On purpose, I really almost never read serial books, with a couple exceptions, like the Game of Thrones series and Beartown (where is that third book, BTW??? @backmansk ).
That being said, with this being the third Class Mom story I’ve read, I can see the appeal of reading books in a series. It’s easy to jump right in with characters you know, a writing style you’re used to, and plot points you can solve in your sleep. Class mom extraordinaire, Jen, is a hoot and would make a fun IRL partner in crime. Her observations on life and motherhood are amusing and help make up for novels that are generally fluffier than I prefer.
Gelman’s novels are like wearing your favorite jammies - it’s great when you know you can spend the whole day in them; they’re comfy and pleasing but eventually, you want to change into something a little nicer.
Thanks to #netgalley and #henryholtandcompany for this ARC of #yogapantnation in exchange for an honest review.
Another hit out of the elementary school park for Laurie Gelman! As someone who now has a college aged daughter (who will never graduate if she keeps changing her major) - I miss those Class Mom days.... if only for a millisecond..
Fingers crossed that this trilogy turns into a series as Max goes on to Junior High, but if not, thank you for the reliving of my Class Mom years....
A perfect slice of life in the weeds of every mom trying to put out fires and still stay sane. It’s full of moments so funny and perfect in their depiction of how the smallest moments can tear a day apart. Trying to cope with a looming fundraiser with a huge end goal does nothing to simplify her life. Caught in the passive aggressive local yoga studio manager’s web the walls start closing in and reason needs to take the reins of Jen Dixon’ s life. Happy reading
So much FUN! I love this series for it’s relatability and how it pokes fun at Mom life in the best way possible. It’s witty and so down to earth. I love returning to this series, as they are always good for a laugh. It’s fresh, its funny, it’s REAL. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book in the series, and just as cute as the other two. Very relatable but still hilarious
If you are a mom of school age kids, do yourself a favor and read this series! We meet Jen Dixon in the first book of the series, Class Mom. She’s the room parent for her son’s kindergarten class. She is famous for her snarky emails and sarcastic (often misunderstood) wit. In the second book, You’ve been Volunteered, her son, Max, is in second grade. Jen learns she’s going to be a grandma and her witty emails continue. In the most recent addition to the series, Jen becomes a spin instructor in addition to class mom and chair of a fundraising committee. I loved the references to Peloton and spin class playlists. As a former room mom, I can tell you the snark Jen throws out in every correspondence is is what room mom’s dream of sending. If she were a real person, we would most definitely be besties.
A light-hearted and funny book about the crazy world of motherhood? I am all about it! "Yoga Pant Nation" follows the same main character as the previous two books, Jen Dixon with her son now in 5th grade and back in her role as class mom. This year she is also juggling leading a school fundraiser, being a newly trained spin instructor trying to find jobs, watching her granddaughter, and her parents declining health. She's stuck in that sandwich generation, but it's funny and realistic at the same time. The book's title comes from Jen's husband's jokes about her multitude of yoga pants, and is my favorite in the series.
There is tongue in cheek commentary and also honesty about what motherhood is like, albeit from someone who isn't worried about finances. The emails to the class parents and the fundraising committee were funny and one of my favorites aspects of this series. The series is not groundbreaking, but are fun reads and I did stalk Netgalley for this one. I recommend reading the first two in the series before this one.
Mom life is hard! This entire series has been perfection. We have followed Max from K to 5th grade & watched how Jen deals with her life through humor & grace. The emails she writes to the class make you laugh out loud. I wish I had a friend like Jen to help me navigate life.
Not my favorite but still enjoyable for a light read. I didn;t fnd any of the characters to be super likable.
Do you ever read a book and feel like you could be friends with its author?
After reading all three of her books, I have a feeling @lauriegelman and I could be friends. I mean I’m not a parent, but I am a teacher. A teacher who finds her snark totally relatable.
In the latest installment of her Class Mom series, we return to reluctant Class Mom Jen Dixon and her antics. This time around she’s still begrudgingly carrying out Class Mom duties, but she’s also added on other jobs- namely fundraiser chairperson, a spin class instructor, and part time caretaker fo her grand child, as well as her parents.
There’s a lot going on in this book, but at the same time it’s all slice of life stuff. As you get older, worrying about your parents well being is inevitable. And you never stop worrying about your children’s well being, and their children and so on. These are serious topics, but Gelman writes about them with a good balance of humor and insight.
