So alluringly enchanting!
Not My Match has stolen my heart and is easily one of my new favorites. With wonderful characters, fresh sparks of wit and highly imaginative plot, this story bursts with swoony, sexy and pitch-perfect moments.
The chemistry between the characters is sizzling. Giselle is a character you'd want to be friends with. And Devon (omg, so hot) a guy you'd want for yourself. Their banter, the way they cared for each other, the sexual tension! Wholesome perfection.
Ilsa's writing style is something distinct and charming. More than that, it's captivating. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it was so big-time.
It's one of those treasures you can read again and again and know you're going to love it each time.
Giselle has made one big mistake in her past and that was her ex-boyfriend. She is smart, quirky and a breath of fresh air so when a fire leaves her homeless Devon, her brother in-law’s teammate, gives her a place to stay. Roommates and nothing more, she can deny the attraction she feels for him as he would never be interested in someone like her. What could possibly go wrong?
Devon is a professional football player who is not only dealing with a complicated personal life, but his past has ensured that he isn’t looking for love or a relationship. His teammate has made it clear that he and everyone else on the team are to keep their distance from his sister in-law but the more time he spends with her the more time he wants to spend with her, and the sparks are going to fly.
You may remember these two from the first book in this series but if you think you know them you are mistaken. There are so many layers to these characters, and they are so much fun together, but it is the emotional pull of their story that has you invested in them and their happy ever after.
I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. Once again Ilsa has done outstanding work with Not my match. I loved Devon in not my romeo. I was dying for his story. At first in Elena and Jack's book i wasn't a huge fan of Giselle, but now all that's changed. I love this series, and im so looking forward to Aiden and maybe Danika?? Or Selena hmm let's see.
"Do what makes your heart fly. Every breath you inhale must be meaningful."
I'm not quite sure where to begin or how to describe how much I wholeheartedly enjoyed Not My Match. Returning to Daisy to these characters and this world was simply amazing.💜
Giselle and Devon will pull you in like magnets... their story was so uniquely theirs. A friendship, an unexpected bond and a "forbidden" pull towards one another that couldn't be avoided. I loved the evolution of these two, the slow burn & surprising sweetness and vulnerability that I just did not expect. All the feels ya'll! Throw in the daisy lady gang, friendships, meddling mothers, forgiveness and family and you've got yourself one heck of a read! I truly hope this series does not end anytime soon because I am obsessed 💜
No good deed goes unpunished when dealing with matters of the heart. Giselle and Devon are the type of beautiful that drives emotions crazy. Mills gives the heart a reason to feel. The mind something to ponder and the senses a reason to burn. Not My Match is the purest form of breathless, beautiful, crazy heartache.
A great 5 star page turner that was entertaining and captivating.
Giselle finds herself needing a place to stay so Devon, the football star offers her a place. He’s been sworn to stay away from her, but can he?
This is the virginal nerd who finds herself falling for the football star. They are different in every way. But like they say opposites attract. It was fun, highly entertaining story. I loved these amazingly created characters that made me love them. There was never a dull moment with Gisele. A beautifully written story with an amazing storyline. Bottomline this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...
4.5 stars
This is Devon, Jack’s bestie, and Giselle, Elena’s sister, story.
If you read Not My Romeo (which you totally should), you know that Elena and Giselle did not have the best relationship at first because quite frankly Giselle was stupid. I wasn’t sure if I would completely enjoy a book on Giselle, but Devon’s swoon-worthiness totally made it enjoyable.
One thing that made me like Giselle was that she did it sugarcoat what she did to Elena; she wouldn’t even forgive herself even when Elena did. Giselle was bit a mess but in the most endearing way and she was definitely what Devon needed. Devon, Devon, Devon what can I say? I want to keep him forever, his sweet, caring and damaged self.
