I started reading this book when the election was starting and I got into politics in a way. What I will say is that it is a very interesting topic. I’ve read a couple books about politics and I thought I would like this one, unfortunately I realized it’s not my favorite genre. I do feel that if you are very interested in this sort of topic you will like it.
No doubt this is a worthwhile text for psychology professionals and other scholars. Given the subtitle, Healing from the Trump Presidency, I looked hopefully forward to a title accessible and useful for the average long-suffering citizen.
Much text was devoted to the details of Trump’s mental conditions and hypotheses on their origins. Discussion also included how these conditions manifested themselves in the former ruler’s actions and decisions in the role of President. The author flipped between describing variations on these afflictions and opinions on how they affected common citizens.
While the author provided some anecdotes of how patients overcame slightly similar feelings brought on by slightly similar narcissistic, blame-placing individuals, she did not, in my opinion, deliver advice or solutions for healing from Trump’s presidency.
I am offering a rating of three stars in recognition of the author’s research and source lists and the book’s timely topic.
I requested a free ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review of the book.
Aftermath is a timely text and one that engages a sense of trauma and confusion that many readers face. Karyne E. Messina writes with perspective and expertise.