While trying to juggle her caretaker duties, she’s also living out more light hearted endeavors like aspiring spin class instructor extraordinaire and being the sarcastic Class Mom readers like myself have grown to know and love. There’s a lot to have fun with, but her emails to parents are the highlight of this series. Gelman’s creation of Jen Dixon tells things like they are and doesn’t hold back. In my opinion you don’t have to be a parent to find the world Gelman has created as one worth visiting!
Big thanks to @netgalley and @henryholtbooks for allowing me the opportunity to visit the world of Overland Park again! This book is out in stores now!
Jen Dixon, everyone’s favorite Kansas City class mom, is back for her last year of middle school. Well, not her last year, but her son’s last year, making this her final year as class mom. She is looking forward to hanging up her emails and retiring, but first (as always) the PTA president has just one more thing for her to take on.
So in addition to raising her fifth grade son Max and two young adult women, in addition to running a household and being a wife to a man who owns sporting goods stores and yoga studios, in addition to being the daughter to aging parents and helping out with her 2-year-old granddaughter, she’s also learning to teach spin classes. And she’s Max’s class mom. And now, apparently, she’s in charge of raising $10,000 to buy new tablets for the middle schoolers, an amount far higher than any group had been asked to raise in the past.
But nobody juggles like Jen. Between her spin classes and yoga classes, her parents and her kids, her friends and her husband’s ex-wife, Jen finds a way to balance challenges with humor and heart, and faces what she can with all the grace she can muster. A lackluster first few spin classes as a teacher? She turns to her friends for advice. She needs snacks for class activities and chaperones for an overnight field trip? Turn to those snarky emails that she’s been using for years to wear her fellow caretakers down. Her fellow fundraisers are struggling to think of good ideas to raise the $10,000? Just nod and smile when one of them suggests getting Tom Hanks to help out and wait until inspiration strikes.
But some of her problems are more difficult. When Viv’s ex’s mother wants to take their toddler daughter to India for several months? Hire a good lawyer for the arbitration. When her father becomes lethargic and her mother starts talking about people living in the basement? Find a place for them to consider moving to while getting a home inspector to check the basement. When your best friend’s mother-in-law’s spirit guides tell you that the key to the fundraising is pizza? Ummm, well, that’s something that will take some time to figure out. But it’s Jen, our favorite class mom. You know she’s got this.
Yoga Pant Nation is the third book in Laurie Gelman’s series about Jen Dixon. We met her in Class Mom. We got to know her better in You’ve Been Volunteered. And we get another needed dose here. With lots of intelligent humor and realistic family situations, the Dixons face important issues like bullying, sex education, relationships with exes, dating apps, aging parents, and the song stylings of Rick Astley.
I have been a big fan of Laurie Gelman’s since I first met Jen Dixon years ago. I love her big heart and her acerbic humor, her intelligence and her generosity. She seems genuinely real and very Midwestern, and I wish I could know her in real life. But since I can’t, all I can do it hope for another Jen Dixon novel in my future, because I definitely want more.
Egalleys for Yoga Pant Nation were provided by Henry Holt & Company through NetGalley, with many thanks.
“I run upstairs to change into the latest iteration of the mom uniform—yoga pants, a T-shirt, and a cardigan. I don’t even bother with jeans anymore. Yoga pants are so comfortable, and I pretty much have a pair for every occasion.”
YOGA PANT NATION is the hilarious story of an exhausted mom trying to juggle it all. Jen Dixon is class mom (again) for her 10 year old son who is being bullied, and she’s also spearheading a fundraising campaign for the elementary school—all in the midst of a custody battle with her granddaughter, growing concerns over her aging parents, and her new career as a spin instructor. I really enjoyed reading a book with a middle-aged female protagonist dealing with all of the stuff of everyday life! @lauriegelman is so funny and I was cracking up throughout this book. this is the third book in her Class Mom series, but I think they can be read as standalone titles (this is the only one I’ve read!). it was a quick read that I flew through and was a total pleasure to read. 4/5⭐️—I liked it!
In this third installment in the Class Mom series, Jen is juggling a PTA fundraiser, a custody battle involving her granddaughter, her aging parents, and becoming a spin instructor. Welcome to the Gen X life!
