Another great Eve Duncan book by Iris Johansen. You would think that this far into a series, there would be nothing new to write about. However, you would be wrong. Ms. Johansen brings suspense and mystery and thriller into her stories.
4.5 stars
The Eve Duncan series continues, this time with another unexpected twist - her husband, Joe's, ex-wife. Diane Connors knows that she has no place in Joe's current happy life, but her own life is in danger, and she desperately needs their help. Another suspenseful and enjoyable read which never forgets the strong bond and love between Joe and Eve.
This book was so incredible! I love this world so much, but Diane hasn't bene mentioned since the first book. To have her as a lead character was just fantastic-I loved the disruptions that she caused in Eve and Joe's lives!
This book brought in Catherine, and it was great to see her again, I think the last book she was in was Vendetta. And Cameron does pop in, because what was going on with Diane was of...interest to him, I'll just say, and how this whole situation affects them, so that's a fun complication to deal with
All I really wanted to know, what was going on with Diane, and why all of this was happening. She doesn't tell us right away, and the first chance we get to learn, she doesn't tell the truth. But when we did find out, well, the action kicked it into high gear!
But one thing I'm wondering about, is what affect this book is going to have on this series! Because I'm wondering if this is going to be the same case of Quicksand. Quinn ended up with the ability's to see ghosts, and then basically that hasn't been seen since. So I'm kinda wondering if what happens in this book will continue in the series or disappear
This was another great book, and I am in just as in love with this series as I was with the first book, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here!
You can’t go wrong with Eve Duncan! Any book that involves her and her expanding friends and family list makes all of these books so good! You know you will be taken on an exciting, interesting story and potentially learn about different areas of the world!
Eve Duncan has agreed to work alongside husband Joe Qqinn's ex-wife Diane Connors. She has discovered a medical miracle that someone would love to take right out of her hands and use it to control and destroy the world. Can Eve and Joe help Diane, despite the ever-present danger facing them?
This story of something that could save lives in a big way could end up in the wrong hands. Along with protecting the invention, Eve's expertise as a forensic sculptor is needed for someone close to Diane. There has been an attempt on Diane's life which ends up keeping Joe on his toes.
The Bullet is the exciting twenty-seventh book in the thrilling Eve Duncan series. Just as the story has Eve and Joe, their gifted son Michael also plays a pivitol role. The story is fast-paced and lives are under severe threat while Diane perfects her discovery. Will everyone involved suvive the danger facing them? This compelling read makes me for than eager for the next book in the series.
Many thanks to Grand Central Publishing and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is the 27th book in the Eve Duncan series. You would think by now it would be old and tired by now but the story keeps getting better. I will say I really do not think these stories can be read as stand alones. I mean I guess if you do not care about the backstory of Eve and Joe you might be able to pick it up but Eve and Joe have had a lot to deal with over the years and this story really needs to have that backstory to help you understand what they could be losing.
In this story Joe’s ex-wife comes back because she needs help and she has no one else to turn to. But this puts Joe and Eve into a perilous situation.
Another great read by Iris Johansen. Any fan of suspense or romantic suspense should already know about this series but if not you need to start because this series will be one of your favorites.
Disclaimer:
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
As a review I haven't consistently read the Even Duncan series just pick up a book when it sounds interesting. The Bullet is Book 27 and bring in the ex wife along with a handful of characters that have been in other books. If I hadn't read a few of the other books in the series I would have been completely lost.
The at times seems like a mess and will have readers wondering where is the story going and why is this person important.
With that being said Iris Johansen always pulls a great story together. Every single has a purpose and the reaction are natural and reactive to the situation that is present to the characters.
Eve Duncan series can be read as stand alone but the long there series continue the more readers will need to read at least several books to understand the cast of characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the a copy of Iris Johansen The Bullet.
Veena’s review of The Bullet (Eve Duncan, Book 27) by Iris Johansen
Romantic Suspense published by Grand Central Publishing 08 Jun 21
Spine-tingling action, an evil so deep and vile that it must be eradicated, and psychic phenomena are all hallmarks of a thriller from Iris Johansen. Add into the mix an ex-wife who has cutting-edge medical research that can save the world, along with a compelling cast of characters old and new, and you have a best seller.
