This is the second book in the bookish baker series. Teddy St. John is a great main character. She is very relatable. The mystery was great and it took me a while to figure out the killer. I received this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

While Teddie is competing in her local bake off she and several other women are harassed by the local masher, Les Morriss. Teddie and her neighbor Sophie both react to the unwanted behavior. The next day Les is found dead in the coemption tent along side of teddies rolling pin and face down in Sophie's lemon meringue pie. Putting both of them on the prime suspect list.

Teddie is determined to get to the bottom of the crime and clean her name as well as her neighbors. The mystery takes multiple twists and turns. An added feature to the story is that Teddie is a Cancer survivor who has come to grips with the changes it caused her body. There are several references and questions to her double mastectomy. It is dealt with in a straight forward compassionate manner.

I would recommend this . novel to all cozy mystery fans. Think beach read.

It’s the time of year for the annual baking contest and Teddi just knows she’s going to win this year! Everything is fluffy crusts and whipped toppings until the town creep is found face down in a pie with Teddis rolling pin covered in blood. Teddis got to out the killer and quick before she ends up flambéd.

In the last book Teddi was implicated by her signature scarf, this book its her signature rolling pin? Ugh. Make Teddi a more suspicious person! Why is she so trusting?! The reveal about the killer was ludicrous. It was a quick read but I don’t think it was worth it.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Deadly Delights is the second installment in Laura Jensen Walker's Bookish Baker Mystery series. Centered around baker and mystery writer Teddie, this book was jam-packed with sweets and sleuthing almost from the get-go.

Teddie enters the town's equivalent of The British Baking Show and everything is fun and games until the town creep turns up dead in a coconut cream pie. Of course, Teddie was a suspect in the last town murder--she proved herself innocent then and she'll do the same thing now.

This book was just a little too much mystery for me, actually. I didn't think that was possible but apparently starting off with the killing and whodunnit at about 5% into the book is just overkill for me. I need more plot and build up. Maybe there are people out there who like this ratio but for me, I like more fluff in my cozy. However, this book is definitely for all of you super-sleuths out there!

I received a free e-copy from NetGAlley of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have not read a novel by Laura Jensen Walker before, but I will now. In Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin a baking contest is underway. Our heroine Theodora, Teddie to her loved ones, is baking her delicious treats in the hopes of winning. However, the head judge Lester Morris a.k.a Lester the Molester is found with his head bashed in with Teddie's rolling pie as well as stuffed into one of the contestant's pies. Teddie must clear her's and her fellow contestant's name, and hopefully before the killer makes either of them or someone else a target.

I love, love, love Teddie. Her survival, her attitude, and her love of mystery novels and dogs. She wasn't preachy about her breast cancer nor was she overly sentimental about her lack of breasts. She reminded me a little of my mom and her decisions on mastectomy. I also loved that she was smart about investigating the murder. She did what she could to keep herself and others out of trouble.

The murder and the clues i thought flowed up very well. I think the ending was perfect. I was kept guessing as to who the murderer was all the way to the end.

Overall I rate this novel 5 out of 5 stars.

A fun cozy mystery with an abundant cast of quirky characters and enough twists to keep you guessing. Teddie and her fellow Musketeers, plus the eccentric Astrid, her mom Claire, and Brady the sheriff, there is a lot of humor and mystery and baked goods to keep you interested.

Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane books for the arc.

As a baker myself I can smell the delicious delights as I read.

Witty, enjoyable read like a cozy mystery book should read. Characters who make you laugh, you find relatable and enjoy their story make it that much more enjoyable.

This is a quick, easy read It's just the kind of book I need to escape some of the mundane tasks of life. The story of an old time perv and how he is dealt with once and for all. This story has a few twists, but isn't gory or over the top. Les had many dimensions of his life and as they all come up to the surface only one perp is left to suspect, but is it the right suspect? Read to find out!

This is book 2 in the series so be sure to read book 1 before this one. This is a cozy mystery and it’s full of twists and turns and surprises! This isn’t just any ordinary cozy, while I enjoy all of them, this is one that sticks out as better than most! I look forward to reading more of the author’s books and especially hope for more in this series!

This was a captivating cozy mystery with a protagonist who loves sweets as much as I do. Teddie loves to bake and entered a local baking contest with her next door neighbor. One of the judges likes to make passes at every pretty girl, and the townsfolk agree that he's a sleazy man. When he makes a pass at Teddie, she puts him in his place in front of everyone. The next day he's found dead with his head in a pie, and Teddie's bloody rolling pin at his feet. Can Teddie find the truth before someone else's goose gets cooked?
Again, this was a great mystery with an abundance of clues and suspects. I loved the main character's zest for life after going through such pain, and how she's honest with people's questions. The relationship between Teddie and her mom seemed similar to how mothers and daughters can be together. It is very hopeful to see these characters work out their differences. Even though this was a slow read for me, I enjoyed it and would love to read the next installment.
I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Deadly Delights by Laura Jensen Walker
Book #2: A Bookish Baker Mystery

Rating: 4/5 stars

**MINI REVIEW**

The Bottom Line: I liked this installment of the series better than the first. In fact, I found this book to be an easy and entertaining read that took me no time to finish. Teddie has calmed down a bit in this book and doesn’t constantly remind me she doesn’t have boobs. This time around, Teddie is confident in her abilities and sets out to clear her name with no hesitation. In addition to the murder, she has to solve, Teddie also has to deal with her mother and the big secret she seems to be keeping. With life progressing rapidly, Teddie is on top of her game and not willing to let anything or anyone get in the way of her goals. I appreciated the improvements in this book and now feel this is a series I can commit myself to for the long haul.

