A great learning source for kids! This book of 1000 science words really held all that. Words from the playground, to the science room, to words about the earth, and just about anything you could think of. We really enjoyed going over this whole book, it had so many words to offer. I was especially happy to see it include some pages on math, such as adding and subtracting and multiplication. I always enjoy these DK books and I think this is a really great book for young children and I would be more than happy to add this to our library!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
“1000 Words: Science” is a very cute science reference book for primary students, grades K-2. Filled with visuals that connect related concepts is a great way to connect what primary students already know about the world to what they are yet to learn about. Engaging and fun.
This book is designed to be shared by a child and adult. However, the text is very brief and doesn’t do enough to highlight the nature of science—how science is based on wondering, problem solving, carefully observing, and at times revising our ideas based on our observations. This book highlights vocabulary words children might need in the future, instead of helping them make the connections they need today.
The words and pictures were perfect for beginning readers. Hope to get a copy for my son, he would love it.
This is an okay picture book of science words for very young children. In some cases, it is confusing, since it labels parts of the pictures the same whether they are nouns, verbs or concepts. The child will really need an adult there to explain. Some of the words are not really science other than as a stretch, like those in the cooking pages and math pages, but it all sort of relates to science. Lots of relevant science words are omitted, while lots of rather irrelevant words are included. Many of the words are filler and are very basic words. I felt like it could have been much better executed, but some children may enjoy looking through it.
Rounded up from 2 1/2 stars for me.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
