I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I love unique alphabet books, and this book is no exception. Kids will love the games they can have fun within this book.
This was an adorable mix of two things: the search and find books I love very much and an alphabet guide, with each letter proposing an alphabet of its own, for example, D is for Dinosaurs, then they go through the whole alphabet naming dinosaurs, It's really informative and fun and the illustrations are adorable.
I thank Netgalley for the digital ARC.
This was such a fun book. My toddler had a blast looking at all of the different letters and exploring each page. This is really a great learning tool while being fun and entertaining at the same time.
What an awesome book! This book is jam packed with the alphabet! We took our time with this book since each page had another alphabet on it. We enjoyed every page since there was a new and exciting alphabet on each one. My favorite was the alphabet for the letter M. The illustrated page was that of a museum and it had a corresponding alphabet that was specific to museum items. My son really enjoyed the alphabet for the letter R and my daughter enjoyed the alphabet for the letter Z. A super fun book with incredibly detailed illustrations! I’d highly recommend this awesome book!
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.
A delightful display of playful scenes packed with wit and alphabet charm. A dazzling pictorial abecedarium for curious minds!
A bit of a combination seek and find and alphabet book, this book contains all kinds of fun alphabets like D for Dinosaur, H for Hats and T for Toyshop. In each you get to find the items for each letter they have listed. It if full of quirky and fun details.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for providing me with a copy of this book.
I’m always on the lookout for picture books for my son. When I saw the description and cover for An Alphabet of Alphabets, I just had to request it. And I’m so glad that I did.
The concept of the book is amazing! Each alphabet has a theme and the illustrations correspond to that theme. For example, D is for Dinosaurs and the illustrations are all of the different types of dinosaurs. Also within the theme we have objects from A to Z. Example, in the dinosaurs theme, we have the names of dinosaurs from A to Z. It’s very very informative and each alphabet has an activity to do.
My son is too young to do the activities but he liked looking at the colorful pictures, which kept his interest. I definitely learnt new words that I didn’t know before. So it’s a win for kids and adults!
The illustrations are brilliant. Colorful and fun without being too overwhelming. Each page is a wonder.. I can’t even decide which one is my favorite.
Overall, a brilliant book for kids that will keep them engaged. I can’t recommend it enough.
If you are only going to buy one alphabet related book, then this book should be it! An Alphabet of Alphabets is exactly what it sounds like. Each page is dedicated to a letter of the alphabet and discusses a subject or theme that begins with that letter. Then as you read through the page you find that it is filled with an alphabet's worth of items that fit with that theme, For example, Y is for yellow things, and the Y page is filled with something yellow for each letter of the alphabet. So in one book, you get 27 reviews of the alphabet while learning about 26 different subjects. This is probably the best book out there for teaching younger children about the world, and about their letters.
This is a fantastic interactive book with 26 alphabetical games. Each letter of the alphabet has a page with ABCs for a theme and hide and seek picture games. This is a great one for learning new words and keeping little ones busy for a long time.
Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for the advance copy.
An Alphabet of Alphabets follows in the tradition of I Spy and Where's Waldo, with charming illustrations drawn by Allan Sanders. The reader is invited to find a variety of ABC-based images on each page, with even more searchable items listed in the back of the book. This little book is jampacked full of fun, and is sure to be a lovely addition to any child's library.
Thank you to Wide Eyed Editions and NetGalley for the ARC!
An Alphabet of Alphabets is a cleverly imagined and beautifully rendered series of alphabet drawings. Due out 24th Nov 2020 from Quarto on their Wide-Eyed Editions imprint, it's 48 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats (ebook available now).
This is such an exuberant little book - bursting with colorful and intelligently playful illustrations. Each page is a letter of the alphabet, but all the pages are also alphabets themselves. The "A" page (see cover) is for arc, and all of the animals are arranged in silly poses and activities. It will provide hours of enjoyment and almost limitless scope for hunt-and-find and wordplay with the small humans in readers' lives.
This would be a superlative gift, excellent classroom or library group selection for activity groups, a wonderful parent/caregiver activity, or even for babysitters and child-minders looking to up their activity time with their small charges.
Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions through NetGalley.
A delightful book full of games for each alphabet letter. Readers read the opening information page and then move through each alphabet letter to see what connects with the main topic for each page. Don't miss the two full earth alphabet runs. The final page gives some answers and further challenges.
Terrific book for growing vocabulary and stimulating young minds. This is one that can be read over and over to find something new each time.
I loved the premise of the book!! It’s a great idea! The questions for kids or adults including those who have minor dementia or beginning Alzheimer’s this is a fantastic resource for them!
The only thing I would recommend is that the color of the words for example it’s all black. B is in a color but the (B) is for Birds. Is black and it just fades into the background it needs to standout or make the font bigger for them. Something else! Same thing for your look for this: A-z animals or whatever it also is bland and just fades into the background.
