I really like the writing style of B A Paris. It was a slow burner but I really connected with the main character i loved the detective side of her. The suspense had me sitting on the edge of my seat.

The Therapist By B. A. Paris

I was so excited to be grated the opportunity to read the latest book by one of my favourite authors.

I loved everything about this book. I was a true edge on your seat thriller.

I could relate with the characters and as soon as one chapter ended, I could not just stop reading.

The drama and suspense are excellent. I could not wait to find out how the book ends
I would like to thank Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Alice is moving in with her boyfriend Leo, a luxury home in Finsbury, London in a gated community called The Circle – Almost sounds like a cult! Right?!

Well not quite…but soon after moving in, Alice finds out that a murder happened in their house! A woman, Nina, who was a Therapist was apparently killed by her husband who then shortly after, killed himself. To make matters worse, Leo knew all about it and did not bother to tell her before they moved in! That rings alarm bells for me already! WTF? I mean I would certainly want to know BEFORE moving in, wouldn’t you?!

Alice wants to know more and wants to clear up with her neighbours that she knew nothing about this prior to moving in… I mean what must they think of her? Moving right on in and making herself at home in the house where their own friend was murdered in her bedroom!
So, Alice starts asking questions, becoming quickly obsessed to find out if perhaps it was someone else, not the woman’s husband, that killed Nina? But the deeper she digs, the more everyone in The Circle become suspects. They all seem to have motives!

Reading this was like time travelling, I flew through the pages quicker than I even realised. An absolute gripping, page turner with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat desperate for answers. And like me, even if you guess right about who did murder Nina, nothing will prepare you for that shocking ending!

A great whodunnit that kept me guessing until the last few pages. When Alice moves into a new home with her boyfriend Leo, she discovers that not only is he keeping secrets from her but that the history of the house has also been hidden from her. With the help of a private investigator and despite the misgivings of her neighbours and friends, Alice tries to find out the secrets of the house and its previous occupant. But not everyone is being honest about who they are...

Alice and Leo move into there dream home in the circle. A gated community in the heart of London.
Not long after moving in Alice finds out that the previous owner was murdered in the home and her partner was the prime suspect.

The murdered women was called Nina and that is the same name as Alice’s deceased sister. Alice soon becomes obsessed with Nina and finding out who killed her.

The more Alice learns she becomes convinced that Nina’s partner was not the killer and that could mean one of the neighbours is a killer.

I love this author and I loved this book.
Once I started this book it was hard to put down. Everyone in the neighbourhood seemed to have some thing to hide and they were all fairly good at lying to protect there secrets and each other.
This book kept me guessing right till the end.
I did find Alice a bit naive and too trusting. There was definitely a few times where I thought how could she have missed the signs.
The other thing I did not like was how quick Alice was ready to move on with another man. Surely that would be the last thing on your mind when you are in the middle of a murder mystery..
This was a faced paced thriller that keeps you guessing.

B.A. Paris books are an auto read for me, I haven’t enjoyed some as much as others but I did really like this one.
Alice and Leo have been seeing each other for over a year and with Leo working in London and travelling to see Alice in the country each week its decided that Alice will move to London. Leo purchases a beautiful house in a gated community at a bargain price which means Alice can keep her beloved cottage. But Leo wasn’t honest about the house history and when Alice finds out, the relationship spirals and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened there.

While I really liked this, I felt at times it did get a bit bogged down and repetitive with Alice’s obsession, Alice also has history which is caught up in this. There was some atmosphere of something not being quite right, just enough to get a feeling but nothing really tense. There were a number of characters in the novel but we really didn’t get to know them at all. It was really all about Alice.
I see this book has mixed reviews and I can understand that. But for me it was something that I didn’t have to think too hard about, it had some slightly tense moments and held my interest throughout.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

B.A. Paris writes novels so suspenseful, I’m scared to even start reading them. Then once I do, I can't stop. The neighborhood setting is a major player in this book. It is equal parts cozy and creepy. Imagine secluded, small town charm in the middle of London. But I just wanted Alice to flee. As she started learning horrible truths and lies about Leo, her new house, and the neighbourhood, I was drawn in to her fear and paranoia. Between her investigations, the feeling that someone is in her room watching her at night, and a warning to trust no one, she slowly uncovers the truth of a murder unsolved and lands right in the path of danger. With a Paris book, I know to immediately start questioning everyone and their motives from page one. Despite knowing that someone is lying and dangerous, I was left guessing until the end of the book. She writes so well and with such tension that I was jumpy and glad I wasn’t home alone that night. An engaging, edge-of-your-seat mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Australia for the opportunity to read this book.

