There are so many great recipes to be had in this new book out by Jessica DeMay called Clean Paleo Comfort Food Cookbook. I feel like the layout of the book is wonderful, with all the full-color images of her wonderful dishes. It causes quite the mouth-watering responses. I have enjoyed for years her recipes that she has shared personally and on-line that I was super excited to see a book coming out by her. It did not disappoint. From how to make mayo and ketchup to main meals, soups, and desserts. You’re going to want to get your hands on this one. I highly recommend it.
I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher and I’m giving my honest review of what I thought.

Clean Paleo Comfort Food Cookbook by Jessica DeMay was full of delicious paleo recipes (that also fit some other diets.)

I loved that there were a mix of recipes. Some were old favourites with a twist and some were completely original and new to me. The photos made everything so appetizing. I appreciated that the recipes were easy to follow and pretty simple.

If you are looking for some delicious, simple paleo food, I highly recommend Clean Paleo Comfort Food Cookbook.

I received an eARC from Quarto Publishing and Fair Winds through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

Clean Paleo Comfort Food Cookbook is a lifestyle/diet guide with lots of varied recipes for paleo friendly food developed and curated by Jessica DeMay. Released 12 Jan 2021 by Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 192 pages and is available in paperback format.

The introduction includes a very good overview over the paleo diet, what it includes (and doesn't) and some theory behind the food selections. There's also an introduction to basic cooking equipment and ingredients. This book's angle is the addition of hearty nostalgic comfort food emphasis. Everyone has those special comfort food recipes and the author has made an effort to incorporate that emotional nostalgia into the mix. There's also an emphasis on "clean" paleo... there are no non-compliant foods, and no "reintroduced" ingredients, so readers looking for strictly paleo recipes won't have to make any substitutions or adjustments to the recipes included here to be paleo.

The recipes are grouped by category: basics, breakfast, appetizers & sides, chicken turkey & pork, beef, soups, and desserts. The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in US standard with metric measures in parentheses (yay!). Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Nutritional information is not included. Tips and variations on each recipe are included in a text box at the end. Special dietary comments (low FODMAP, nut-free, egg-free, etc) are included in the headers.

The book also includes a short author bio and index (not included in the eARC for review, so I can't comment on those aspects of the book).

The photography is clear and attractive. Roughly 25% of the recipes include one or more photos which are easy to follow. Serving suggestions are attractive and appropriate.

Four stars. This would make a superlative selection for busy cooks wanting a simplified way to test the paleo diet and make a real effort to give it a genuine try in an accessible and logical manner. I would recommend it highly to cooks who are trying to incorporate healthier choices for their families without sacrificing taste and "family friendly" presentations.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I've been eating a gluten-free diet, by necessity, for around 10 years now and I'm always looking for clean gluten-free recipe ideas. Clean Paleo Comfort Food Cookbook is right up my alley. This time of year plus all of us with our stay-at-home isolation (close to the refrigerator) pounds we've packed on makes this clean eating cookbook more welcome than the author can ever know.

Much of the Paleo theory and ideas behind clean eating are not new to me but may be a welcome primer to those looking for a different way of nourishing their body. A lot of recipes are also pretty standard for my diet as of now but there are a few recipes that simply made my mouth water alternately with the savory (French Onion Soup with Meatballs) and the sweet (umm, hello Butternut Squash Pecan Crumble and Cashew Butter Swirl Brownies. Welcome to my recipe box. Yum!)

Definitely a great starter for those looking to get into the Paleo/Clean eating lifestyle without sacrificing taste and comfort.

I really enjoyed the recipes in this book. Nice to have options for when you want something a big hearty and comforting

Some good-looking recipes that I plan to try, though a lot of the book was standard Paleo-fare that you'll find in almost every Paleo cookbook. Lots of nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) so if you are on an AIP-style Paleo diet, beware.

This book has a lot of recipes, but not a lot of pictures. I like to see what the finished recipe should look like in cook books so that's a bummer to not get to see them. This book has a variety of recipes that sound good. Some are time intensive and there's a lot of meat included but some of these do come pretty close to their non-paleo alternatives.

Overall it's a pretty straight forward cook book.

This gave me a delicious introduction to the paleo diet! I am always trying to eat healthier but I have been following mostly low-carb dishes with protein and vegetables. But I am always looking for new and interesting recipes that will keep healthy eating fun.