The first book in the series was laugh out loud funny, but this one not so much. I do realize that it’s hard to keep up the same level of humor for several series, however. I like Jen’s schtick, but I would recommend reading the series books in order to see if this works for you or not. (I used to live in Kansas City, so I particularly appreciate the local references, and find it pretty humorous even though I don’t have kids and haven’t been through the PTA mom drill myself.)
I find this a good summer distraction: even though it’s not a beach read per se, it’s a great vacation read that I enjoyed.
I received an advance copy from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.
Our favorite class mom is back with a vengeance! Her style and wit still crack me up, even as a childless female. Jen sure knows how to "mom", spin and grandma. She even knows how to play nice with the ex- wife. Be sure to pick up your copy! This was a LOL! I hope Laurie Gelman keeps on writing.! .
Yoga Pant Nation is HYSTERICAL! Do you ever hear someone say something that you were thinking, but would never have the guts to say out loud? Well, Laurie Gelman’s characters in Yoga Pant Nation DO say them out loud and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud, several times! We all have heard our share of the pokes and jabs at class moms, but none have been as funny as the ones in this book! Have you ever heard th expression “it only hurts if it’s true”? In all honesty, I know not all class moms are this way, I was one and would not fit into any of the same categories as any of these categories, but it’s still funny mostly because I think I know a real life mom who DOES fit into each category! Although I do have to admit that I, too, have different types of yoga pants, and when certain ones are paired with a cute top, they make the perfect “dressy” outfit! The punchy sarcastic emails sent by Jen to the class moms had me crying because I was laughing so hard. The team name, especially when spoken by two year old Maude, was so tacky but funny, as were the people living in the basement, the spiritual guide repeating “pizza”, and the crazy ex-wife. I just loved this book so much and am so happy to hear that there were two books written before this one that are part of this series! I haven’t read any books written by Laurie Gelman before and am thrilled that I found her!
Yoga Pant Nation is book 3 in the Class Mom series written by Laurie Gelman. These novels are the perfect books to read when you want something light and fun that will make you laugh out loud. Jen is jiggling her new role as a spin instructor while also taking on a major fundraising campaign for her son's school. She uses her wit and wisdom to make the experiences fun and funny. Take this book to the beach with you for a perfect day. Read and enjoy!
Hilarious series that only gets better! Yoga Pant Nation is the 3rd book in the Class Mom series and the funniest by far. Jen Dixon is back in this story for Max's last year at William Taft Elementary, with drama a-plenty. Her parents are showing signs that they need long-term care, and there's a custody battle for her granddaughter that could result in her living out of the country.
I love the unfiltered humor in which Jen tackles life's problems. She has a genuinely kind heart, but her abrupt people skills often have to be taken with a grain of salt. I honestly wish there were more people in the world like her, and I'd LOVE to attend a PTA meeting with that kind of mom. Lots of family dynamics come into play with this book, taking you on a journey of laughter, emotions, and the genuine feel-good comedy that I've come to love from this series!
As a retired PTA chairperson this book and series is spot on perfection and I love it.

It’s now 5th grade and the final
Year as class mom for Jen, before middle school hits. Not only is she class mom but she’s also running the fundraiser to raise $10,000 for tablets. Their challenge is huge especially when they have already sold candy, candles, wrapping paper and popcorn.
.
She names her assembled team WeFUKCT (we fundraiser until kingdom come team) which is quite frankly my favorite fundraising team name ever. Jen’s emails are the highlight in this hilarious, quick paced book. Anyone who’s ever attended a parent teacher conference, meet and greet, fundraiser and general nonsense that is parents in pe, state parade or colonial market which is my favorite…..please read this in your most sarcastic voice as colonial market is done the WEEK BEFORE School ends for the summer and it’s a big ass project when the kids only care about summer. Sorry that took a turn to vent said school activity. Either way this book highlights the humor that comes with being a parent of a school age child.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed this one. Another funny book in a series I have really enjoyed. I found some parts really funnny (like WEFUKCT) although I didn't find this as funny as the last one. Still an enjoyable and fun read.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced read!
I had seen this book listed as a summer must read and was excited to receive a copy. And this book did not disappoint, I finished in less than 48hrs! Can't wait to read more from Laurie Gelman! This read follows a class mom for grade 5, who is also a grandmother and new spin instructor. We watch Jen scramble to make sure all her loved ones are taken care of, her husband, children, grandchild, parents, friends and fellow parents from the elementary school. Jen is sarcastic, witty, and someone I would want to be friends with!
