Jessica Davis has zero regrets when it comes to having her daughter Juno, even though it meant being a single mom before she was out of college. With a great support system that includes the grandparents who raised her and her best friend Fizzy, the last seven years have been tough but manageable. Jessica is constantly working as a freelance statistician to make ends meet and ensure Juno feels the love and support she never had from her mother. However, as time keeps trudging forward, Jess finds herself longing for a little love and companionship herself. When Jessica and Fizzy find out the stuck-up man known only to them as "Americano" from his visits to the coffee shop they work from is one of the founders of a new DNA-based matchmaking company, Fizzy wriggles them an invite to visit the headquarters. There Jessica's first impression of Dr. River Peña (Americano) as a stubborn and irritating man is reinforced. However, after taking the DNA test, Jessica and River are matched at an unheard of level as a "Diamond Match." The story is almost too good to be true for the company that's about to go public, but can they talk Jessica into taking a chance on love? With skepticism on both sides Jessica and River agree to a trial dating period...for the sake of science. At least one of them is sure the results of that test are bound to be wrong.

An absolute delight to read. I love the complexity of Jessica's life as a single mom and the multitude of relationships we get to see in action from grandparents, daughter, absent mom, and best friend to romantic partner. Christina Lauren did a phenomenal job showing the depth and value of all of these relationship as the romance between Jessica and River builds. Jessica's daughter Juno, as well as her best friend Fizzy, provide some excellent humor throughout the novel that had me laughing out loud at times. There was also a lot more depth to River's character that I originally anticipated and I really enjoyed the layers that were presented in his backstory. Will definitely be recommending to fans of contemporary romances with a enemies to lovers theme (enemies may be a strong would, but these two do not start off on a good note!).

I've really come to look forward to Christina Lauren's books. She creates characters that have relatable qualities and lives. Jess is a single mom, stretched to far, trying to do everything and also lonely but not willing to admit it to herself or her best friend. When she decides to try GenerAlly when meeting its super hot creator she never expects her whole life to turn upside down. This book is the perfect beach read!!

My heart has been a bit heavy lately so I knew I needed a sweet lil rom-com to lighten the load and this latest from Lauren did not disappoint. My beef with rom-coms is usually the sexism in them, but not with this author! She creates a strong female lead, single mom Jess, a brilliant statistician who runs her own business. Jess meets Dr. River Pena (okay, his name is soooo cheesy!) who has created a new matchmaker app using DNA to find your 'soulmate.' (Okay, the whole soulmate term is also a lil cheesy for me but I rolled with it!). Of course, Jess and River 'match' and all kinds of romance, problems, and issues ensue. Fun escapist romance:)

I can never get enough Christina Lauren and The Soulmate Equation is just one more reason why. This book was just stunning. I wanted to hurry up and finish it, but at the same time, savor each word. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is a story about some technology that matches you up with your "soulmate" based off of your DNA. We follow a young woman who decides to take the test on a whim and she ends up matched with the creator of the program. It's a enemies to lovers and almost a fake dating situation with the two main characters.

I found the story and chemistry between the characters kind of lacking. I think I was wanting more conflict between them in the beginning but it seemed too quick for love..maybe? Some of the steamy moments were steamy. There were some parts that were "science based" and "math based" that I seriously glossed over because I had no idea what the character was getting at.

I did really enjoy the beginning though and listening to the MC interact with her best friend. I was almost more interested in what was going on with the best friend than I was for the MC and her love interest. The ending was your typical Christina Lauren ending. Though I did enjoy this one more than their last book.

Overall, I thought this was middle of the road romance.

3/5

I really enjoyed this one, especially the concept. Jess and River were so cute together, and I loved Jess's daughter.

Quite predictable in how the story ends up for our main character, but very cute concept. In a day of dating apps of every type, one based on DNA connections is so interesting.

For me this one started out a little slow but after a chapter or two I was hooked. It was laugh out loud funny with the banter between Jess, Fizzy, and River. The interactions between River and Juno will give you the warm fuzziness. And the heat between Jess and River will have you needing a fan or an ice cold drink. This is a great book for a fun and light summer read.

The Soulmate Equation is such classic Christina Lauren, and I loved every minute of it! It’s a classic enemies to lovers story. I loved getting to know Jess and River, and all of the minor characters, especially Jess’s daughter, Juno, and her hilarious best friend, Fizzy. I also loved the STEM representation, especially with Jess as a statistician.

I absolutely loved this one! The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren is the third book from this duo I’ve read in the last year, and after three good reads I’ve moved them to the auto-buy list. The witty banter between the MCs and the fully fleshed out side characters kept me from sitting the book down. I wanted to dive into the pages and live there. A quirky spin on online dating, The Soulmate Equation will leave you smiling long after you reach the end.

