Angie has a local farm to table restaurant, The County Seat, in Idaho. While she is serving up fresh, home cooked meals a soybean processing plant is trying to buy out all the land near Angie's farm. The farm that her Nona left her. Angie doesn't want to sell. While Angie is dealing with this, her friend Barb, asks her to help find her missing daughter.
I have not read the first 4 books in this series yet, but thoroughly enjoyed this one. I am looking forward to going back and reading the background on the characters so I will be up to date before the next book.
This was a wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon and I must thank NetGalley, Kensinton Books and Lynn Calhoon for the chance to read this book in return for a fair, honest review.
A missing woman, a threatening ex, potentially loosing her home and an ill neighbor are all on the menu for the County Seat gang in this book and just when they thought it couldn't get worse, a dead body gets tossed into the mix! Once again Angie is pressed into investigation mode, but she may not make through this one as it seems someone is either willing to kill to keep things quiet or kill to get her home! Excellent characters with a plot layered with individual storylines that entwine to make one very cohesive and tasty mystery! I absolutely love the cast of characters and can't wait to visit Idaho again in the next book! This series is especially close to my heart as I used to live in Idaho and love seeing the names of places I recognize being mentioned! Makes me miss the area all that much more!
These are very enjoyable characters. I like the town setting and the interactions between the different characters. They continue to grow and move forward in their lives. The mystery kept me guessing.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and Kensington Books.
I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Soybeans can be deadly as Angie soon finds out. When a soybean processing plant starts to buy up farm land near her beloved Nona’s home, she is put to a ringer as to what is important.
Rumors about the shady lawyer who is handling the buyouts soon surface and hen his wife goes missing Angie at first does not want to get involved until Barb tells her about her connection. Will she be able to solve things or will she be a statistic?
Enjoyable plot with interesting characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for a copy of "Killer Comfort Food" in exchange for my honest review.
This was our 5th visit to the County Seat in River Vista, Idaho - the restaurant co-owned by Angie Turner and her best friend Felicia Williams. As usual Angie gets involved in a mystery without even really trying to. They just seem to fall into her lap. All the favourite people are back - Ian her boyfriend, Sheriff Allen Brown, his wife Maggie and in the kitchen - Estebe, Matt, Hope, Nancy and Bleak. Getting starring roles are the "zoo" Dom, the Saint Bernard, Mabel, the elderly black & white hen, and Precious, the goat.
This story takes place where the last one left off, with property developers buying up property so that a soybean project can get off the ground. Locals feel that it would benefit them not only the construction jobs but later the running of the plant. There are other viable properties in the area and Angie feels that they should be looking into those instead of taking away her beloved farmhouse where she has all her memories of Nona - the grandmother who gave her the love of cooking.
What ties Barb Travis' daughter Susan "sunny" Ansley and an unidentified woman together - besides the fact that both are missing? Susan's husband Jon is a solicitor for the soybean plant developers. Things hit very close to home when Angie's "family" is threatened.
The theme that runs through the Farm-to-Fork series is that "family" is important and it is not always what a traditional family is. Family is the people you care about - whether you are related or not. Family is also the animals that work their way into your heart and you'd do anything to protect them as well.
This book ended perfectly with an open end to the next book - one that I am once again very much looking forward to.
Love this series and author. You can't go wrong with reading this authors books. She has 4 different series I love. If you haven't read her books yet I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed this book. I received an advanced copy from NetGalley. The characters of this series are great.
Killer Comfort Food by Lynn Cahoon is a good story with suspense. I love all the pets in this book; they are such a great addition and add to the story's realism.
Lynn Cahoon is a writer who crafts solid plotlines and interesting scenes. Plus, the great descriptions of the food had my mouth watering.
I suggest reading this series from book one to this book. You won't be disappointed.

I enjoy every moment of the time I get to spend with one of my favorite cast of characters on page—the County Seat restaurant gang! Chef Angie Turner runs the yummy establishment with best friend, Felicia Williams who’s practically engaged to the second-in-command, Chef Estebe Blackstone.
Angie is stressing over a soybean plant that’s trying to strong arm her and her neighbors into selling their properties for the plant to build on. Angie loves her farm and animals—Dom (her St. Bernard), Mabel (hen), and Precious (goat), and doesn’t want to move.
