Having never read any Jane Austen, I was excited to be able to listen to abridged versions of these three. These were very enjoyable and the narrator is delightful.

ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley, but the opinions are my own.

A collection of three of Jane Austen's works, narrated by Prunella Scales. Since Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors - and my favorite author of classic literature. I was thrilled to get an advanced copy of this new audiobook adaptation. Prunella Scales does a marvelous job narrating the stories. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to listen to Austen.

A wonder collection of Austen novels. Great for anyone who wants to experience the classics beyond just reading them.

An Aural Delight

I am a huge Jane Austen fan, and I was delighted to find this audiobook narrated by Prunella Scales at one of my favorite book review sites. Interestingly, I just requested it because it was a narrated version of three of my favorite Jane Austen stories: Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Persuasion. When I opened up the audiobook, I was delighted to see it was narrated by Prunella Scales. While she has a great body of work likely best known in her native Britain, probably most Americans know her as Mrs. Fawlty from Fawlty Towers. From what I understand, this is a remastered version of an old Decca Records recording. The sound quality is fantastic. Ms. Scales did a great job creating different voices. I especially liked her characterization of the Dashwood girls and Emma. If you enjoy Jane Austen's works, you will enjoy them even more as narrated by the very talented Prunella Scales.

Great way to relive Jane Austen classics. Listen on the go or while reading along with the physical books.

I really liked that these three books were condensed on an audio reading. I have read 2 of these Jane Austen books before and especially like Persuasion. I have all 3 books in their full format. So, this was a great way to review these classics again. My problem was the audio reader. Her voice was really kind of difficult to listen to, to the point that I had a hard time enjoying listening. Otherwise, this is a truly great idea.

Thank you, NetGalley and Harper Collins for a copy of this Audio Book.

I have never read any Jane Austen, so I loved this opportunity to hear three Austen tales in an audiobook format! SO so good. 10/10 recommend the audio version as well; it paints a much more vivid picture bringing the words to life. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio William Collins for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Of course the literature is phenomenal. I am an old school Jane Austen fan so the stories are always 5 stars.

This is of course a review of the audio. I enjoyed the narration and thought the tone was very good. Everything was easy to understand and it was fantastic to listen to.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to listen and review.

Of course, I enjoy a good Jane Austen novel as much as anyone and what a delight it was to experience three of them! The author's pace and tone was very much appropriate and I even enjoyed the way she voiced over the characters. The one bothersome thing I found was there was this strange audio feedback, which made it sound like there were two readers at almost the same time, that wouldn't go away.

3.5 stars

I was so excited to see this collection of abridged Jane Austen novels. I have only previously read Pride and Prejudice and I absolutely loved the humor and dry wit that Austen infused her characters with.

These stories were not quite as captivating to me, and I'm not sure if that's because they are abridged or because I listened to the audiobook instead of reading them myself.

I did absolutely love the book Emma. Emma herself was annoying in an entertaining way as she tried (and failed) to play matchmaker over and over. Miss Bates was just as entertaining as the running joke was that she barely breathed between words and clearly defined the word "long-winded". The narrator, Prunella Scales, voiced this flawlessly. In fact, this book alone was worthy of a 5 star rating.

The other two stories, however, were not quite what I was wanting. While there was the same content of 1800s regency, there was little comic relief and I was not as drawn to the characters. Overall, I'm really happy that I read (listened to) these and was able to finally add more Austen to my reading list.

If you're a fan of Jane Austen, you won't want to mix this audio collection that includes Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Persuasion. If you're like me, you've read these books at some point, but wouldn't mind "reading" them again, and the audio version is a perfect way to do that. These remastered versions are amazing not only in quality, but knowing these are some of the original audio versions created for these books. Highly recommend!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for gifting me the audiobook. I absolutely loved it. This is perfect for someone who has a hard time following the actual physical book. This is a great consent version of these three stories. It just gives you the hollywood version of the books. The narrator is really great. I would listen to this again and again.

This is a solid audiobook for some wonderful classic books. The words are clear and the narrator has a very comforting and matching voice to the 3 books featured. This is great for a read along if you tend to struggle with Jane Austin's writing style or to listen to while trying to calm and rest from a long day. I would reccomend this to any Jane Austin fan or someone trying to get into the classics but feels intimidated.

Look, anytime you offer to let me read Jane Austen, I'm in. No questions asked. Of the classic authors still relevant today, she is forever my favourite. Her stories are full of such honest observation, sharp wit, and memorable characters that sweep you off your feet.

I realize I said no questions asked, but I admit I'm rather sad that these are abridged versions. I was expecting the full novels instead of shortened versions. That said, these were spectacularly done. Every important event, detail and conversation is had, and I didn't feel as though I missed any part of the story.

Sense and Sensibility
Not going to lie, I've never quite cared for S&S. That's likely because the Dashwood sisters never quite endeared themselves to me the way Austen's other characters did. As such, it was difficult to like Marianne's flighty-ness and deeply romantic view of the world. Elinor was far more likeable, but she sometimes felt like a secondary character in her own story. Overall, I have very little opinion on this book.

Emma
I'd only read Emma once before, and it is the biggest of Austen's work. However, I have watched the new adaptation four times alone this year, and because of that I think I enjoyed this book so much more. The characters are so delightful, and it's difficult to decide which of the secondary characters I enjoyed more. Emma is so terribly vain and snooty, but it is pulled off well enough to keep her a likeable and worthy character.

Persuasion
Saving the best for last, I see. Persuasion has long been my favourite Austen novel, and listening to this audiobook only made me want to read my physical copy again. I don't what it is about Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth's tale, but it is always exactly what I need. It is a second chance love story that drips in longing and romance.

The narrator, Prunella Scales, did a phenomenal job! The way she worded so many characters and their tones, I felt like I was reliving the movies. She sold every character exactly how they were meant to be. Mrs. Bates is a rapid-fire chatterbox, Colonel Brandon a slower and careful speaker, and Mr. Elliot exactly the kind of snot you might expect. It's too bad we couldn't have swapped S&S out for Pride and Prejudice; then we would have had a true five star read.

Fantastic!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to an advance audiobook.
No matter if you have seen the movies or BBC TV productions of any of Jane Austin's books, there is nothing like having the marvelous Prunella Scales reading Jane Austin to you. Her narration is full of wonderful voices and the proper Queen's English inviting you to join her in these comedies of manners, correctness, and the English class system. You will laugh out loud while admiring the wit and ingeniousness of Austin's fables.
I am now a bonified Jane Austin fan.
