What a fun read! I enjoyed this book so much-it kept me so engaged that I read it in one day. With all the hard things that are going on in our world right now, it was lovely to escape for a while.

I was drawn to Duvet Day due to a single line in the blurb:

-Young lawyer Alexa Humphries’s one true love is her precious duvet

Many years ago, Queen J and I took a vacation where we first encountered what we called the “cloud bed,” and the memory of that duvet has stayed with us since.

In Duvet Day, Alexa is struggling with stress and feeling overworked as a junior lawyer, so one day she just can’t get out of bed and calls in sick. After a series of unfortunate events, she gets locked out of her house while wearing her unicorn onesie pajamas. She discovers her previously unmet housemate Sam is not a woman (as she thought) when he photographs her at a climate change protest.

What next happens is some ridiculous, over-the-top antics as she tries to get replacement keys before her other lawyer housemate can find out she was playing hooky. Duvet Day was funny and easy with a hint of romance. It was very fast paced – the entire story is over the course of a single day – but was still enjoyable and easy to read.

I am sorry to say that I did not finish this book. I do not know if it was the storyline, or the writing. I tried very hard to get into the story, but it just did not hold my interest, I tried binge reading, and leaving a few days in between returning to it, but still it did not command my attention

This had me laughing out loud throughout as I followed Alexa on her duvet day. I loved her relationship with Sam and felt that some of the supporting characters were brilliant additions to the story. The strong message about taking care of your mental health came across clearly, and I loved how seeing London differently whilst she tracked down the spare keys, enabled Alexa to take some difficult decisions in the ever discussed work life balance.

Everyone needs a duvet day when facing the world becomes a bit too much. But what was supposed to be a day in bed focusing on self-care and Netflix, becomes a day of having unexpected adventures in a unicorn onesie, when Alexa accidently gets locked out of the house.

Alexa drove me mad, she did not need to go to such extreme measures to get her housemates keys and her housemates were the most selfish and unhelpful individuals. Her crazy adventures and finding herself along the way made for a good story, but I think the book needs to be marketed more as a duvet day gone wrong.

A light hearted, comical, diary style account of Alexa's day when she throws a "sickie" off work. It reminded me of a Carry On film, full of innocent mishaps, and anything that you could imagine happening, does, and even things that you could never imagine happening, does! Some of the stuff that happens is a bit far fetched, and did leave me thinking - really?! Hence why this didn't make the full five stars in my personal opinion, but please do not let this put you off reading.

If you are looking for a laugh out loud read, that is a perfect for a pick me up, or mood boost, then this is definitely the book for you...although be prepared you may wish to purchase a fluffy unicorn onesie by the end of it, (if you know, you know!)

A cute rom-com adventure story in the vain of Sophie Kinsella set in the UK.

While parts of the story dragged a bit, I still enjoyed Alexa's adventures on her mental health day.

Special thanks to NetGalley for the eARC

Alexa Humphries wakes up every morning wrapped in a warm cuddle with her one true love - her duvet. It's the one place she is just simply Alexa before she gets up and becomes Alexa the sensible, grown up lawyer. Unfortunately between the endless demands of her job, her neurotic boss and unhealthily competitive colleague/flatmate, she doesn't get to spend much time sleeping, and definitely doesn't have anyone to share her duvet with.

But today she can't. She simply can't deal with getting up and putting on a face she hardly recognises in the mirror. She just wants to stay in bed, turn off her phone and have a duvet day. Because everyone deserves a break, right?

When I picked up this book, I didn't think a story about someone taking a day off work could really be that interesting - but oh was I wrong.

This book is not at all what it seems - an hilariously chaotic adventure full of mishaps and unicorn onesies. I read the entire thing in one sitting in my own fluffy slippers and I soon ran out of pages.

I loved Alexa from the moment I met her - aside from being so funny and sweet, she called out to me in some painfully familiar ways. The perfect representation of everyone who's ever worked themselves into the ground and still been taught to feel guilty about needing time to pick yourself back up. She was stuck in a rut and not at all where she'd hoped to be - but she's getting there.

Duvet Day is a feel-good, hilarious story that is perfect for your own duvet day.

The book was fine and I definitely enjoyed certain parts, but overall it felt both too fast paced and dragging. And yes, I know that those are contradictory. I think for me, there was just too much happening in too little time. As for Alexa, I really wasn't feeling her, I thought she was really selfish and annoying, and. that didn't change throughout the book. I kinda only liked the part where she was actually helping people out.

As a law student, this book really hit home with me, especially in the middle of a pandemic. In Duvet Day, the protagonist is a high powered lawyer who decides that instead of going in to work one morning, she is going to call in sick to work and stay under her duvet and hang out all day. However, things do NOT go to plan and she ends up locked out of her house. Alexa is a relatable character, at least from my viewpoint, because she is overworked, anxious, and needs a break. This book will probably hit close to home for a lot of people in our situations right now, and I think it will help us realise the importance of taking time for yourself, and having a break. I utterly enjoyed the book, reading it was sheer enjoyment, and I would suggest it to anyone who is interested in a feel-good book that will make you have faith in the world again.

A but slapstick but fun. Alexa needs a day off and she's all set to just lie around and eat Nutella and watch tv. Unfortunately, she signs for a package for one of her room mates- Sam- and finds herself locked out. And wearing a truly bad onesie and slippers. She can't tell her other room mate, Zara, who is her competition at work so she must find Sam, who, btw, she's never met. Implausible as can be scenario that she would run around London this way but here we are - and I read the whole thing. Of course there's a little romance too. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Read it for a laugh.