I was very annoyed with Elena and Jack being so cavalier and downright condescending when it came to Devon’s feelings for Giselle. Jack was acting like he was saint and Devon was no good playboy when Jack was just as bad as Devon; but what Jack didn’t consider was that he changed when he met Elena and Devon changed when he met Giselle.
I was bit thrown off about the CERN situation, I figured a little conversation on it before any moves would have been beneficial but Giselle freaked out and Devon overreacted; totally annoyed me, but I was pleased with the resolution.
I look forward to Aiden’s book! Maybe him and Selena?
This is a sweet friends to lover romance, second in this Ilsa Madden-Mills series. I did read the first, but I’m terrible with remembering character connections so I didn’t have the reservations some did about Giselle.
Giselle is fun, a little eccentric, but overall very inexperienced when it comes to love. Devon is a (formerly) womanizing friend who agrees to help her explore her more wild side and be her wingman. At the same time, his feelings get tangled.
There are some parts I loved (fire scene was one), but I also felt disengaged in some of the middle slow burn moments. I liked the HEA, though near the end it seemed that certain conflicts were wrapped up too quickly.
All in all, about a 3.5/3.75 for me—worth a read, definitely, but not my favorite from this author
5⭐️
I love this book. I probably love this more than the first book.
It was swoony and sweet and the anticipation between Devon and Giselle gave me chills and butterflies!
I admit, I didn't like Giselle when I read the first book. Like, how could she do it to her own sister?? It was repulsive on so many levels!
Bit she redeemed herself in this one, and I love them. They mesh well.
Wish there was more *heart eyes*
So, We first meet Devon and Giselle in Not My Romeo.
Devon is the cocky show off football.
Gisselle is the nerdy unliked sister.
This is a story I never knew I needed!
I loved them! Especially Giselle! She definitely redeems herself in this book! She’s funny, crazy, sweet, and a sexy nerd!
Devon is a lot more than just a flashy football playing womanizer.
They’re both wounded from past experiences but they have this instant connection.
Of course they try to fight it and become quick best friends.
What do you do when you can’t resist what’s meant to be?
Well read the story to find out ;)
Devon & Giselle couldn’t BE anymore different, yet they understand each better than anyone.
Ilsa has a knack for making you smile with joy, yet feel sad at the same time when histories are being told.
Giselle is so quirky and lovable, Devon is the sporty too dog.
I don’t want to give too much away because experiencing this that first time is an experience.
Reading any Ilsa book is a wonderful experience.
Side Note.... is anyone else interested in reading an Ilsa alien romance!?!
I didn’t connect with the story as much as I would have wanted to. Book 1 was an instant connection (Not my Romero).
Giselle has recently ended her engagement and has all these goals ahead of her. She’s all planned out. Until an accident turns things upside down and she unexpectedly has a new roommate. The one person she would never have expected!
Aiden is trying his best to keep on track with his business and keep the guys away from his best friend's sister in law.. until it hits him hard.. he has feelings for her! The untouchable one.
If you enjoy Opposites attract, this one is for you. Giselle and Devon are opposites but their attraction is there from day one!
“Love hurts when people leave, no matter the reason why.”
I feel like with every book I read by llsa Madden-Mills she gives me a new book boyfriend, but this time she gave me a heroine who I have a small girl crush on. Not my Match is a slow burn romance, full of emotion, steam, swoon worthy moments & the occasional funny moment. It will also give you all the FEELS as you watch Devon & Giselle battle their feelings for one another.
I loved Giselle, she was intelligent, quirky & funny. If you’ve read Not My Romeo, then you might be a wary of her, but to be honest I liked her from the first page. She had such a big heart, and made mistakes along the way, but she owned them and that made her so much more endearing.
Now Devon *gosh that man* was the definition of alpha male, football god & Jack’s best friend he was such an amazing hero. He is a little vulnerable & guarded, and it’s understandable he’s been left behind so many times in life. He offers to help Giselle, but along the way he falls hard for her.
