Christina Lauren does it again, a surprise to absolutely NO ONE. The duo are ALWAYS auto-buy for me.. I thoroughly loved the storyline and the character growth. Jess is probably my favorite character as I love her sassiness. Can she be my mom friend please?
My favorite ladies. CLo, I love y’all and can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be able to review The Soulmate Equation. Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a review!
I LOVED the premise - an app that can use your DNA to decide whether or not two people would be a good match. I also love that they did a solid job of making sure I was NOT a River fan from the start - because nobody is perfect, and obviously it’s way more fun to fall in love with a guy you realize is secretly a big softie at heart. 🥰
As a parent, I empathize so hard with Jess’s struggles in raising Juno while also freelancing. (Sidebar - single parents are absolute superheroes, no matter how much help they have. I’d lose my mind raising my kids solo.) I love that River made Juno a priority, and watching he and Jess navigate the waters of romance while also keeping her family in the forefront of consideration in the midst of the media frenzy over their unexpectedly high match was so rewarding to witness.
This book had everything I love about CLo books - romance, tension, sweet moments, flirting, and characters who I really want to see win. And good sex (duh). Now I’m depressed because I have no more of their books to look forward to. 🥲
PS Team Fizzy forever.
Finally had some free time and was able to read The Soulmate Equation. Can this company be real? I want to be in their system and find my perfect match. What an amazing read. Love Christina Laurens writing and this book did not disappoint.
Jessica Davis is a single mom that lives paycheck to paycheck. Her ex wanted nothing to do with their child and signed all his rights away. Jess’s mother and father are not in the picture and she was raised by her grandparents which were an amazing support behind her while she worked and raised her daughter. She has a best friend named Fizzy, who is convinced Jess needs to get out there again and start dating, so when they find out that one of customer’s Jess and Fizzy see every day at the coffee shop they go to is the inventor of GeneticAlly, she is shocked.
GeneticAlly is a Matchmaking Company that uses DNA to find someone’s true match. Jess can’t picture the rude, HOT as hell jerk, Americano drinking guy they see every day being the brains behind something this romantic. River Pena, has always been smarter than most. Science has always pulled him in, and when someone told him something wasn’t possible, he proved them wrong. That’s how he created GeneticAlly. He has been working on this most of his life and it’s about to go live around the world. So when Jessica and Fizzy started asking questions, he told them to come in and give their DNA. The more people in the system the more positive results they have. What he did not expect days later to be called into a board meeting and be told, he was matched?!?
How could he forget his information and DNA was in the system? He was the first one to create an account in the program. But what was even more shocking to him was that the compatibility score was 98%. He had to rerun the samples. There are only 3 other people that have scored over 90%. It seems impossible, Jess and River can’t stand each other from the interactions they have had. But the sparks and chemistry between them is there. Can the GeneticAlly board convince them to give this match a chance for the company? Jess is in need of some money and River is committed to see this company succeed, can they do this?
I received this book from NetGalley for my honest review and opinion. It was a great read and like I said above, I wish this company were real because I want to send my DNA in and find my match. The characters had amazing chemistry. Great job again from Christina Lauren!
A fun, flirty read with a smidge of angst. The best part is once I got to know River I couldn't wipe the goofy grin off my face.
Jess is a glorious single mom trying her best to be everything she never had for her daughter.
I loved her sassy wit and not afraid to speak it as it is attitude.
I couldn't read fast enough yet I wish there was more. The story is great and a perfectly light enjoyment but I wish CL would've dug her claw into the drama. A little less predictability.
It's a wonderful heart warming beach read.
This is the first book I have read by Christina Lauren and it did not disappoint. This sweet beach read questions whether we are genetically better matched with some people. Light hearted and fun.
I really don't know how they do it but they always write such addicting heart-warming romance stories. And they did another amazing job with The Soulmate Equation. I always knew that nerdy characters falling in love are always the best to read. They are just too cute when they fall in love unexpectedly. It's never their plan. Sometimes, love comes unexpectedly at times. I know that's how Dr. River Pena feels when he get's positive match with Jess. You may know that they generally don't like each other at first. It's a more hostile situation for them. When they do get around with their dates or let their guard down, they have more things in common than they never knew. It may surprise them but love does that to you. And I know you will fall in love with them as I did.
A lonely, frumpy single mom and a smoking hot, standoffish geneticist hate to love story. They can't stand each other after their first few encounters but according to the DNA love match testing, they are more meant to be than any other couple tested. With Jess' not so great finances, the monetary incentive to see where things go for research purposes are hard to say no to.
While I enjoyed the story, it did what I like least in single parent romances, the child was just wonderful in every way and welcomed the new guy with open arms. There was also a mother that just didn't really fit into the story and I could've done without. The best friend was pretty fun and I was really hoping for her to end up with a specific love match by the end or at least a hint of her own book but that didn't happen. That said, I still enjoyed this read and thought the concept was pretty fun.
Christina Lauren strikes again with another fantastic read! The premise is interesting (where can I sign up to find my DNA soulmate?!) and the characters were absolutely loveable. Jess and River were a swoon-worthy couple and I really enjoyed reading the build up of their romance. Fizzy was hilarious and I laughed out loud every time she wrote down a new scene for her book (especially the Zoom call moment!). Nana Jo, Pops and Juno rounded out the most incredible, supportive family. The whole book was a love fest and I love reading every bit of it (even the nerdy science terms!).