Alice Dawson and her partner Leo Curtis move into an exclusive, quiet enclave in London - The Circle. There are only 12 homes in this gated estate. Leo travels a lot for work and Alice is hoping to make friends. Which she does. Emma and Will, Maria and Tim are very friendly. Tamsin seems hostile to Alice although her husband Conor is friendly enough. And Edward and Lorna, an older couple seem quite reclusive.

Straight away Alice is fretting over everything which is tiresome. But when she learns that one of the previous occupants of her house, Nina Maxwell, was murdered there - she loses it. Angry at Leo for not telling her and too scared to stay in the “murder house” even though the killer, Nina’s husband Oliver, killed himself and is no danger to anyone.

But soon, and spurred on by private investigator, Thomas Grainger, who sneaks around the estate without anyone else seeing him, Alice starts to wonder if Oliver did actually kill Nina or if it was someone else. At one time or another she suspects almost everyone else in the estate. She also starts to feel as if someone has been in the house during the night, watching her sleep, or during the day when she is out, moving things around. She only got invested in the whole Nina thing because her sister, also called Nina, died about 20 years ago.

This story was slow and yet too busy if you can imagine that. There was too much coffee mornings and evening drinkies with irrelevant dialogue. It seemed to me like ideas were just thrown around to fill up pages while nothing much happened apart from Alice’s hand wringing and her alienating the few people who still cared about her! It picked up before the end with a decent twist and a bit of drama but unfortunately I could not really enjoy this one. Thanks to Netgalley, Harlequin Australia and B.A. Paris for the review copy. My opinions are my own.

2.5 stars rounded up for old times sake.

The Therapist is the third book I've read by BA Paris and both others, Bring Me Back and The Dilemma, were edge-of-your-seat reads.

Our main narrator for The Therapist is Alice who's recently moved with her partner into a new enclave in London, called The Circle. It sounds a bit Steptoe Wife-like but it isn't. The couples living there are all quite different albeit slightly insular in the gated community.

I liked Alice and the majority of the narrative unfolds from her point of view. We learn her parents and sister Nina were killed in a car accident over a dozen years earlier. Which goes some way to explaining her reaction to discovering she and Leo are living in the house where a woman named Nina was murdered the year before.

I mean, I get that it's kinda creepy but as Leo her partner reminds her, the house Alice grew up and had been living in (in Harlestone) is a couple of centuries old so would have seen its fair share of death. I found it slightly weird Alice seems more upset by the fact the victim's name was the same as her sister, than about the murder itself. Not to mention (that) Nina's husband suiciding after being accused of her murder.

Alice initially refuses to stay at the house, angry at Leo for not telling her how he was able to buy it for such a low price. The pair have only just moved in together after a long-distance relationship and it certainly doesn't appear it'll last.

Despite her antipathy towards the house, Alice finds herself drawn to Nina's murder after being contacted by a private investigator working on behalf of the husband's sister, who does not believe he killed his wife then himself.

We also meet 'the therapist'. I think readers naturally bond with them as they're our narrator but at times they're a little trite about their work and clients. And we aren't really given any hints as to the timing of their scenes or who they involve. Do we need to pay attention to the therapist, or their clients? And of course we know Nina was a therapist. But is she 'the therapist'?

I couldn't get a handle on Leo and I'm not sure if Paris does this on purpose, keeping him a little secretive and aloof. His job requires him to travel so he's absent for much of the time. His love for Alice seems genuine however, so while we're suspicious of him, there's a sense of sadness that he's mishandled everything so badly.

This probably isn't my favourite of Paris's books, but it's certainly an intriguing read and I did not see the twist coming. I'm not sure readers can predict it all as we're not given all of the information we'd need to solve this, though there are a few hints dropped here and there.

3.5 stars

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

I have read other BA Paris books and enjoyed them. This is not one of them. Unfortunately it's going into the did not finish pile which is why I'm not giving a star rating. Alice is beyond annoying and I found the repetitive nature of the book unreadable.

What. A. Book.

Alice and Leo move into a newly renovated house in a gated community in London. Initially, it seems like the perfect place - safe, and with lovely neighbours. However, Alice soon learns a dark secret about the house and it’s former owner, Nina, a therapist. As she sets about trying to discover more about what happened, she is led to suspect everyone in the community - including Leo.

This book had me guessing until the end. It was so incredibly creepy - there were so many moments where my heart was pounding so hard, it felt like it was going to jump out of my chest! I have to admit, I turned half of the lights in the house on last night when I was reading it as I was just too creeped out! I definitely recommend reading this one if you are after a good, heart stopping thriller!