Alexa is overworked and exhausted. As a young lawyer trying to crawl up the ladder in her firm, she has zero time for anything outside of work. One day she just can't do it anymore and takes a sick day. Her roommate Zara also works at her firm and spies on Alexa in hopes to get ahead. Because of this, Alexa has to be very careful and truly pretend to be sick when her roommate gets home. Due to a series of unfortunate events, Alexa is locked outside in a unicorn onesie and desperately needs to get back in before her roommate is home.

I tried. I did. But unfortunately I ended up skimming the last 20% of the book. The things she gets involved in are sometimes so cringy I couldn't get into it. Some are also so unbelievable it makes the story that much harder to get into. I realize its really hard.to write a whole book based off of one day, but this one seemed.never ending. The internal dialogue was sometjmes pages and pages long and by the time she got done speaking to herself I'd forget what she was doing and have to flip back. And Sam. I understand Alexa was a bit annoying at times, but he was just an unnecessary a-hole and the fact she just happily started to fall in love and want to date him at the end forgetting his earlier behavior blew my mind. You have to look at how a person treats the worst person in their life because if you end up breaking up he'll probably treat you the same.

⭐⭐

There were decent parts throughout and I understand what the author was trying to do but it went on far too long and the cringe and outrageousness was a bit too much for me.

Thank you NetGalley, Emily Kerr and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC of Duvet Day. This is my personal review.
What Alexa had hoped to be a stay in her pajamas and stay in bed all day eating junk food and binge-watching Netflix to restart herself. All her plans changed when she signed for a package for her roommate and ended up being locked out of her apartment. Trying to find keys to get back in takes her on adventures that gave me a few chuckles as I read.
This was an easy read and gave me a few hours of lighthearted reading.

This book is lauded as a romantic comedy but sadly it missed the mark for me. Romantic – yes, comedy – no. I suppose our hero got in some funny situations when she decided to pull a ‘sickie’ and then got locked out of her house (not predictable at all), but I never felt the need to laugh out loud.

I do apologise to Ms Kerr for a negative revue and I must be honest, maybe I am just having an off day, but unfortunately I skim read the last 15% of the book – something I rarely do.

Just not my sort of book at this particular time. To be fair though, it is well written, just a bit too predictable.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

Oh boy. So. I picked up this book because I've had a pretty hectic and few months and a Duvet Day sounds like heaven right now. I don't quite know what I was expecting - something soothing, presumably - but it definitely wasn't what I got.

Alexa is stressed beyond measure and decides to call in sick to her extremely intense legal job. It's the sort of job where you don't call in sick unless you are in hospital, so she intends to lay low and do no more than sleep and watch NetFlix. Except then a delivery guy shows up with a parcel for her as-yet-unmet flatmate, and in opening the door, she locks herself out. Wearing nothing but a unicorn onesie.

So she goes in search of the unknown flatmate to see if she can borrow his keys, because she doesn't want the other flatmate to know (the other flatmate is her colleague and determined to undermine her in general). And winds up on a bicycle, in a climate protest, being photographed by a tabloid journalist, whom she then needs to pursue to stop him from publishing her photo in the paper.

And on it goes. Alexa winds up in one improbable predicament after another all day. All wearing a unicorn onesie. There are taxi chases, bullies foiled, fake pregnancies, accidental heroism and genuine kindness. There is also a bit of a romance.

I think for a different reader, this would have been a whimsical and hilarious romantic comedy. Alas, for me, it was like a particularly detailed anxiety dream. The stakes were just too high for me to enjoy it. I spent the whole book worrying about Alexa losing her job and her flat, and bracing myself constantly in anticipation of an awful confrontation.

Ultimately, I'm not sure if the fault is in the book or in the reader, but this is probably not a book I'd recommend to a somewhat anxious person!

If you're looking for something light and uplifting to read you could go further wrong than Emily Kerr's Duvet Day. It's the story of a VERY unusual day in Alexa's life and it's pacey and witty and a page-turner. But it's definitely best read as fantasy or else with a huge dollop of suspension of disbelief!

Duvet Day by Emily Kerr

Alexa decides to call in sick to work when she wakes up to an overwhelming sense of dread. Her job has become a nightmare filled with stress and fear of failing. Her lovely day in bed takes several unexpected turns and she ends up having an adventurous day through London while still dressed in her pjs.

This was such a fun and delightful read! Alexa is so charming and relatable. I really enjoyed the other characters and found all the twists and turns of her day to be hilarious and also heart warming.

Duvet Day would make a great rom com movie. Set within the same exhausting day, it occasionally felt long, but it was still so ridiculous a situation that I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended.

Thank you to @onemorechapterhc for my advanced copy! Out on May 27th.

A lovely read about how work can take over every hour of everyday and you feel like your life is a huge weight on your shoulders.. However this one morning, Alexia’s body just doesn’t want to move so she decides to pull a sick day. But she certainly doesn’t expect her day to have sooo much drama. But Alexia realises that life is for living, a wonderful romcom.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'm really sorry I couldn't give this one a higher rating. It was probably just me, as lots of reviewers have rated it higher...
It was just a bit slow and didn't have much interesting banter, with most of the story being Alexa's thoughts. Which is fine normally, but when it only spans one day, if feels a bit monotonous.

This was a fun eventful adventure of a sick day gone bad (or good depending on the way you look at it).

The story reminded me of a romantic comedy that could easily be seen on screen as it takes place over the course of a day. It was a quick read that also had a quick pace considering the amount of things that happened over the span of a day.

This was an okay and fun read but nothing more than that. It was not a memorable story and for the most part, everything about it was average. I think it can be difficult to become invested in a story and the characters when it's such a short timeline but it was still a fun read.