A suspicious death plus a missing person send up red flags to Angie and friends that the soybean plant developers are into some shady business and could be possible murderers, also! There are red herrings throughout this well-written cozy. It’s exciting reading as the story develops and the author drops hints about what may come later in the story. Great read! I highly recommend the Farm-to-Fork series.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Lyrical Publishing. All opinions are my own. Thank you
A new-to-me cozy series by an author whose works I've read and enjoyed before. The main character is Angie, a chef restaurateur, who lives in her late grandmother's farm house with a dog, a goat, and a chicken. A development company is wanting to buy her and her neighbour's properties to convert to a soy bean factory. But, she's resistant and does not want to sell. Then she was asked for assistance to locate her neighbouring bar owner's daughter, who have disappeared. Of course, as is common in these kind of books, Angie discovered that all these things are connected to each other. It took a bit for me to understand who is who, since I have not read books 1 to 4. Being a chef, there's a lot of talk of food in this book, so be prepared. As for the ending, I can say I did not foresee who the perpetrator is.. The motives behind the actions were not really explained fully though. The focus is mostly on Angie and her friends and not so much the mystery. Overall, an average cozy read, but maybe not the best one I've read from this author.
**Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!**
In Killer Comfort Food, the 5th book in the Farm-to-Fork Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon, someone is trying to take away Angie's farm. Neighbors are selling, but she and one other are the holdout. What's happening behind the scenes? At the same time, a dead girl's body is found and a friend asks Angie to search for missing daughter. One of the chefs at the famed eatery has an ex who won't stop harassing her. Is it all connected?
There are lots of fantastic reasons to read this series. All the wonderful settings. The delicious food. Strong characters. Solid writing. They are prevalent in this latest book, and I recommend starting from the beginning with this cozy mystery series. Cahoon brings a nice balance of levity and seriousness to her work. There are lessons but you're not hit over the head with them. You find lots of great relationships to dissect. And the reality (except the murder part, of course) of everything that happens in the restaurant and farm business is enlightening and intriguing.
As a mystery, this was nicely pulled together. I felt suspense and drama, but I also enjoyed sitting back as Angie did some digging. I found her relationship with the husband of the missing girl (also the lawyer for the company trying to buy up all the farms) a bit strange. Sometimes they liked each other; other times they did not. The husband even hugged Angie at one point, then a chapter later mentioned he disliked her and wanted her to leave him alone, to a degree. It definitely made me suspicious of him.
In the end, I found the scenes with Nancy's children heartwarming. Angie's boyfriend is kinda perfect; he can't possibly exist, right? Idaho is looking like a nice place to check out these days, friends! Start with this series and then decide to give 'em all a shot. Plus, the author writes several other fun series to explore too.
Glad to catch up with Angie and the restaurant crew in this engaging mystery, well written with an ending suprise.
This is the 5th installment in the Farm to Fork mystery series set in Idaho. The County Seat restaurant is owned by Angie Turner and her best friend Felicia who source with food grown on local farms. Angie is getting a little nervous as a soybean processing plant is buying up all the land around her farm the one left to her by her Nona. There are many people in town who are attracted to the idea of a plant as it does provide needed jobs but Angie does not want to be surrounded by it and there is a vacant plant that could be used and not use precious farmland. She can’t move as she has built a nice home with all of pets (including a pet chicken, goat and dog). There are rumors regarding the marital issues of the lawyer who is pressuring people to sell and when his wife disappears he claims she has just left. Susan is the daughter of local bar owner Barb and she asks Angie and her friends to find her. There are mysteries within mysteries in this story and it definitely does not disappoint. The story kept me engaged and I continue to enjoy the local and friendships. This one is a winner.
I received a copy of Killer Comfort Food through NetGalley in exchange for me honest review.
Killer Comfort Food is the 5th installment of the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series and in this mystery, Angie Turner is on the search for her friend, Barb's, missing daughter while trying to fight off the soybean processing plant that wants to buy her property for their new development.
I have read all of the Farm-to-Fork Mystery books and love the series overall, but this book was probably my least favorite. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Angie and in this book she just got on my nerves. To me, she came off as a little whiny and quick to rush to conclusions. Overall, I love the characters in this series and the setting, but Angie got to me in this book. I enjoyed the mystery and the story line itself, but I couldn't get fully passed Angie wanting to do everything her way without thinking about the potential danger she was in.