Other than that I love this book! My friends 7 years old loved it and her 12 year old loved it! They didn’t notice the find this section at first!
I would definitely recommend this book!
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
A brilliant book and one I cannot wait to buy!
Each page is a delight! From each letter of the alphabet, there is an alphabet of items to find. I love the idea that each page has such detailed drawings that you can spend ages looking through.
From hats to a museum to yellow things, each letter has an alphabet to find within. Clever illustrations and different fonts and designs make this a treat for young readers.
An excellent way to boost scanning skills, vocabulary and seek and find fun.
One to add to the Christmas list for sure!
"An Alphabet of Alphabets" is a well-illustrated and detailed introduction to the alphabet. Each page includes a variety of printed words to teach children about the alphabet. The book is very dense and text-heavy. For new readers, this book could be read a page at a time in a classroom or library setting.
An Alphabet of Alphabets promises "26 alphabetical games, from A-Z!" and it more than delivers on that. This isn't your ordinary alphabet book, in which each letter stands for something in a theme or topic - animals or foods or feelings - this is a meta-alphabet, which each letter stands for an entire alphabetic collection. Presenting some fun variation on games for each letter, An Alphabet of Alphabet is something along the lines of Where's Waldo or I Spy, as readers hunt for each lettered item, for extra little finds like the queen's crown, underpants, or a little mouse on each page, or hidden bonus A-Zs. The artwork is fun, expressive and adorable, and the book as a whole is an engaging, entertaining, and informative read-again-and-again adventure for young readers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Wide Eyed Editions for the advance review copy!
'An Alphabet of Alphabets' is a wonderful, imaginative ABC book! Each letter features a topic like B for Bird or E for Earth and features items in that category from A-Z. Because there are 26 things for each letter, it takes a while to read through this book as it is so interactive. The pictures on each page are fun and beautiful. I love how much deeper this book goes than a typical, simple ABC picture book. I would recommend this book for preschool through early elementary school.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
I really liked this. The visuals and colours are engaging and I love that there is so much to find. Having the alphabet within each letter is such a great idea. Very creative and fun!
The only thing I would say is that the text seems very small, hopefully it appears much bigger in print form.
Alphabet of Alphabets is superb introduction to the world of letters and the alphabet and I’m a massive fan. Alphabet of Alphabets is a glorious journey through the twenty-six letters of the alphabet and readers will be an alphabet expert by the end of this book or to give them their proper name, they will be an Alphabetarian.
Each letter is given it’s own page or double page spread and in each spread there are things to find for all twenty-six letters of the alphabet. B is for Birds and you’ve guessed it, you need to find the name of a bird for each letter of the alphabet. Can you find a Cockatoo, a Grouse, a Nightingale, a Swan and a Woodpecker? And more importantly can you find the birds in alphabetical order. E is for Earth and hiding on this delightful double page spread are two alphabets. One is much like B is for Birds where readers must spot the features of earth in alphabetical order. The other is much harder as readers must create a second alphabet by spotting different images. M for Museum flips things around in that readers are given the names of things in alphabetical order and they must find these things in the museum. S is for School requires readers to work out the alphabet object that belongs to each child. To keep the level of challenge up the children are not seated in alphabetical order so readers are tasked with finding the children in the correct order and then identifying the alphabet image. Harry Houseman is wearing headphones, Olivia Ogilvie has an orange and Xavier Xanthus is sitting an eXam (the book acknowledges at the start that sometimes a little bit of creativity is called for as not many words begin with X).
I love the subtle variations in the challenges throughout the book while all the focus remains on learning the alphabet. It certainly is a fun and interactive way to learn the A, B, C’s. There are lots of additional challenges too, like finding the mischievous mouse who sneaks into every picture and spotting a number that appears in every spread, really observant readers may spot the relevance of each number too.
With beautiful illustrations that pack a great deal of humour, this fun, interactive and educational book will appeal to all young children. Even though the book is produced for young readers I really like that the author does not shy away from using more challenging language. Get ready to learn about the exosphere, an isopod, a Uakari, Xenops and a zamboni and many other delightful words.
Alphabet of Alphabets is a fabulous way for young children to learn and consolidate their knowledge of letters and the alphabet. The book is published as a large format coffee-table sized book with thick pages that will hold up to the exploration of little fingers.
Recommended for 4+.
Wow! Wide Eyed books are usually off to a good start with me anyway as they're one of my favourite publishers. I tend to want anything that they release and whatever I have, I've loved, so chances were that I'd like this one. And I do! Very much! This book is amazing. Aside from the fab illustrations, this book has so much to offer and I can see its uses in school being endless. This is one of those books that children will be entranced by, whether they're using it to find something specific for use in writing or to snuggle up with in the book corner. Books like this, with so many things to see and do, keep children coming back again and again and this will be no exception.