Diane Connors has developed a medical miracle and needs a few critical threads to finish her research and bring it to market. Her enemies have a vested interest in peddling their pharmaceutical cures and preventing a discovery like this from reaching the world. Unfortunately, they are one step ahead of Diane, when she comes to Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn for their help. Did I mention that Diane and Joe were once married?
Catherine Ling, our intrepid CIA agent, is on the job protecting Diane and Richard Cameron, her one-time lover and arch nemesis, who is on the scene keeping an eye on Catherine and Diane. In between all the bodies falling, Catherine and Richard find the time to explore their explosive emotional connection and this one wrings more emotion from Eve and Joe than I’ve seen in a while. Michael, of course, is there throughout the story with his psychic premonitions and warnings.
Sometimes I fear the author is becoming a bit formulaic, but then all the ingredients are mixed together in such a unique way that the story is new and fresh. Regardless, it’s a great ride and worthy read.
Grade: A
Beloved characters, a contemporary plot, adventure, danger, excitement, drama, and the love of a family. Iris Johansen gives Eve Duncan fans another treat!
In The Bullet, Diane has discovered a magic herb that has the possibility to overturn how people are healed forever. But when the discovery is leaked, a billionaire will do anything to keep the breakthrough to himself. Diane goes to her ex-husband, Joe, to ask for help. Joe, Eve, and their ten-year-old son assist despite the threat of their very lives.
This is the twenty-seventh book in this series. I had read two others: the first, way back in the nineties, and the twenty-fifth, a couple of years ago. I had no issue with catching up with Eve in the prior book. But this one required a lot more backstory knowledge that I just didn’t have. It doesn’t work as a standalone. So, fans of the series should check it out. The Bullet might even be a five-star read for you. But for me, it was a slightly confused 4 stars!
Thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Fans of iris Johansen will love this latest addition to her popular series. EveJoe, and Michael are back with a few unexpected twists to their story.. Recommended for anyone who like a little paranormal with their romantic suspense novels.
"Who is John Galt?" Is the question that keeps running through my head as I read this book. One of my favourite books I have read is Atlas Shrugged. John Galt is a mysterious man who is a bit of a psychic. In The Bullet, Cameron returns to this series as a new scientist who meets his criteria pops onto the scene. I really enjoyed this book because Cameron is like John Galt. No hesitation, if John from Atlas Shrugged or Cameron from the Eve Duncan series came to me and said, "I am interested in you and would like you to join me." I would grab my spouse, pets and disappear.
In this latest edition, The Bullet is the mythical panacea that so many hope to discover or create. In a mission of mercy trip, Dr. Diane Connors accidentally discovers a plant that has provided unusual attributes to a specific family. From here on out, it is a race to see who will take ownership of Diane's discovery.
The Eve Duncan series is becoming more and more supernatural instead of contemporary suspense. I kind of like it. Ms. Johansen takes well known concepts and brings it into current events. This one, I especially liked because two of my favourite secondary characters in this series showed up. I like Catherine, the CIA agent who befriended Eve years ago. I also adore Cameron because I like what he's created and in my older age, I'm leaning more towards the world he is creating rather than the one Catherine is trying to defend and protect.
I like how this story made me think about if the world is worth saving. It seems as if there is more chaos and more selfishness. Those in power who should be helping and protecting are instead corrupt and greedy. At what point do we write off the society as a loss and let it implode? Catherine and Cameron's argument is very real and I appreciate Ms. Johansen for blurring the lines and not making one view good and the other bad. It is left up to the reader to decide based on their own experiences and beliefs.
I thoroughly enjoyed this newest addition into the Eve Duncan series. I recommend it to readers who enjoy speculative fiction, suspense and believe in conspiracy groups controlling the world.
The Eve Duncan Series has become a favorite of mine. While I love Eve, I love the other characters she works with or against just as much. In each book I meet new characters and get to be reacquainted with some of my old favorites. Each book stands alone, the book has a definite end so I am never left wondering what will happen next.
The Bullet sends Eve to do a reconstruction on a skull and Joe, of course, goes with her. Trouble finds them, their lives are in danger, and they do what they must just to stay alive. Sounds kind of familiar, if you have read other books in this series, and it is familiar. But I was still unable to stop reading. I knew how it would end but I still needed to read the words and see that all would be okay. There were twists and turns, ups and downs, intriguing relationships, and new friendships that all kept me turning pages.
THE BULLET is an action-packed, emotion-filled storyline that only author Iris Johansen can give her readers.