Jess Davis is a single mom, a freelance statistician, and has completely given up on dating. She has convinced herself that she is happy with her life as it is and doesn’t need to add a partner to the mix. She has her daughter, her grandparents, and her best friend. What else could she possibly need? I really liked Jess. She was a character that it took a while to like though. She’s insecure, constantly second guessing herself and others around her, but with good reason. No one except her grandparents has stayed in Jess’s life. No one has cared enough to do so. My heart broke for her on more than one occasion, even if I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into her.

Then enters Americano, aka Dr. River Pena. Jess has been silently loathing River for years as the two cross paths at the local coffee shop. In her eyes, he’s rude and snobbish. He couldn’t be further from it. River is actually shy, and when he is working, entirely focused on what requires his attention. That can definitely come off as snobbish and rude when you are working in the middle of a coffee shop and say less than two words to anyone around you. I like River. He’s kind, a bit shy, and deeply committed. All good qualities 😉

The premise of the book is River’s company: a new dating service based off DNA. River has spent his career researching genetic markers for attraction and what makes a lasting relationship. As Jess’s best friend and a romance writer herself, Fizzy gets the two invited to tour his business and purchases two kits. Fizzy encourages Jess to take one. After a particularly lonely evening that leaves Jess on a low point, she does just that. Low and behold, Jess matches with River, a man she cannot stand. Hilarity ensues along with some sweet and a few steamy moments. I love the banter between these two and the chemistry is off the pages.

Overall I really loved The Soulmate Equation. Juno, Jess’s daughter, her grandparents and Fizzy are amazing characters in their own rights. They add so much depth and humor to the story. Buddy reading this one with Lenore and Stephanie was a blast. We all agreed on loving this one, wanting to slap some sense into Jess, and that Juno is the most adorable character ever 😉 If you are looking for a sweet romance, I highly recommend it!

This book will live forever in my heart. The characters were fantastic and I wish that they were real. I loved that they weren't your typical romcom leads. I am obsessed and sad that I didn't read this one sooner.

This is a story about the genetics of love.

I had such a fun time reading this book! I’m not typically a romcom fan but this was funny, engaging & just nerdy enough to keep me roped in. The premise of it reminded me a lot of The One by John Mars, except this was less black mirror and more When Harry Met Sally.

Thank you so much Netgalley & Gallery Books!

I’ve always enjoyed a good Christina Lauren book and this one did not disappoint. This book is a cute book with an unusual twist on dating apps that I enjoyed.

River has spent his entire adult life working on a theory that relationship compatibility and happiness can be tied to matching certain genes through genetic testing with a possible mate. How easy would that be to bypass all the worthless dates and jump straight into a guaranteed and successful relationship?

Jess is a single mom that doesn’t have time to date. She meets her best friend, Fizzy, each weekday morning for a coffee in a local shop and they enjoy watching the other regular customers. There is one person they always seem to notice - a guy they call Americano, after the coffee he routinely orders.

Through a series of happenings, Fizzy & Jess take part in the genetic testing and Jess is matched 98% with Americanio (aka River). Will their relationship really stand the test of time - especially since neither of them wanted a relationship with anyone else?

I enjoyed this book - it had all the right feels fo it and it was an easy read - I read it over two days.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are mine without biases.

Great read. nerds for the win. Nothing too traumatic at the end but still very emotional. I breezed through this book, I inhaled it. But I usually do with Christina Lauren books. Great characters and the relationship between everyone.

Christina Lauren is back! 👏🏼👏🏼 The Soulmate Equation was a unique plot, which is something that has bothered me with their last couple of books. But I LOVED this book and I’m happy to say the writing duo is back in my good graces!

Taking a cue from the current DNA craze, the newest from the dynamic duo focuses on a DNA matchmaking company. GeneticAlly is a new company that claims to find your soulmate through DNA. Single mom Jessica is a numbers girl who thinks this is all hogwash and who bristles when she is near the founder, River. But these two are matched with a sky high compatibility and the company looks to capitalize.

This was witty, charming, and oh-so-fun! The characters are lovely and their chemistry off the charts. I loved the supporting characters and desperately want a spin off with Jessica’s best friend Fizzy, whose snark and personality shone in this book. The writing was excellent, and I’m struck again at how this writing duo writes so seamlessly together. Overall, a fun and heartwarming rom-com that I loved! My thanks to @gallerybooks for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

OK I will be the first to admit that I'm not generally a huge Christina Lauren fan. For whatever reason, I read all their books. I think it's because so many of my friends and the people I follow read them and hype them up and I don't want to be left out. I also enjoy a good lighthearted book every now and then and even though they often have me rolling my eyes, sometimes Christina Lauren books just are the palate cleanser I need.

