Single mom Jess Davis trusts numbers and science, so when she hears about a matchmaking company that uses DNA to pair couples, she’s intrigued. But she grows skeptical when she’s matched with Dr. River Pena, who is 100% wrong for her, no matter what the data says.
I'm a long-time Christina Lauren fan and I think their readers will find so much to love in this book. In a romance, I love when the heroine has a built-in support system and we see so much of that in Jess' grandparents and even her relationship with her daughter. I also absolutely adored Jess' best friend Fizzy—who provided both excellent comic relief and friendship to Jess throughout the book.
Jess and River get off to a rocky start and I loved reading along as they slowly found common ground and began to give into the attraction they felt between the. The science of DNA pairing also felt like a fun nod to the beloved fated mates trope in PNR ith a contemporary twist.
I loved this Christina Lauren book and blazed right through it. I was intrigued by the very relevant DNA/science/matchmaking component. I have really enjoyed every book I have read by this duo and was, of course, sucked in to find out what the conflict of this book would be and how it got resolved.
If you could spit in a tube and have your DNA matched to a stranger’s, would you? When Jess decides to spit into a tube, on a whim, she never expects to find a match, let alone a Diamond match of 98% compatibility, but that’s what happens. Not only does she end up with the highest match that the company, GeneticAlly has ever had but her match is one of the founders of the company, a man she only previously knew as Americano, his nickname when she saw him in their mutual coffee shop. Americano’s name is actually River and he and Jess decide to enter into an agreement to give them match a shot ahead of his company going public. What follows is Jess and River trying to decide if they truly are the soulmates that their DNA suggests. This was an adorable little romance by the incredible authors Christina Lauren. Jess and her daughter, Juno, are the characters you root for and River’s sexiness oozes across the page.
Christina Lauren is one of my favorite romance authors. This was such a good book! I was a little worried going into it because of the science aspect, I am in the science field and tend to hate if they get the science wrong. But this book did not disappoint! It was a cute single mom- enemies love story and I was all for it!
This is the second book I’ve finished by CHRISTINA LAUREN
I’ve started several.
Sometimes when I read CL books I think 🤔
Maybe the romance genre is NOT for me.
This book specifically is cute but felt super thin. Shallow or at least superficial. The characters have no depth.
I think what’s I’m saying is:
“What’s on the line for the character?”
“Where is the tension?”
“Why do I care?”
I’m sure there is a market for this level of intimacy with characters but I prefer my romance a little heftier.
The writing is good. Simple and straightforward. Maybe a good beach read.

This was my first Christina Lauren book, and it was okay, I wasn't a huge fan of the romance, and I found the conflict towards the end to be predictable and cliché.
Christina Lauren is an auto buy author for me, as they can do no wrong. The premise of this book is so unique! Not only can they master enemies to lovers, their chemistry is like no other. When River designs a genetic dating app, the last thing he is expecting is to be matched with someone with the highest percentage the company has seen. In comes Jess, the single mother of Juno. I loved their banter as River was such a grouch. However, getting to see their relationship unfold completely melted those feelings away . He not only had feelings for Jess but also her daughter (swoon!!!). The one thing is I wish we got more of their relationship, however HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Just like any Christina Lauren book, you know exactly how the story is going to end, but it grips you nonetheless. I loved the incorporation of science into this romantic tale, and found the use of DNA for compatibility a nice touch. Of course, the interwoven deception by the company was just a great way to create a rift between the two lovers, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
I was excited to read the latest book from this author but this was a miss for me. The main characters lacked any real chemistry and their relationship wasn't realistic to me. Jess and River have maybe three interactions and suddenly are in love. He doesn't seem interested in her or even nice to her, so these romantic feels just didn't add up.
Juno was such a wonderful character and I loved the relationship with her and River. I will read everything and anything by the dynamic duo. Well done!
I will read ANYTHING Christina Lauren puts out!! I manage a small rural library and I recommend their books to almost everyone! These books are always lighthearted and such a easy read! I love them!
This book was very enjoyable for me, but it is not a new favorite. I would love to see more from this couple because I genuinely loved River and Jess (and Juno, of course). The twist was interesting and kinda disappointed me slightly because I was curious about the number on the paper that River had. It would be really interesting if this became a series of the different couples that get matched with this app, but I kinda doubt that would happen. Overall, I enjoyed the reading experience and got through the book fairly quickly, but I wasn’t as invested as I wanted to be.
The perfect romance book for the technological modernity we are currently experiencing. What happens when your genes can predict who your soulmate will be? This is a popular trend and trope on the rise and I think Christina Lauren executed it well. I found myself enjoying this as I did The Unhoneymooners. Swoony and heartfelt.
This book was swoon worthy. I enjoyed that the main character had a child and that was her priority. I will ready any book by these authors.
Fun! I've purchased it for the library. I'm currently clearing out all of the books that were published in 2019-21 from my title feedback view!
The Soulmate Equation is my second book by writing duo Christina Lauren and it will not be my last. Thoroughly enjoyable contemporary romance that always delivers heart, romance, and laughs.
In this story, we meet single mom and statistician, Jess, and River, founder and scientist for GeneticAlly, a DNA-based matchmaking company. As you can imagine, Jess and River are highly matched (98%!) and are thrust together for the company but also for their own sizzling chemistry.
What makes this a stand-out contemporary romance in my opinion are the expert mix of sexy heat, true hard and real feelings, and the wonderful side characters that create the full picture. Without all of these, you just have a steamy romance but what I'm looking for is the heart underneath it all and the Soulmate Equation delivers. Whether it be Jess's difficult relationship with her mother or her genuine friendships, the authors have created real "love" and not just sex. Can't wait to see what they write next!
One little criticism, I really enjoyed this but some "technical" speak could have been removed for me.
However, I still will recommend it to all patrons looking for contemporary romance.
Whenever there is a new book by Christina Lauren
I have to read it. I love these authors books. This one was not one of my favorites but it was still good. The Soulmate Equation was cute and I can’t wait for their next book.
This was a really great romance and the concept of the book was fantastic! The characters were well developed and I would recommend this to any romance reader.
This book was amazing- probably my favorite of all their book and that’s saying something when I loved the rest. I really enjoyed the mix of new dating technology with old fashioned get to know someone through dates. The supporting characters were a lot of fun. As always this was well paced, funny and romantic. I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend,

The story was a refreshing take into the romance world, The Idead Behind DNA Soulmate Match is Very Interesting to me and i enjoyed that part of it. I expected her match to be someone she didn't particularly like, which was the case. From there things were expected as soon as she accepted the challenge from GeneticAlly.
The Relationship did have a slow build which i enjoyed i felt it went well with the concept that they were going for as i feel if they would of fell in love right away like in most books it would have rated a lot lower and would have not been as enjoyable for the reader.
Jess' character was very well rounded and her feelings about relationships were justified even though they needn't be. her Support system of her grandparents and her best friend i enjoyed, Fizzy as a character was well needed and i loved them. With everything that i saw coming i completely missed the target with the plot twists throughout the book which blew my mind and i was happy to not guess and enjoyed their reveal.
