Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read to this book!
I enjoyed this one and I highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this collection. While I have previously read the full books in the past, it was nice to have these versions to revisit the stories many of us previously loved.
What a beautiful collection of Jane Austen novels in audiobook form. The narrator is excellent! I was drawn in by her voice. This is a great way to take in Austen's stories in a fresh way. Highly recommended!
I received an advanced digital copy of this audiobook. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley.com for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
In this abridged collection of vintage recordings, Miss Jane Austen's work are brought to life by the beautiful reading voice of Prunella Scales. It was a delight to listen to.
Highly recommended.
5 out of 5 stars.
I have such mixed feelings on this collection. I didn't realize it was an abridged collection, and I prefer unabridged. That's on me though, so I won't knock a star for that. I should have noticed it was abridged.
The narrator is AMAZING! I love Austen's stories and I feel that Prunella Scales did a fantastic job of bringing them to life with her narration.
For anyone who likes a condensed version of books, this is perfect for you. If you have a hard time with narrators who have a heavy accent, I suggest listening to a sample first to be sure this will be a good fit,
Thank you NetGalley and Harper audio for this Advanced Listening Copy.
Jane Austen's classic story's come to life once more in this audio book. If you loved reading these novels before, prepare to love them even more this time around. The narrator expertly delivers Austen's most famous works in an engaging and enchanting way.
The Jane Austen Collection was such a delight to listen too. I enjoyed these classics greatly. They were abridged audiobook editions and now I’m collecting the physical copies to binge one day soon. The audiobook did echo a little but overall I enjoyed listening to them. I highly recommend. Picking up these classics.
I love Austen and Scales has done a good job of it.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC though I heard the audio version after ARC was archived.
This is an amazing collection. I loved having so many Jane Austen books in one recording. However, the narrator's quality left a lot to be desired. It sounded digitized.
I enjoyed listening to these abridged versions of three Austen classics, and it actually made me want to pick up and read the entire books. Good narrator, although the sound echoed a bit (could be due to digitizing an old recording?).
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Alright audio wise, but not my favorite austen novels lol
These are 3 of my all time favorite books so when I got approved for the audio version I was beyond thrilled. The narrator really brought these 3 to life and I am so happy I got to reread them in this way. I cannot say enough good things!
I just love Jane Austen, every chance I get I like to consume her work.
Thank you so much for this amazing audio production!
I have a set of Jane Austen books I'm reading my way through for the first time. I thought this audio collection would help me read them faster. However, I did not realize the 3 audiobooks were abridged, so I had to read the books before I could listen to the audio, which was not what I expected. This was mostly due to the number of characters Jane introduces us to in each book (and how confusing their names are, like Sir Walter Elliot and Mister Elliot in Persuasion) which made it hard to follow the audio.
I think people who love Jane Austen books already will enjoy this collection narrated by Prunella Scales. Her accent seemed very appropriate for the books and she has different voices for the characters. Listeners will either find it hilarious or annoying how she narrates some of these busy body characters.
Recommended for: Jane Austen fans who like abridged audiobooks with an accent.
Have you noticed how many newly published books are new takes on the classics? I thought this would be the perfect time to reread some classics and what better way than to listen to the audiobook. When I read these classics all those years ago in school, there was the weight of having to read them. And now it was enjoyment.
Prunella Scales did a fabulous job narrating the books, but I am always a sucker for an accent.
These abridged classics are a great refresher for the current retellings. I enjoyed the listen! Perfect choice for a first or reread.
I have mixed feelings on this exact Jane Austen collection that includes: Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Persuasion.
First, I really dislike when publishers take these wonderful books and abridge them. They are not overly long to begin with, especially Persuasion. I would really have preferred that the publishers left the books completely intact. There is so much to be missed in Austen when parts are removed or condensed, For that I would lower the rating of this substantially.
However, I loved the narration by Prunella Scales. I thought she did a fantastic job, and she was so easy to listen to.
I get this is supposed to be a quick edition, but take the little extra time and listen to the books in their entirety. However, Scales voice was top notch, and I cannot wait to listen to her again.
I am giving it 5 stars based on the narrator (because I liked her that much) and not on the fact it was abridged.
I received an advanced audiobook copy from Harper Audio through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
I'm in love with the idea of packaging a collection of one author's works in an audiobook, but I should have done more research before accepting this particular piece for review. First of all, it was abridged, and that made it frustrating to only listen to a portion of the whole story. What really annoyed me though, was the narrator. She has a very thick accent and that, combined with a lack of enunciation and the different voices she does for the characters, made it very difficult to understand what was being said on 2x+ speed, how I normally listen to audiobooks. She was more clear in the 1x, but it was so slow that it was tedious to listen to. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I’m working my way through Jane Austen and enjoying this audio quite a bit! I’ve got through a few of them now. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the audio.
A beautiful narration of some of Jane Austen’s classic books. This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator and I would definitely listen to more by them.
I’ve always loved Austen’s stories and the adaptations but have Always struggled with reading the books. I’ve listened recently and loved the.m