I have to say The Soulmate Equation is my favorite Christina Lauren book to date! It's fun and refreshing and even though much of it feels a bit unrealistic, I really enjoyed it!

Jess is a single mother who rarely makes time for herself, much less dating. She lives with her 7-year-old daughter in an apartment right next to her grandparents, works as a freelance statistician, and spends her free time with her romance novelist best friend Fizzy. When Jess and Fizzy randomly meet the founder of a genetics-based dating application, Jess reluctantly agrees to try it. And it turns out, she's basically a PERFECT match with the founder... Who she just happens to not be able to stand. But when the company offers her money to "get to know" him (it will be huge for their company to show such an awesome match for their founder), she agrees.

The book is fairly predictable, though I had a pretty sure idea of how things would unfold and they happened a bit differently. It definitely gets hot and steamy at times, though it felt more believable to me than the romance in some of their other novels. A few things that happened near the end left me a bit confused, but not enough to ruin the book for me. I really liked Jess as a character.

Overall, The Soulmate Equation is fun, very engaging and readable, and one of Christina Lauren's best to date!

Single mom and professional number cruncher Jess is understandably skeptical when her bubbly best friend introduces her to GeneticAlly, a matchmaking app that uses the human genome to pair up potential partners. But her skepticism reaches dizzying heights when she hears that she has an almost-perfect match — and with one of the company's founders, no less! Half-convinced it's a publicity ploy, but desperate enough to give it a try, Jess agrees to try dating Dr. River Pena. I mean, there's no denying they have physical chemistry...

While I didn't really buy the whole concept of a gene-mapping Match.com, I do have to say that I loved having a single mom as the main character of a romance novel. And, yeah, she has baggage from her past, but none of it has to do with her kid or her ex. This was fun and fluffy; a great vacation/beach read, but nothing to write home about.

As a fan of enemies to lovers, I knew I had to get my hands on this book. Plus it's Christina Lauren. YEP sign me up! I was not disappointed.

River has invented a DNA based dating service, so cool! The book allowed me to let my inner math geek out with talks of stats and p values. But don't fret, you don't need to be a math nerd like me to enjoy the book.

Jess has had some not so positive run ins with River, but lo and behold... Wait for it...their DNA says they are a nearly perfect match. In typical enemies to lovers, hilarity ensues.

I loved Jess' character. She was so well developed and likeable and her BFF was amazing. I want a BFF like that.

There's been debate amongst my book friends on the steam level. I rate this very low steam. A couple spicy scenes, but they are so short, you'll blink and they're over. I am good with or without steam, so I think the mildness of it opens it up to a larger audience.

Christina Lauren is an auto read for me since the Unhoneymooners. I can't wait for the next one!

A fun rom com with a enemies to lovers trope, sprinkled with soulmates and a dating app. Jess and River agree to fake date after matching with an unheard of 98%. The app in which they are found to be compatible is one River has researched and developed. Of course you have your typical budding relationship and the ups and downs of getting to know each other. Fizzy, Jess’s best friend is a hoot and will give you a chuckle or two. Juno, Jess’s daughter is a precocious child and the driving force of her mother’s life. CL book for me started off grabbing my interest but about 3/4 through I felt it begin to lag. The scientific data was a bit hard to follow and I lost interest for a bit. This was not one of my favorite books of this writing duo. Overall a cute premise and I did like the characters which in their own ways keep the book entertaining. Thank you #NetGalley #TheSoulmateEquation for the ARC all opinions are my own.

Jess and her exuberant best friend Fizzy work remotely together at a local coffee shop every day. Everyday at 8:24, a grumpy man walks in and orders an Americano. After learning that this man, River, is launching a new dating services that claims to make matches based on DNA, romance-author Fizzy drags Jess in to learn more. Jess has a struggling business and a 7-year-old daughter so she believes that dating is impractical for her, but Fizzy is intrigued.

First off, Fizzy is THE BEST. The absolute best. I want to read a whole story about her. Second, River. 😍 I love a man of mystery, and River is very reserved and mysterious. He appears aloof but is actually very focused and a bit shy. I fell in love with all of River’s soft shy smiles and Jess’s quick sarcasm.

All-in-all, this story felt a bit insta-lovey for me, especially as an enemies-to-lovers plot. I know it’s kind of in the concept, being matched on a DNA level, but it felt rushed and forced to me. Maybe lacking a bit in chemistry. This book didn’t quite hit as strongly as a lot of CL books but was still a great read.
