I loved this. I went into it thinking it would be a plain romance. but it was so so so much more. I loved the relationships that developed throughout the novel.
I had started this book awhile ago and I thought it had cute vibes although I did struggle to stay hooked throughout the story. I loved the idea of a romance book based on someone working in the wedding industry and tied in with the being in England plot where I am the biggest sucker for it but i just found the ending neutral and it wasn't anything crazy memorable, although it was over all pretty good! I would recommend it to people who are really into the romance genre.
I started the ARC, but never got hooked enough to finish it. I ended up finishing it through my library. It was very cute and had some heartwarming moments. However, it did have some cringey moments. I was expecting a romcom, but the reason I did not finish the first time was because there was no real romance to follow along with. The story itself is fun and an easy read. It makes you chuckle and smile along with the characters, but the love story aspect of it is lacking.
I love British romcoms and this was hysterical a living professional bridesmaid is hired by a royal client for her daughter’s wedding. The bride is not happy about it. Well this puts Sophie in the middle .as she dies her best to succeed. This is a an entertaining funny and emotional story.
Sophie is a professional bridesmaid, hired by families to assist brides in ensuring their big day goes smoothly. When she is chosen to assist with the biggest society wedding of the year, Sophie knows this is the opportunity she's been waiting for. But when the bride herself is determined to prove she doesn't need Sophie's help, issuing crazy demands, Sophie needs to do all she can to get her onside.
This book was absolutely hilarious! I couldn't believe some of the scenarios Sophie was required to deal with, especially with several bridezillas. With so many laugh out loud moments and a light romance element, this book will definitely keep you entertained.
This book was so good. I loved the dynamic between Sophie/Emily and the 'bridezilla'.
I felt like the ending was perfect.
The Secret Bridesmaid was a super fun book that I really enjoyed! I read this book over the summer and it had everything that I could want in a summer book. The atmosphere was perfect, the writing was cute and the characters were lovely.
I also loved the media segments throughout the book. I always thought that things like this make the book come to life so much more!
I definitely recommended this one if you are in need of a feel good book!
How delightful! Not so much a romance, but still ended up with 2 HEAs. Sophie Breeze has been such a great bridesmaid to so many of her friends, that after she helps her cousin, Cara, she suggests that she become a professional bridesmaid. Not a wedding planner but a professional bridesmaid. Who cares if it is a thing. Make it one. So, Sophie leaves her job as a personal assistant, taking her skills with her and is very successful, except with her personal life. She and her ex, Daniel, share the same friends, and he has quickly moved on. She then has a big break, hired by the Marchioness of Meade, for her daughter Cordelia's wedding, which will be the society wedding of the year. But the bride, Cordelia is not happy and does her best to get Sophie to quit. And she almost does, until she convinces herself that Cordelia really needs her as a friend.
I read an ARC that I received from NetGalley.com. I really enjoyed the story, which I though was quite original, the characters and the writer's s
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Ahhh this book was so so so cute!! I loved it so much! The author gives these characters such depth and puts a perfect amount of comedy in it. Highly recommend reading this!
I thought The Secret Bridesmaid sounded so cute, but it was maybe too cute for my tastes? I struggle sometimes with UK set romance being a little too cheeky and British, and I think this fell into that category for me. This felt a little more women's fiction and "chick lit" than romance. DNF
Premise
I picked this book convinced this was a romance book an enemy to lovers fake fiancé troope
Enemy to friend it is but this is not romance is chick lit
Nevertheless brilliantly written made me pass a good laughing afternoon. Sophie and Cordelia are definitely something else togheter
Thanks Netgalley for providing an ARC
A rip roaring ride through the trials and tribulations if being a part of a wedding day, even if you also happen to be on the outside. A lesson in love, family and honesty with a cute twist that will kero you turning the page. Was so disappointed when this finished.
Thank you so much @StMartinsPress & @NetGalley for gifting me this eARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 04 May 2021)
SYNOPSIS | Sophie is a professional bridesmaid who will do just about anything to ensure that the bride gets her perfect day. However, when she is hired by a very prestigious family she realises that she may have her work cut out for her as the bride (Cordelia) doesn't actually want a fake bridesmaid & has set it upon herself to be as difficult & demanding as possible to make her quit.
WHAT I LIKED:
- this was utterly charming & feel good read. I didn't realise how much I was missing romcom / chick-lit from my life.
- the humour was exactly my cup of tea
- the mixed media customer service email threads & group text chains had me scoffing out loud on multiple occasions
- the female friendships were really the focus of this story & they were so pure & lovely
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- I would have liked the romance fleshed out a bit more, but I got enough warm & fuzzy feelings from the female friendships
I adored this book! The idea of being a secret bridesmaid as a job was fascinating to me and I couldn't decide if I would like to be one or just have had one at my wedding. Sophie was such a delightfully witty main character and her relationship with Cordelia is one of the best and funniest female enemies to friends that I've ever read. All of the characters are so well-written and their growth is perfectly paced and believable. The romance that develops between Sophie and Tom is sweet and has it's hilarious Hugh Grant/Colin Firth moments. I think this book would make an amazing movie and I'm crossing my fingers for it. All the stars for this charming romcom.
Quick read that keep me engaged fro the start to finish. Characters were very likeable, and this is definitely a book I would recommend for anyone going on a vacation beach read!
It took a couple tries for me to really get into this book - I think because I kept getting distracted by the logistics of Sophie’s job. By the end I cared a lot about the friendship built by the two female leads but I never did get invested in the love story
This book was hilarious but it is not a romance. I feel like that needs to be said right away because NetGalley had this listed as a romance but I really think this was more of a women’s fiction with a little teensy tiny splash of romance.
That being said. It was really funny and a really good story but I wanted more romance!!
I received an eARC of this book from St. Martin’s and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read romance books to lose myself in characters in love for a few hours and The Secret Bridesmaid by Katy Birchall gave me that light, escapist read I've been looking for.
This is a super cute novel about a hired bridesmaid! It was an easy to follow story and had me laughing at times. I read it in two days but did struggle to fully connect with the characters as much as other books like this. I appreciated that it was cleaner romance even though it did have some language.