Every book I read by B A Paris is addictive and I manage to read them in a few sittings ALWAYS. @BA Paris’s newest book ‘The Therapist’ was no exception. I was really excited when I received an ARC for this book due out in 2021 and it did not disappoint. The moment I began reading this book I was hooked and I could not put it down. I started it yesterday and already finished it. This book threw me into Alice’s world and had me suspicious of everyone around her. It was a rollercoaster ride trying to piece it all together and even when I felt like I had put all the pieces in place, another twist occurred. All of Alice’s neighbours and friends seemed to have elements to them that made you feel like they could not be trusted. The story was so engrossing and really has you thinking about the history behind the houses people move into. I highly recommend this book if you love fast paced thrillers with twists and turns. I think this might even be my favourite B A Paris read yet. Thank you to @harlequinaus, @BA Paris and @Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this amazing book before its publication date on the 7th January 2021

My favourite author is back with a new book! I squealed when I was approved to read this a little early and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

From the moment I started this one I couldn’t put it down. In true Paris style the twists and turns had you hanging on the edge of your seat. Alice and Leo have just moved into their newly renovated home in the gated community named the circle.

Alice notices her neighbours are acting weirdly and of them looked at Alice like she was murderer. Little did Alice know that the home her and Leo have just moved into was the place Nina was brutally murdered, her husband Oliver was charged with the murder but not everything thinks he did it.

Alice slowly gets welcomed into the circle and the secrets start unraveling, this place has secrets but so does Leo, is he who he says he is? Nothing is as perfect as it seems.

I’ve been patiently waiting for your this book and I loved every page and am already looking forward to book 6!

⭐⭐⭐⭐Thanks to#netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was very excited to be sent a copy of this book as I have loved all of B.A Paris's previous books with the exception of (The Dilemma) and I think that's more about me than the actual book itself. This one however had me back to remembering why I have this author on my auto-buy list. This book held my attention from the beginning and was atmospheric and had me looking at my own neighbours and wondering just how well I know them. Imagine moving into a new neighbourhood circle only to find that the previous owner was murdered in the house you know own. Worse yet, your partner new this and didn't tell you. What was his connection to this former owner?! This book had me guessing and side eyeing everyone in my own cul-de-sac! #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #litsy #amazonkindle #bookqueen #thriller #baparis #thetherapist

Alice was looking forward to moving into a house in London with her boyfriend Leo. Although reluctant to leave her lovely cosy cottage in a small country village, Leo had been commuting to see her on the weekends for well over a year and it was time for them to be together. The house was in a gated estate of twelve houses built around a circle with a Central Park and playground and Alice was looking forward to getting to know her neighbours. Leo had bought the house at a very good price while Alice was on holiday and sent her photos of it, but he neglected to tell her about something terrible that happened in the house to the previous owners.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. It starts well and I liked the setting of a closed community where people are keeping secrets. However, after the promising start it seemed to go around in circles with Alice trying to grill the neighbours and not really gaining any new ground until close to the end. The characters were all somewhat shadowy and we didn't get to know any of them well, with the exception of Alice. The perpetrator seemed to be the one person Alice naively didn't suspect and I found the reason that this person was unknown to the rest of the community or the police somewhat implausible. The novel did have it's creepy moments but unfortunately they weren't enough to rescue it for me.

Don’t read this one before bedtime - you’ll be kept awake pondering either the supernatural or the many twists in this well written, compelling tale; The characters are immensely appealing and I found myself quite caught up in the relationships. The style is reminiscent of Helen Durrant - a compliment, indeed.

This was a slow burn thriller that had me hooked from the first page! B.A Paris is one of favourite authors, and I'm very happy to say this book did not disappoint.

The characters were fantastic and seemed quite realistic to me. The plot was intriguing from the start, and it was quite unpredictable.

I really enjoyed this one, and I definitely recommend it.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.

A compelling and exciting read, The Therapist by B.A Paris follows the story of a young couple Alice and Leo who have just moved into The Circle together. A nice little gated estate but something isn't right.

Alice learns that Leo is keeping a secret from her, a terrible murder takes place in the home they have moved in to. Alice wants to learn what actually happened the night Nina was killed, did Oliver kill his wife or was something more sinister at play?

B.A Paris has done it yet again. The Therapist ticked all the boxes, it had the right amount of twists and turns and I did not want to put this book down. A must read is physiological thrillers are right up your alley.

Thank you Netgalley, BA Paris and Harlequin Australia for the advanced copy.

Leo and Alice have been having a long distance relationship as Leo travels a lot for his job. They decide to move into together and find a house in a gated community in London called The Circle. It's a bit of a wrench for Alice who leaves her home in the countryside and all her friends.

As she begins to get to know the other residents in The Circle, she finds out that the reason they had been able to afford such a luxurious home in this exclusive area was that a murder had taken place there. A therapist called Nina and her husband Oliver had lived there. Nina was also the name of Alice's sister who died and so Alice becomes a bit obsessed about what had happened to Nina who lived in the house and why.

We get to know the other residents of The Circle along with Alice and their own theories and idiosyncrasies.

A well-structured psychological thriller which keeps the reader intrigued until the very last page.