Giselle & Devon were such a great couple, you could feel the sexual tension & chemistry between them, every time they are in the same room together. The push & pull, the will they won’t they, just kept me hanging on to the very end. I loved everything about this book, and it did not disappoint. I can see a re read in the not to distance future.
"Do what makes your heart fly. Every breath you inhale must be meaningful."
I don’t know how Ilsa does it. I really don’t. I finished this book last night and I am STILL reeling over how just, like, incredible it was. I wasn’t kidding when I said before that she gets better with each release. I thought we had a favorite hero/story combination with Not My Romeo but my GOD I, and I cannot stress this enough, loved this story. Absolutely head over heels loved.
You meet Devon and Giselle in Not My Hero, but it’s not crucial to read that book first (although I definitely encourage it, Jack is the best.) and that’s how they, too, meet. Devon is Jack’s teammate, and Jack marries Giselle’s sister, Elena. They’re friends, but in that “we know each other through close people of ours so we’re not really friends but friendly” kind of way, and that’s apparent when the book starts (or, at least that’s what Giselle tells us.) What ensues from there is a heartwarming and hilarious story of two people being thrown together through random acts of kindness, essentially, and the relationship that builds from there. Devon, a star Wide Receiver for NFL and Giselle, a physicist working on her PhD, seemingly have nothing in common and are an unlikely pair, but as they get closer and learn more about one another, they learn that maybe that’s not required to have a solid foundation and beautiful relationship.
This book had it all; sexual tension, chemistry out the wazoo, hilarious dialogue, snappy internal monologues and thoughts we’ve all had, and just so much freaking emotion. I laughed hysterically (like side-clutching had to stop reading laughing), sobbed my eyes out (so loud I woke my boyfriend up at 1am) and just never wanted it to end. It was honestly Such. A. Good. Book. I’m sure there are some things people will find fault with, and if I tried hard enough I bet I could too, but I don’t want to. This book made me endlessly happy and I miss the characters so much already I’ve gone back and reread some of my favorite scenes about 10x. Did I mention I finished last night? I honestly can’t let this book go.
"You are the best person in all my universes"
I MEAN COME ON. The feelings this book pulled out of me, I just can’t even quite put it into words. I think this might be Ilsa’s best book yet.
From our main duo, and their friends, Aiden and Jack and Elena, to Myrtle and the Daisy Lady Gang, this cast will have you weeping and laughing, sometimes both at once.
Did I already tell you I love this book? Because I love this book.
Thank you, Ilsa, for these characters. I cannot wait to see what you have in store of us next.
***Many thanks to the Netgalley and Montlake publishing for my review copy***
This right here demonstrates the best formula Ilsa Madden-Mills writes – broken, hot jock falls for quirky, smart girl. It’s one of the reasons why I never hesitate to read Ilsa’s books and she has become a one-click author for me.
Ilsa is a master at bringing the vulnerability out in every character she writes and in Devon and Giselle it is no different. At first we meet a confident pro-football star and shy science girl, but soon we discover their inner workings. Devon has more to him than just the confident womanizer he appears to be and Giselle may be inexperienced, but her inner vixen is dying to break free.
Giselle has the worst luck in the dating department. From a very early age, not only has her choices in the wrong men led to disastrous dates, but some of those dates have lead to the men going to the hospital. She refers to it as being cursed, but maybe she just hasn’t met the right man to break the curse. She hasn’t proven that theory because well…no man has ever felt right or really stuck around. Poor Giselle. However, Devon can’t seem to stay away, but he’s not dating her. He’s the best friend of her sister’s husband and when Giselle needs a place to stay he offers up a room at his place. That’s what acquaintance/friends do after all.
Devon has no idea what he’s doing. Offering up his pent house to Giselle is a horrible and wonderful idea all wrapped up in one package. She temps him like no other woman ever has, but he also knows it’s the best option when she has no where else to go after her apartment building caught on fire. It’s just for a few days until she can find something else, but those few days may just drive him out of his mind, while she drives herself into his heart.
