As a ghost hunter and a fan of Phantom I enjoyed this for what it was! A fun story with a neat premise, give me more paranormal please!

I’ve been in a very long reading slump but this book kept my attention rapt enough to finish and lug it around with me. Definitely recommend to those who enjoy the more paranormal and gothic type of story.

A unique take on Phantom Of The Opera, without diverting too much from the original material.

I really enjoyed the characters. Lucas and his group of paranormal investigators were an awesome addition that added much needed comedy and lightened the mood.

The masks were also an amazing addition to the story.

I'm not too familiar with anything Phantom of the Opera. Just very vaguely. So I completely went into this book blind. And, well, let's say I didn't hate it. I was more or less . . . confused? I couldn't follow along with the multiple names/masks of Erik (I think?)

There was a mention of a curse inside the house, but unless I completely missed it -- it was never mentioned, and I'm not even sure it was "broken?" I was trying so hard to follow along, I swear. Eventually I just felt like I was simply reading the words and there was no purpose to the story.

One thing I can definitely say is I loved the friendships formed by the gang. Stephanie had herself quite a group that had her back when she got trapped in the house. They were funny at inappropriate times, and as a person who does that themselves . . . I appreciated that and giggled a few times.

Definitely recommend to those who enjoy the more paranormal and gothic type of story.

I love Phantom of the Opera, so I was excited to give this story inspired by it a read! It's not a straight retelling, but many of the elements are there. I loved so much about this, the dual nature of the house, the SPOoky squad, the fractured soul of Erik and how that was represented. I would actually be interested in some future stories based on the adventures of the SPOoky squad, now that they're getting some more cases!

An excellent take on Leroux's Phantom of the Opera for fans of the book, movies, and theater productions. I was thrilled to have the ability to read one of my favorite stories in a new way. Readers will be unable to close the book as the story keeps you going and the mysteries keep unraveling.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy for review.

Oh I really really liked this one! It was a pretty unique take on Phantom of the Opera while still being true to the source material. The gothic haunted Victorian is the perfect setting for this. Stephanie and her family (dad and sister Charlie) move in to flip the house, however Charlie is adamant there is a ghost that wants them to leave. Stephanie doesn't believe in ghosts...until handsome Erik starts visiting her in her dreams. That and her living in a famously haunted house has attracted the attention of SPOoKy, the local teenage ghost busters. I feel like everything I loved will be a spoiler so this is gonna be vague probably.

I really enjoyed the characters. Lucas and his group of paranormal investigators were a great addition. They provided some laughs and release from the tension. Erik was so wonderfully written. The balance between human and madness was perfect. The masks were such a cool aspect too. I really didn't expect the ending we got, but I thought it was such a sweet ending and worked really well. This says it's #1 so I am really hoping to get another one with these characters. If you like (or are obsessed like me) with Phantom of the Opera I recommend picking this one up.

Back in my early days of book blogging, one of the books I was absolutely obsessed with was Nevermore by Kelly Creagh. While I did not love how that trilogy ended, when I saw Creagh was coming out with Phantom Heart, I was SO excited. After all, if I was so obsessed back then, maybe I would also be obsessed now. Turns out though, I was not. Maybe it is just me and how much my life has changed since reading Nevermore, but I just did not feel a big spark with Phantom Heart. I actually ended up taking it off my Christmas wish list.

Phantom Heart is a unique take on The Phantom Of The Opera. Main character Stephanie has moved with her dad and little sister Charlie to an old victorian house in Kentucky. Her dad flips houses and then sells them. Before the houses sell though, the family lives in them while the conducting the restoration. It turns out the house being restored is called Moldavia and it has a history. Also, it is haunted. So, Stephanie gets caught up in a love triangle between Lucas, who is in a paranormal club and Erik, the masked figure haunting Moldavia. Who will she pick? Will Moldavia be cleared of spirits?

Okay, so number one, I loved that Syracuse makes an appearance in this book. That part was actually exciting because it is where I live. But even that was not enough to keep me excited for this book. So, to be totally honest with you — the pacing is so darn slow. It feels like it takes forever for something to happen. And then the primary romance is just so unhealthy. I really disliked the choice that Stephanie made. It feels like a very 2010 choice reading this book in 2021. I was able to read this whole book without DNFing, but I think nostalgia was a big factor that kept me reading. Also, I did like the setting. The author has a real talent for transporting the reader. It just wasn’t enough to win me over.

Having been such a huge fan of creagh's first trilogy really thought that I was going to absolutely love this one. While I do think that people who are looking for a good, angsty YA will end up enjoying this book, it just want for me. The pacing was definitely off and at times felt rushed and other times it felt like it dragged on and on.

First, I'd like to thank the publisher for an uncorrected proof via Netgalley in exchange for this honest review.

Phantom Heart starts off fascinating and incredibly atmospheric. The haunted house, the witty protagonist, the ghost hunters. It was neat, unfortunately, the romance elements were really weak and disturbing.

I don't know the source material (The Phantom of the Opera), so I'm not sure how much of this romance deviates from it, but it had me cringing, especially in the last third of the book.

That on top of a writing style that felt stilted, slow pacing and being too long in general, I don't think this book or it's sequel is for me.

Fans of retellings and Phantom of the Opera are going to love this one! Filled with mystery, secrets, brooding characters, romance and a very spooky house Phantom Heart is not to be missed! Although a bit hard to follow at times I really enjoyed this spooky tale and I'm sure other readers will too!

A phantom of the opera retelling involving a family that takes over an old house to renovate it. There’s a sinister character residing in the house with his own agenda and many secrets. Stephanie and her family are just trying to renovate and deal with their own tragedies and secrets.
I personally couldn’t get into it. I was so excited for the retelling but I was very confused by many parts -especially the curse.

Sigh. This could have been a fun take on the Phantom but... well... I just didn't care. Stephanie was relatively one note, despite the action ratcheting up regarding the house. The Lucas/Erik/Stephannie love triangle was actually boring! Not to mention the masks not ever been completely explained, or perhaps that's for Book Two?

I'd like to thank the people at Penguin and the author herself for allowing me to read this book.

Phantom Heart is a solid reinterpretation of the book, Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. I enjoyed reading the updates for a modern audience and I loved reading the new twists and spins that Kelly gave to the story. Being familiar with her previous work, I knew this was going to be something special and interesting.

I think a lot of young readers will find the writing for the teens to be very age appropriate. I also think the paranormal aspect of a ghost haunting the house and the Paranormal Society comprised of a couple teens wanting to scoop out the house will be of interest as well.

I did have some issues with the book that I think some readers may have issues with as well. Most hinder around the curse and or the way it came across in the book. It was something that required me to do some further touch and base with the author that made sense when she explained it to me. Yet, I still think that if I didn't really follow it that well others may have issue too.

I still really enjoyed it, and I found that it was a strong nod to the original novel. If you're a fan of Susan Kay's Phantom you will also enjoy this. It has romance and gothic tones and perfect for a YA audience who are unfamiliar with the original book and or looking to dab their feet into something paranormal.
