Chickens are one of my favorite animals, and this was a really cute book to introduce them to kids. The cover is gorgeous as well--I want a print for my kitchen!

I requested this book because we live on a farm with chickens and love to learn as much as we can about them. We also participate in 4-H so my kids could use this as an educational tool for their poultry project. I loved that the book was packed with all kinds of information about our chicken friends. I liked the information on the different breeds and on their specific body parts and feathers. It was very helpful with educating my boys (and myself) on some of the things we didn't know about chickens.

Lots of Easily Digestible Chicken Information

While this book is certainly geared for children, adults can certainly learn from it as well. Like all well-done children's nonfiction, the text is simple yet engaging, and the illustrations have bright colors that make it visually appealing. The author managed to cram this book FULL of information about chickens, including details about specific parts (like the varieties of combs and feathers), proper names of chicken parts inside and out, parts of the egg, and even specific chicken breeds. If you are considering getting chickens, or already have some, it would be a great book to read to or with your children... all of you will learn something! The only thing I wish the book had that it doesn't is some photos of actual chickens. Chickens are only depicted as cartoon-like illustrations. Many colorful breeds are highlighted throughout the book and at the end second specifically on breeds. It would have been nice to see what these birds actually look like. If your family or your child has any interest in chickens, I recommend picking this book up.

I have always been fascinated with chickens ever since one pecked me when I was a child. My Mom warned me not to stick my fingers through the fence. As an adult, I would love to own chickens someday. This book talks about everything chicken. From eggs to feathers and so much more. The book even goes into their history and how to take care of them. Beautifully colored illustrations that I really loved. I highly recommend this book for chicken lovers of all ages. Thanks so much #netgalley for an early review copy. I just loved it.

Enjoyed this book which offers a great deal of information about Chicken breeds, habits, attributes and lore. I must admit it made me want to keep chickens for pets and eggs, especially the Silkie whose feathers look and feel like cat fur! The text style is informational with clear, cogent descriptions, along with fun facts. The illustrations are delightfully colorful and fun, giving the chickens lots of personality. I think most children would love learning about chickens in this book as it is both scientific and fanciful. A great follow up to the book Chickens Aren't the Only Ones, which my children enjoyed 20 years ago.

I'm so happy about this book! For the past few years my family and I have been thinking about getting chickens and this was a great crash course on chickens. I was really happy about everything this book had to offer. It included anatomy, the many different breeds, the history of chickens in the world, how to take care of chickens, even information on chickens in stories. My kids loved the illustrations and they enjoyed everything about this book as well. A treasure trove of information on chickens and I am all here for it! This book would be a great addition to anyone interested in learning more about chickens, especially if it is a family with children.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

I didn't realize there was even this much to know about chickens - I mean, I grew up out in the country, and I know that chickens come in different colors and such but, honestly, that's the extent of my chicken knowledge. This book, while aimed for a younger crowd, is extremely detailed and informative - it's a great introduction to chickens if you, like me, lack any real knowledge of chickens, besides knowing that they're delicious and they make eggs (also delicious).

A super fun read for any children interested in chickens, farms, or gardens. This would also be a great book to read with your kids if thinking about adding chickens to your farm. CHICKENOLOGY is a book I would add to my informative texts selection in my classroom library.

Chickenology is a fun and information rich homage to the humble chicken. Due out 2nd Feb 2021 from Princeton Architectural Press, it's 80 pages and will be available in hardcover format.

This is a whimsically illustrated and well presented fact based book with an impressive amount of information. Aimed at young readers, the text is easy to understand. The short informational subchapters are arranged thematically: general information, anatomy and physiology, eggs, human/chicken interaction, and some breed info (with illustrations).

For a very short book, there's a lot of info packed into the pages. The illustrations are colorful and appealing. Most of the pages contain small snippets of info in easily digestible capsule illustrations. Though the text is simple and easy to read, the authors have managed to provide correct anatomic descriptions and terms as well as proper nomenclature for the species. The book doesn't include an index, but it's a short book and the table of contents is complete and with chapter descriptions. There are no photographs included, but the illustrations are well done and clear.

This would be a superlative selection for school/classroom use, home and remote schooling situations, scouting or activities groups, as well as animal keen youngsters. Nine year old me would've absolutely loved this book.

Five stars. Simple and fun.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Chickenology is such a fun, informing, and visually pleasing read for any young reader! My three your old loved the bright and bold illustrations while my six year old and myself both loved learning everything this book has to offer about chickens. From eggs and feathers to anatomy and how their brains have more neurons than most mammals, there are so many very interesting facts in this child’s encyclopedia. This book is a must-have for any homeschooling or homesteading parent, and I can easily see this book put to use in a classroom during a farm or bird learning activity. I definitely recommend this book for any parent of an elementary aged child, or a child who just loves chickens!

This is an excellent, lively and colourful guide to chickens of the world. We learn what their different feathers and bone and body parts are called; where they originated and how they grow. We see many breeds and colours, a suitable henhouse and outdoor run. No photos as this book is entirely composed of artwork with accompanying or in-graphic text.

I suggest the book is good for anyone from ten or twelve upwards, also for adults thinking of embarking on backyard chicken keeping.

I downloaded an e-ARC from Net Galley. This is an unbiased review.

I have been longing for backyard chickens for quite a while, but my city won't permit them. This book may just be the next best thing. I learned so much about chickens! This book covers everything from breeds of chickens, the structure and function of various types of feathers (including close-up illustrations), how chickens evolved and became domesticated, the types of illnesses that plague them, and even the role that chickens have played in stories throughout history. The book also includes facts about eggs. I finally learned which came first - the chicken or the egg! This book was a major hit with me!

Chicken. Who doesn't know it? But who knows that chicken got so much varieties? From feather, beak, size, there are so many of them. This book contains so many interesting facts about chicken without being a chicken professor. Can be enjoyed by all ages (well, I do, eventhough this is a book for children,) this is a must have book, mostly during confinement time like this, so the kids can observe chicken more.

My grandparents had chickens when I was young. I have a small backyard flock. It is very discouraging to have children ask questions that I can't readily answer to their level of understanding.

Chickenology has changed that. The "flock" of children in and around my household have all declared this book a winner full of more information than they could have ever asked.....that's 4 yr old logic. Full of facts but also presented in a fun, entertaining manner that kept the children amused and READING!!!! What a great accomplishment for any author.

This was another book that was difficult to see well digitally, but I could see enough to tell that the illustrations are amazing and that my kids and a few friends would LOVE this book. I can’t wait until it comes out!

Warning: this is not a book that respects chickens. This book has a two page spread of different chickens’ eggs shown cooked and prepared for humans to eat.
I chose to check out this book because I am an animal advocate and it appeared to be animal friendly, recognizing that chickens have personalities. However, after seeing that the authors believe chickens are here for humans to use I was not able to finish. Chickens’ eggs belong to them and should not be stolen to be eaten by humans. Eggs are also very unhealthy for humans to eat.
I do not recommend this book as it is not forward thinking.

Thank you to Barbara Sandri, Francesco Giubbilini, Camilla Pintonato, Princeton Architectural Press, and #NetGallery for an ARC of #Chickenology in exchange for an honest review.