The Bullet - Iris Johansen
Diane Connors, a trained physician and the ex-wife of Joe Quinn, has stumbled upon what could possibly be a 'panacea' – a treatment that could cure all ills. Equally determined to stop her is Joshua Nalam, a wealthy businessman with ties to pharmaceuticals and the President. After a daring theft of some files, Nalam has set his sights on eliminating Diane – who has no one else to turn to but Eve Duncan & Joe Quinn.
For the past couple of years, Diane has lived on Hakali Island, with Alon, the owner of the land. Alon’s brother Kai has been missing, abducted by Nalam. In a fit of rage, Nalam claimed to have killed Kai and left his body in pieces, in the remote Montana wilderness. Diane is desperate to locate Kai’s body, and with Eve’s assistance in forensic sculpting, to bring Kai home to his brother once and for all.
But from the start, things spiral out of control. An attempt is made on Diane’s life shortly after arriving to Joe & Eve’s hometown, with CIA Agent and close friend Catherine Ling being injured as a result. Joe & Eve’s son Michael, with his unusual psychic abilities, sees blood and darkness all around Diane. As the truth unfolds, it will take all that Joe & Eve can give, to keep Diane and themselves one step ahead of a madman wanting to silence them all…
It’s been a while since I’ve read an Eve Duncan novel, and judging by the current cast of characters, I’ve missed a few novels in the interim! Eve’s sculpting skill, as readers have come to love, is put to work again in this newest adventure, and while the storyline is somewhat predictable (it IS a series after all), the pages are full of the adventure and suspense you’ve come to expect, with a few surprises tossed in as well – all which I suspect will lead to some fascinating future storytelling! A great read - and I’ve you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of Eve Duncan & Joe Quinn, there’s no time like the present to get to know them!
Although I know that series loyalists won't agree, I think that if this was the first, or even the tenth, book in this series I might have been more enthusiastic about it . While I haven't read all the books in Johansen's long-lived series, I've read enough to know the basic formula - and therein lies the problem for me. Packed with action, near-improbable circumstances, people acting in calculatingly evil ways, unlimited stamina and strength, and psychic powers these novels are losing their impact. As most of the characters age, surely the way out of the situations in which they find themselves will have to change. I look forward to seeing how they handle their growing maturity.
This a thrilling read about medical possibilities that will have Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn trying to protect the life of a brilliant scientist, who happens to be Joe's ex-wife. She has made a medical discovery that will have unbelievable medical possibilities.
Diane Connors is a dedicated doctor who has discovered an amazing medical miracle that can have shocking global ramifications if she can live long enough to share her findings. But there are people out there who want those discoveries for their own personal use and will stop at nothing to acquire them.
With nowhere else to turn, Diane finds herself on the doorstep of Joe and Eve asking for their help. She specifically needs Eve's reconstruction skills. Once Eve agrees to help she, Joe and Catherine Ling will find themselves in middle of some powerful enemies.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Bullet by Iris Johansen that I read and reviewed.
This was the latest book in the Eve Duncan series and it added a lot to the past story of Eve and Joe’s relationship and what happened when they were “just friends” so it was a great puzzle to what made Eve and Joe and who they where before they became the super couple they are today.
There also were bad guys they had to chase and a skull Eve had to bring home or else the book would not be complete.
The interesting part of this book was the person they were helping we Joe’s ex wife so that is why we learned so much from the past. Needless to say there were a lot of characters from other Eve Duncan books in the past to that are in this book that help with saving Joe’s ex and the people she needs rescued and Johansen has a lot of sparks going on between everyone. This is a great read that I was not able to put down and read it in one day.
The Bullet gets five out of five stars!
It’s hard to believe that this is number 27! Wow! I’m such a fan of Eve Duncan series.... her facial reconstruction is just such a radical idea and this book delivers quite the thrill.
What did I like? Number 27 but most of the cast is well known which is fun and just like catching up with some old friends. The author really knows how to suck you in and this one did not disappoint.
Would I recommend or buy? This is an easy auto buy author if your familiar with her work. If your not then your missing out. Eve Duncan has become a huge favorite of mine over the years and I never get tired of her or Joe Quinn. The family just keeps growing with more incredible characters and I love them all! An easy five star rating and the best thriller I’ve picked up this year.
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!
Eve Duncan is a forensic sculpturer. She is contacted by her husbands exwife to do a job that can help save the world. It is a page turner and keeps you reading.