This second Bookish Baker cozy, set in southeast Wisconsin, is another outstanding book in the series. In this one, baker and cozy mystery author, Teddie is entered into the small town's baking contest and, of course, there's a dead body.

The best part of this series is the outstanding cast of characters. Two books in and they already feel like old friends. I'm looking forward to reading many, many more in this series.

I would definitely recommend this series to any cozy mystery fan.

Deadly Delights, the second book in the A Bookish Baker Mystery by Laura Jensen Walker, is a solid entry. Mystery writer, cancer survivor, and dog mom Teddie St. John enters her small town's baking contest.

Hopeful that her cherry pie will dazzle the judges instead Teddy discovers the head judge, Lester "The Molester" Morris, face down in a competitor's pie, bludgeoned with her heirloom rolling pin, making Teddie the number one suspect.

Teddie and her friends start sleuthing to find the real killer and clear Teddie. Unfortunately, there's no lack of suspects since Lester constantly propositioned Lake Potawatomi's women, getting handsy even with much younger women and cheating on his long-suffering wife.

Deadly Delights has all of the ingredients for a fun series - Teddie is a fun, sometimes impetuous character with a quirky sense of style and a super sweet fur kid, Gracie. A cancer survivor, Teddie doesn't shy away from talking about cancer or her double mastectomy and how it changed her appearance and dating life. She's also relatable with having a difficult relationship with her mom.

Lake Potawatomi exudes small-town charm - everyone knows your name. And who you snuck out to see last night.

Overall, this was a fun, fast-moving read. The included recipes look delicious. I look forward to future books in the series and getting to know Teddie and her friends better.

Former pastry chef, cozy mystery writer, and breast cancer survivor Teddy St. John is back in the second installment of the Bookish Bakery Mysteries. No sooner has Teddy entered the town bake-off when resident lothario and bake-off judge "Lester-the-molester" Morris is found face-down in a pie, with a massive head wound and Teddy's rolling pin beside him. But Teddy isn't the only suspect in Lester the Lech's murder. Was it his long-suffering wife? His son who was set to inherit his father's life insurance money? Or maybe it was his exotic-dancer girlfriend, or one of the countless women he sexually harassed over the years? The list is unending; many in town wanted to to see ol' Lester dead.

This cozy mystery was a light, fun, fast read with likeable characters. I enjoyed it. With the numerous suspects, it was hard to guess the culprit. I hope to see more of Teddy, her adorable dog Gracie, and their small-town companions in the future.

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books, author Laura Jensen Walker, and Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed the story, it had plenty of plot twists. And I like that the main character was so upfront about her health issues. But I never felt any connection with the characters and I found the author constantly adding in what the dog was thinking got to be annoying.

Deadly Delights is a delicious cozy mystery about a woman and her friends trying to solve the mystery of who killed a baking contest judge. The victim is a horrible person so there are numerous suspects. The group delves into the mystery with each taking a suspect and then comparing notes. The main character is a strong and hilarious woman who is also a cozy mystery writer. It is a solid mystery with great characters and lots of treats baked along the way.

Anytime there is a mystery that revolves around baking, I'm already interested before opening the cover and the story didn't disappoint.

I really liked Teddie as I read the first book in the series and I'm glad that we get to learn a little more about her and her relationships as they are evolving. The mystery kept me guessing and I enjoyed meeting more of her friends in Lake Potawatomi.

It was nice easy read that kept me up way too late at night.

I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

In Laura Jensen Walker's second Bookish Baker Mystery, writer and amateur baker Teddie St. John enters a baking contest in her small town of Lake Potowatomi, Wisconsin. Teddie discovers the body of one of the contest judges, womanizing Les Morris, murdered by her grandmother's rolling pin. Of course, Teddie and her dog, Gracie, have to investigate to clear Teddie's name from suspicion.

I was bound to enjoy this book as it features two of my favorite things: baking and books. As an avid fan of The Great British Bake Off, I appreciated the frequent allusions to the show and its judge, Paul Hollywood. The first book in the series goes more in depth into Teddie's experience working as an author, and I look forward to reading more about her writing career as the series continues.

Teddie is an absolutely delightful heroine. It is clear that she is imperfect and has a tendency to put her foot in her mouth, but she has a big heart and is devoted to her family and friends. She is a cancer survivor who has accepted her body post-treatment, which is admirable. Her devotion to her American Eskimo, Gracie, also endears her to this dog owner. She had me rooting for her to solve the case throughout the story.

Walker does an excellent job creating the community of Lake Potowatomi. The reader is drawn into the small town and gets a strong sense of the many different personalities in the town including the town gossip, Wilma, and Jeffrey, an artist who does a nude sculpture of Teddie's mom.

The mystery kept me engaged as well. I was trying to figure out the murderer's identity as I read, and Walker both included foreshadowing and deliberate misleading clues to the ending.

Deadly Delights was a fun and quick read that reminded me why I love cozy mysteries so much. I am excited to read the continued adventures of Teddie and Gracie.
