her as a stepmother. Hannah and Bailey must work together to discover what really happened to Owen and who he truly was. Along the way they learn a lot about the past, which involves some dramatic twists. Is Owen still alive? Will he return to the family? Will Hannah and Bailey ever find out why he left? Is anyone really safe?
This is a great book. Definitely recommended.
I gave this one a try but ultimately it was a DNF. There are so many domestic thrillers on the market now, and with so many good books to read, I've become fairly ruthless in DNFing ones that don't grab me right away.
This book hooked me in from the very beginning! I am so thankful I got the chance to review this book. The premise of the book was very intriguing and it kept my attention the entire time, which doesn't often happen with thrillers. I also like that this wasn't based on murder for the thriller component. The character development was great and the small flashbacks really helped to paint the whole picture for the reader. Great book!
With a little of a slow start, this book hooked me! I found myself entangled in Owen and Hannah's life and enjoyed every little twist and turn.
A wonderful read! Fast and thrilling, yet with great character development, you won’t want to put this down!!
