Cute photos, got a few ideas for baby’s room.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* I know a few people who would have loved to have this book when they were pregnant! pretty cool, mostly basic stuff but cute
I'm of two minds about this book. The information given in it is solid and useful. The author covers everything from needs and safety to colors and storage. However, I found the photos of the different nurseries to have a boring sameness about them. I would definitely recommend this book for the information in it, but I would look at other books for visual inspiration.
Your Perfect Nursery is a tutorial and style guide with information presented by Naomi Coe. Released 6th April 2021 by Simon & Schuster on their Tiller Press imprint, it's 240 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats.
There certainly is a lot of planning and change involved in growing a family. It's a lot of excitement of course, but also potentially stressful to planning and decorating a nursery. This is a very well curated book of advice and design help for systematically planning and executing a nursery design from ideas to completion by a friendly and experienced designer whose specialization is nurseries.
The information is presented in a logical and easy-to-access manner. The introductory material includes a general overview, ideas, and (importantly!) safety concerns before any of the actual work begins. The author then moves to chapters on budget planning, floorplans and layouts, choosing themes, actual furniture, storage, decor, textiles, contracting larger jobs (lots of good info here for -anyone- dealing with the contracting process), and finishing touches.
I liked that the author has an encouraging, sensible, and practical style without strangling readers' creativity or whimsy. I also liked the information on sustainability and adaptations/metamorphosis after the purpose built nursery needs to grow and change. There's a short subchapter on adaptability for adoptive parents who might not know the child's exact age, as well as planning for siblings sharing a space. The author uses a significant amount of effort and emphasis on safety - of furnishings, of the actual furniture, of the chemicals and processes used - all good and worthwhile advice. The appendix includes shopping and resources and links for further reading. Most of the retailers and resources are aimed at readers in North America, but many of them do provide shipping services.
The emphasis in this book is high end designer aesthetic but I found a wealth of good information for people across the budget spectrum. The photography throughout is very good. The photos are in color, clear, and easy to follow.
Four and a half stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
I was drooling over the beautiful nurseries. Great ideas and beautiful room designs. I do think that this book is geared more toward parents pregnant with their first child. I have three kids and it would be a disaster to try and keep all the little breakable things and plans out of their clutches. I also have limited funds and I don't believe I could make a beautiful room out of my miss matched nursery items. But a mom can dream right? I might use a few organizing and dacore ideas in the future. I received a free ebook copy of this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks for the opportunity to review this book. Someone in my immediate family just had a baby (yay!) and while the nursery is stocked and somewhat themed, what we ran into was seeing a lot of cool stuff on IG but not knowing truly how to translate it into "real life". Another consideration was all of the things that we could be forgetting, overlooking, or just not knowing about. I think after reading through this book (I even texted about some of it to my family member), I would provide feedback as follows:
1. This book is helpful for the expecting parents. It covers not only the material aspects of the nursery but more importantly the safety and comfort of the child. It is realistic and doable projects, not over the top in skills, tools, or money.
2. This book would be helpful in learning how to translate the modern ideas that you will see on Pinterest, IG, etc. into real life. You may have ideas but it is helpful to know what materials are included and tips for translating the ideas into the real life space.
Nice book, modern, doable, and useful

Even though I am not due to be pregnant for a while, it was nice to get some ideas for a nursery when my time comes. I have heard of Naomi and her company and I remember her designs are warm and welcoming and the baby will never want to leave the room. All of the photos taken in the book were really well done and it help bring the room to life. Naomi also shares some insightful tips that I would never think of. This book will be a great reference when it comes time to design a nursery in the house and I can't wait to see the results when we apply all of her tips and tricks. I also loved that there was a notes section to come up with your dream nursery after reading each chapter. I also know a lot of people that are already and becoming pregnant that are searching for nursery ideas and I can't wait to share this book with them.
We will consider adding this title to our TT Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
I'm due with my second baby in June and this book was very nice to flip through as we prepare his room. Filled with lots of different styles and designs, with many beautiful photographs, it was the perfect inspiration and starting point. I likes how they included a lot of practical things too from checklists to nursery safety.
This book is so wonderful for anyone that is having a baby. It would be a great gift for a mom or dad to be. The pictures are real life and help you to see how things are going to look. There are so many ideas and countless things to think about when beginning to find out what kind of theme you want for your nursery.
I enjoyed reading this book and scrolling through the photos. I love the tips and inspirations. This book has lots of photos with inspo for every style. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
This gorgeous book is perfect for helping parents prepare an adorable nursery for their little one! I enjoyed the identification for the styles with pictures. It also goes through and talks about safety, furniture, and other aspects that would probably appeal to first time parents. Having already had quite a few kids, I would have enjoyed more pictures of specific styles, maybe a few for each to show some variety but classified under types. That would have been more relevant to me, however, for a first time parent, this book probably covers a range of basis well.