My heart is bursting! What a great love story! Equal parts fun, smart, and lovely. The romance between Jess and river is sexy and swoon-worthy. With a hat-tip to Mr. Darcy and Lizzie Bennett, this enemies to lovers romance was exactly what I needed to make my heart soar. Science and statistical jargon aside, It was a fast fun read that I would highly recommend to all my romance loving friends. Christina Lauren has done it again! This is easily a new favorite!
Internet dating had been around for decades, but meeting someone randomly through a computer or app still does not seem normal. The Soulmate Equation takes all of the weird out of dating and adds in a great twist with DNA match dating. My husband and I met over twenty years ago online, but before the major players. This book not only makes dating scientific, but it is also so believable in the struggles busy people have. The characters in the book Jess and River are honest and believable. This is my second Christina Lauren book and my favorite. Enjoy this new take on dating. You will not be disappointed with the story.
This seems to be a very popular trope lately, between tv and books. It was the first time I had seen it and since then it seems to be popping up everywhere. However, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to friends. I thought it was well written and kept my attention and I was rooting for the couple. I was already a fan of the author based on her previous work so I'm happy that this novel was in a similar vein and of like caliber.
I'm always into a nerdy, intelligent protagonist and this novel brought that. I think we can all relate to a heroine who has given up on love and who is just waiting to be inspired, or forced, into giving a new relationship a try. To watch the heroine be cautiously vulnerable and then to see the hero similarly blossom into a loveable, dimensional character, was wonderful.
After a couple of books that I wasn't thrilled with, Christina Lauren is back in perfect form with The Soulmate Equation. The main characters are smart and interesting. The backstory for Jess is excellent. And the love between her grandparents, Jess, and her daughter Juno is wonderful.
Jess is a single mother who meets up with a friend at the local coffee shop in the mornings. Every day at 8:24, a male customer they nickname "Americano" comes in like clockwork. One day they strike up a conversation and he invites them to try the DNA matching dating service he is involved with. The science is what intrigues Jess, and wouldn't you know, she and River are unbelievable matches for one another.
By the time they discover that the DNA results may not be accurate, they have discovered their attraction to one another. But was it science or fate?
My thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is my new favorite Christina Lauren novel. A single mom on a whim agrees to submit a sample for a DNA test which claims to find your soulmate match. The only problem is that the brains behind the company belong to the broody, handsome man she sees every day in the coffee shop, who her friend Fizzy and her fondly call "Americano." But things change for Jess very rapidly when her sample comes back with a 98% match, a match that has never been achieved before - a Diamond Match. This is a lovely story and I could not put it down. I read it in one sitting.

The latest book from Christina Lauren is the perfect example of what makes their stories so great - a fun premise, humor, great characters, and a wonderful love story. I was so fascinated by the matchmaking service at the heart of the plot - online dating meets genetic testing to find your best match, hopefully a soulmate.
Jess and River had such a fun dynamic throughout, going from strangers to enemies to supposed soulmates. Their nerding out moments about science and data were so entertaining. This book was parts sweet, funny, and emotional and I loved every second of it.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! Could not put this one down!! Super cute, somewhat predictable, and really loved the ending. Some of the DNA related talk went over my head, but the premise of this story was really cool. Highly recommend if you need an easy, fun read!
Christina Lauren does it again! I have to admit at first I was a bit skeptical about the premise of the book but I fell in love with the characters, especially Juno! Jess is a single mother to her spunky, smart, sweet daughter Juno and is getting lots of pressure from her best friend and romance writer Fizzy and her grandparents to start to date. When an opportunity to date River (or, Americano as he’s referred to by Jess and Fizzy) comes along, she decides to take it. Even though their compatibility was measured by DNA....a weird concept but it totally works in the story. I loved seeing Jess’ growth through the novel, as well as River’s character unfolding. There’s definitely softness behind his tough exterior! It was a quick read and a super cute story!
I'm a big fan of Christina Lauren's books and I really enjoyed their latest book; The Soulmate Equation. This is a story of single mom Jess Davis and how she ends up on a first name basis with "Americano." The backstory of this book was interesting and I enjoyed the concept of it. I felt that it was fairly easy to predict that something was going to happen to question if they were indeed soulmates and I was right. I gave this book four stars. I enjoyed the writing and the storyline, although I didn't fall head over heels for this couple. I felt they lacked something and I didn't like it when River just vanished. I did love his time with Juno and thought that was the sweetest.
A good romance that was an easy read.
What a great premise for a rom-com! Constantly hustling, single mom Jess takes a DNA based matchmaking test and is paired Dr. River Pena, a man she can't stand. This is an engaging, nerdy variation on the enemies to lovers trope. The Soulmate Equation has such a fun cast of characters, but my favorite was Jess's best friend Fizzy. She was a delight! Don't miss out on this smart, entertaining love story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC.
“The Soulmate Equation” by Christina Lauren follows a woman named Jess who finds out that she is genetically best suited for a man that seems to be the opposite of what she wants/needs. Christina Lauren is known for witty romance novels that are hard to put down and this one is no exception! With a likable main character and some hysterical interactions and banter, this one is sure to be another hit! The science based concept of matchmaking is such an interesting plot point but the shining star of this one is the endearing cast of characters and the smart, funny and entertaining dialogue.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a sweet read!! As a teenager, I didn't exactly relate to the book, but that didn't take away from my enjoyability of the book. The concept is very Black Mirror: you find your soulmate through a DNA match. This is a trope I often see in fan fiction, but I hadn't really seen it in literature often until reading this!
This book felt so authentic. I love the way Christina Lauren writes characters that have great depth, and this book was no exception to that. You'll absolutely love this romance.