I loved that this cookbook educated me on the paleo diet and even gave me a list of foods that are recommended as it allows me to customize the recipes in the book to my personal food preferences while sticking to my diet. I loved the options for sweets in this book.... something I feel I have to limit myself on but there were a variety of dessert recipes I could see myself trying.

Breakfast I find to be the hardest meal of the day to substitute healthy choices for because breakfast is a grab and go type of meal for me. But I loved both chocolate chip muffins and butter pecan granola something I could see myself making time and time again.

I liked the variety of dishes but also that they are all reminiscent of the types of foods you want to enjoy when it is cold out. I think this is a good introduction to people who want to eat healthier but don't want to quite give up all their comfort foods yet.

Also LOVED the food photos, so simple and elegant.

Clean Paleo Comfort Food by Jessica DeMay is a great introduction into the Paleo lifestyle. The recipes are fairly easy and sound quite good. I don’t know that I will be able to live a completely Paleo lifestyle but I will definitely start incorporating these recipes into my meals.
The cookbook is sectioned by courses, which is very nice. I prefer pictures for every recipe and wish this cookbook had those. It also doesn’t contain nutritional facts which is somewhat disappointing. The section on soups would probably be my favorite and I look forward to trying them soon.
I would recommend this cookbook to anyone new to Paleo, looking for simple, delicious recipes!

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for the opportunity to read this book

I don't eat only paleo but I try to eat as many clean, whole foods as possible - so I thought this book would be perfect to add new recipes into our rotation. If you are new to Paleo, I think that the beginning of the book gives a great introduction and helps explain to those who are unfamiliar and why people choose this lifestyle.

I wanted to make a few recipes before reviewing this book and I loved every single one of them! I can be a picky eater sometimes and I think these recipes were great and easy to follow, but also easily customizable.

Overall, I definitely recommend this book for all people trying to eat cleaner, not just those who are strictly paleo.

This is a well put together, and well-organized cookbook on the heath benefits of paleo. She gives her own personal story and offers a great starting point for going paleo. But these are great recipes for expert paleo enthusiast as well as beginners. Great recipes, most of them with photos, and most of them super reasonable to make. I love that it offers clean recipes for the introductory paleo cook so as not to be too intimidating. I admit that I have often run fast and far away from paleo recipes if they get too complicated, and I even love to cook. A recommended book for a keeper shelf for those interested in cooking clean paleo meals.

This is the perfect cookbook for the holidays and winter. I am loving the cozy goodness from these recipes, and so far I have tried two. They were both easy to make, and turned out great- my whole family enjoyed them both, and that is NO SMALL MIRACLE with two children in our house.

I am going to continue to make these recipes and will definitely recommend this to my paleo friends- they are going to love it!

This is a well organized cookbook with a variety of recipes and excellent photography. The author tells of her own struggle with foods and what led her to the paleo lifestyle which is geared toward eliminating certain foods that are irritating to the digestive system. This is a cookbook for those who love to cook and a wonderful resource for those following the paleo lifestyle. It does use some not commonly found(at least where I live) ingredients like arrowroot flour, coconut aminos and many different types of coconut products in general. I was given this copy for early review on Netgalley and although not something I would use personally, I thought it was well done and the book cover is so comforting and clean looking in itself and would make an excellent addition to a cookbook library.

I was excited to discover the recipes of that book. I don't know much about paleo cooking but to me it seemed close to what I grew up with (basically a low carb diet, heavy on meats and veggies instead). The recipe in this book are really catered to family meals, simple and practical and can be done in almost any family kitchen. It also is carful to make sure most recipes are IBS friendly, which is a nice thing to know and be able to do when you know some fragile people are coming to eat.
The pictures are good, though there is only about 1 picture for every 3 recipe. The directions are clear. You will find all the classics from the chicken soup to the meatloaf and how to replace typical carbs like pasta with vegetable alternatives such as zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, all kinds of potatoes or cauliflower rice... There are lots of neat ideas like the use of pecan nuts for lots of crusting, and I particularly liked the dessert section, as it offers really a lot of choices while never using typical wheat flour. Sadly, I don't think this book was for me. I'm afraid that while I could see the value of this book for a beginning cook, there was nothing that wowed me and that I absolutely wanted to make. I would recommend it for someone leaving home and needing one of those first cookbooks to learn the basics home foods from.