While Giselle has never really had a real relationship with anyone, she is so sweetly quirky and adorable in her innocence. Her brilliant mind is really what attracts Devon to her more than anything as they build a friendship between them. Where as Devon hasn’t had a real relationship with a woman since college, so letting Giselle get close is dangerous territory, but the longer he tells himself it is just a friend helping out a friend he’s fine, but the longer he fools himself it’s just a timebomb waiting to explode. The chemistry between them is truly explosive, but they both keep a lid on it, neither one of them willing to jeopardize what they have, but can it last the longer they are in each other’s close proximity?
This is a slow burn, friends/roommates to lovers romance with a lot of witty banter, quirky characters from Daisy and hot men from the football team. Overall, it’s a wonderful, fun read.
Get ready to feel that zing...
Devon and Giselle are sooo sweet. I didn’t know how I felt about Giselle having her own book at first, but now I am here for it! We first met her in Not My Romeo, while both are standalones I highly recommend reading it first.
Anyway, much like Devon I ended up falling for Giselle. She is hilarious, strong, has a beautiful heart, super smart, and I love how she stands up for others.
The connection between Devon and Giselle is evident from the start of the novel. While Devon may try to fight it, and even try to find her a guy, the sparks and zing between the two is there. I also really love the sub characters in this, many you see in NMR as well, but they added so much to the story. Go read and fall in love with more of Ilsa amazing characters.
Not My Match is another good book by Ilsa Madden-Mills who is one of my favorite authors!
I’m glad we got to hear Devon and Giselle’s story as I found Devon very intriguing in the first book. His story is truly heartbreaking in itself. I enjoyed the story line as it was somewhat original. I will say that I had a hard time connecting with the two. I did feel or see that chemistry between the two characters that I would typically would get. I think I enjoyed this book more than the first one though. And although I didn’t connect with it like I wanted to, I still recommend it!
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
I was consumed with this hilarious and sweet romance. I fell in complete love with this book. Ilsa Madden-Mills created such a magical and passionate romantic story that it is in a word...Unforgettable. I loved the connection between these two opposites, that spark of something more, a connection that is simply magnetic, and their chemistry reverberated through the pages and into my heart. Two imperfect people who were perfect for each other. This love story is filled with angst, love and laughter as well as so many lovable quirky characters. It made my heart full. I laughed, I cried and I fell in love with Giselle and Devon.
“Love and happiness those tangible beautiful, hard-to-hold things are what count the most.”
This wonderful read has an abundance of feels, as well as aww moments. All the repressed simmering emotions, the anxiety over risking what they held dear for so long for what their heart desperately longs for always makes my heart skip a beat and makes me swoon. This is one you won’t want to miss, and will read again and again.
I absolutely love that Ilsa continues to give us characters to fall in love with, Giselle and Devon did not disappoint!
In honestly I wasn’t a fan of Giselle in Not My Romeo( due to events in that book) but did she redeem herself and made me a fan of her after the first few pages. The banter and tension between Giselle and Devon was off the charts, I laughed out loud and felt those emotions tug on my heart. I’m really hoping that these characters continue and get more books from the Daisy crew! Any fan of sports romance needs to start an Ilsa Madden Mills binge reading, she does such a great job giving us different stories!
DNF at 10%. I really loved Not My Romeo and was excited for Not My Match. However, right from the start this one didn’t work for me. Everything felt over exaggerated and like the characters were caricatures. Giselle’s bad date was so over the top bad. Devon isn’t just hot and wealthy - he also wears a Rolex on one wrist and a leather cuff on the other - and in case we can’t figure out what that means it is also spelled out in the next sentence “One part civilized, the other side all bad boy and oh-so-decadent.” Oh - and did I mention he tells Giselle she’s not like other girls? This one isn’t for me. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance reading copy.
