A fun and light caper set in England. Reminds me a lot of P.G. Wodehouse style with showing the gentry in a silly way Enjoyed this one, although at times I got a few of the side characters mixed up (minor). Would highly recommend this one.
I was attracted to this book by the description, but the book did not live up to that description in my opinion. It was amusing at first, but the relentless, over done, almost slapstick “humor” was so overwhelming that it overpowered the characters at times and almost became predictable.
It really wasn’t badly written and I’m sure there are many who would consider it very entertaining, but I am not one one of them.
Felt like a change from murder stories and thought this might hit the button. A down at heels aristocratic family and the trials and tribulations of a treasure hunt amongst local politics sounded promising as well as the description. Sadly this did not come to pass for me. The characters are too over the top making the whole book feel like a Brian Rix 1950s farce meets Blot on the Landscape all on steroids. Sorry. It wasn't badly written or anything but such unappealing characters and scenes as to be beyond my resilience. Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was a lighthearted funny book. If you just want an easy book to read this is ideal for you.. thank you for my early read
This was a book written with humor. William Duncan goes to visit his uncle, Lord Beddington to learn about estate management. He gets involved with two women, one who thinks he has money and she wants to marry and have some of it and the other he thinks he loves. His uncle and aunt both are in the hospital from accidents and he calls his dad in to help him with his problems.
General Duncan is a drinker who is broke with a huge mess hall bill. Then the wealthy aunt shows up but she does not like the drinking. Keep the characters straight and the trouble they each find themselves in from one day to the next. Don't forget the ship with the treasure too.
One of the feel good humorous book which will keep you in splits the whole time. The adorable William Duncan, his father the general, his to be fiancée, the girl whom he loves and the dependable adjutant , all these characters have made the book a very enjoyable one to be read and read again. The timeline of the story is short and the jump from one event to another is so seamless that you are completely drawn in to the story.
Highly recommended for a good laugh .