I love this series and I'm sure this book was just a blip for me, looking at the other reviews, everyone else loved it. I still look forward to seeing what the next installment in this series holds and hope I'm back to loving Angie then! It is definitely worth the read, maybe at a different time I can read this again and Angie and I won't clash on everything!
I love Lynn Cahoon books and I have enjoyed every book in this series as well as her others so far. This book was a little different. Barb asks Angie to look into her daughter's disappearance and see if she can find out what happened to her. Meanwhile Angie is still trying to hold onto her house despite continued pressure to sell. There was not much real interaction between characters, we spend a lot of time in Angie's thoughts and most of what she does in this book has nothing to do with furthering the story. It just felt like a lot of filler. I also began to feel sorry for Ian as she just sort of expects him to do everything for her and does not seem to add much to the relationship. The clues she did find just seemed to fall into her lap or she would just magickly have a thought that led to a conclusion. Not the best book I have read from this author.
I loved this cozy mystery. The characters are what brings me back to this series. But, the plot keeps me reading this series. This story had three different mysteries that were interwoven to create an incredibly delightful plot with a surprise ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I received an advanced reader's copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Barb, the owner of the local bar next to the County Seat restaurant ask Angie Turner to help look into her daughter's disappearance.
Susan is the wife of one of the lawyers working for the Soybean plant moving into the area.
The same firm that's trying to buy her home (the one she inherited from her Nona) that she's resisting the sale of. This may be to the detriment of her health and her animals.
When Jon, said husband of Susan, loses his job because the company suspects foul play.
Jon also asks Angie to help find her.
Meanwhile, Nancy (one of Angie's kitchen help) has a request to speak to her at the restaurant.
It's none other than her ex-husband and his new wife. After a short confrontation in which the couple is asked to leave the restaurant. Nancy starts getting threatening calls, and her home is broken into. Nancy suspects her husband is trying to kidnap their children.
Angie Turner is back at it in the 5th Farm-to-Fork Mysteries! She is determined to keep her farm when a developer moves in to buy up the land. When she knows there is a better option for the location. Her friend asks Angie’s help to locate her missing daughter all the while running her busy restaurant! This was a fun mystery with twist and turns throughout. I felt like I was with Angie on her missions!

Killer Comfort Food #5, in the Farm-to-Fork Mystery series, by Lynn Cahoon
Life gets bumpy in Idaho as Angie Turner is beset by developers who want her home, the one treasure she is loath to part with, to build a soy bean plant. The County Seat has an employee in the 'danger zone', and the local bar owner has asked Angie to investigate her daughter's disappearance ---whew!
The suspense mounts as the danger grows, and Ian moves into Angie's to try and keep her safe. A twisted mystery that kept me guessing to the end.
I love the way the characters in this series band together in support of each other and strangers, too--"families" of their own choice. It is this heartwarming aspect--along with those sweet pets-- that puts this series on the auto buy list. Thank you #KensingtonPublishing #NetGalley #KillerComfortFood for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. I like to review books I enjoy so that my friends, and others, can share in the excitement!
KILLER COMFORT FOOD is the fifth book in the Farm-to-Fork Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon. One of the strengths of this series are the characters. From protagonist Angie Turner, to her best friend, Felicia, who is also co-owner of their restaurant the County Seat, to the animal characters, each are well-developed and grow with each new book. I adore Angie’s pets: Dom, the adorable St. Bernard, Precious the goat, and Mabel the chicken. Each has their own individual and charming personality. Also central to the story is Ian, Angie’s almost-too-nice boyfriend. It’s been enjoyable watching their relationship unfold over the course of this series. That said, Killer Comfort Food can be read as a stand-alone but for the full effect of the characters, starting at the beginning is worthwhile.
There are several subplots that weave together in this cozy mystery. Tethering the mystery is the soybean processing plant that is pressuring homeowners to sell their property, including Angie. While most townspeople are all for the plant coming in, Angie does not want to lose her small farm bequeathed to her by her beloved grandmother. Could the disappearance of the wife of the attorney representing the processing plant have anything to do with the grab for land? Could the Jane Doe murder victim be connected? Why is the local bar owner begging Angie for help? And who is threatening one of Angie’s employees? Ms. Cahoon writes a well-paced plot that ties incongruous clues together into a cohesive story. With a heartwarming wrap-up, the author will have fans eagerly awaiting the next release in this charming series!
