In this third installment of Laurie Gellman’s hysterical series we find Jen Dixon, class mom extraordinaire eagerly awaiting her last year in the elementary school system. It has been two years since Jen has given us an update and in that time so much has happened.
She is now a certified spin instructor looking for a job. Her son Max will be graduating elementary school and is eagerly awaiting the right of passage overnight class trip to Topeka . Her daughter gave birth to a daughter and has decided to be a single parent. Jen helps out by babysitting while her daughter works. Her parents seem to be having some mental issues…and not the usual ones. She has reluctantly committed to heading up a school fundraiser which hopes to raise $10,000. Oh and yes, she is once again the class mom of her son’s class!
So much for some Jen time!
But in this hilarious, incredibly relatable story we empathize as Jen sarcastically, comically plods her way through life. As she tries to hold herself together and keep control of her uncontrollable family, she does encounter some obstacles. And of course there is drama. Someone is bullying Max and he will not tell anyone why. Jen’s daughter’s baby daddy who found out late he was a dad, and his mother who lives in India are trying to take her granddaughter away for an extended trip back to India.
Her parents are acting strange. Staying in their pajamas all day. Forgetting to eat. Forgetting to get up from the kitchen table all day. It may be time to look for an assisted living facility, something Jen is dreading.
The school fundraiser group which Jen has aptly named We Fundraise Until Kingdom Come Team or WeFuckT for short has three women with the exact same name with one who does not do social media anything. Sadly, they are out of ideas as to how on earth to raise so much money.
With Jen’s cornucopia of problems, and her best friend now living in another state, can she push through and get everything done? But of course! And she craftily solves her dilemmas with love, empathy, anger and of course humor. My only wish would be we get to continue to read more of Jen’s misfortunes. I am addicted.
Thank you #NetGalley #HenryHoltandCo. #LaurieGelman #YogaPantNation for
Third one by this author and it’s still totally relatable. I feel like she’s every mom I know and someone who would be a great friend to raise some Cain with.
I’m looking forward to reading about her antics when the kid hits high school.
This was the first book I've read from thus author. Thank you for the opportunity! I loved reading along to such relatable stories. Perfect read for any busy mom!
I love these characters so much. Each book has made me laugh out loud. This one though went a little deeper with family drama. I hope for so many more books with these characters
I loved the other books in this series, so I was excited to get this book. I enjoyed it and it was a quick read. I love the way these books are written and the humor in them.
Class Mom strikes again!
I LIVE for these books. I live for the sarcastic, aggressive and hilarious class mom style emails and I'd probably read these if Gelman wrote 20 of them. I just LOVE the characters she writes, their banter, THE WIT and the sarcasm,
If you haven't yet read the prior two - please pick them up, love them, devour them and then come back and pick up this third installment!
Yoga Pant Nation is the third book in the Class Mom series. It is just as funny as the other two books. You can read as a standalone but you will want to go back and the read the first two in the series. If you ever have volunteered at your children’s school, you will get Jen and her snarky emails and comments. The book also touches on aging parents, her being a grandmother and her becoming a spin instructor. A laugh out loud fun read. Thank you to NetGalley and Henry Holt and Company for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
First, I want to thank Netgalley, Henry Holt & Co, and Laurie Gelman for allowing me to read and review the last book in this hilarious series before it’s pub date. It’s a bittersweet feeling when you know you’re reading the last book in a series. You can’t stop turning the pages but also want to slow down & savor it.
Jen Dixon is used to juggling anything that comes her way. So when she’s asked to be the head of the fundraising committee and raise $10k for her son’s elementary school, she has no choice but to take the challenge head on. Add in being a new spin instructor, a grandmother, and a class mom, and you get one wild ride.
Ok, I wanted to like this one. I really did. Especially because of how much I liked the first one. But it fell flat for me. There were still some laugh out loud moments and parts that I really enjoyed, but for me, it just seemed like it was more of an outline of someone’s life rather than a wild and crazy story. As much as I love Jen Dixon and want to be her best friend, this one was just ok.
Check out Yoga Pants Nation on its pub date 7/13!
Laurie Gelman's third installment of the Class Mom series had me laughing out loud, rooting for Jen once again, and hoping that this isn't the last that we see of these flawed, funny and relatable characters. In Yoga Pant Nation, Jen is tasked with leading a new fundraising crusade and she encounters more hilarious obstacles mixed in with just the right amount of feel-good moments. We are also treated to some adorable scenes starring the newest addition to the family... Jen's two-year old granddaughter Maude. (Yes, we know that it's an old lady name but it suits her perfectly!)
If you enjoyed Class Mom and You've Been Volunteered, this should be your top pick for the summer. It is light-hearted, touching, and filled with the uproarious class-mom-in-yoga-pants humor that only Laurie Gelman can so perfectly deliver.
This third entry in the Class Mom series, out 7/13/21, is just as fun, funny, and relatable as the first two books. Our favorite class mom, Jen Dixon, is back, and now is class parent for 5th grader, while also juggling being a young grandmother to a 2 year old, aging parents, being a newly certified spin teacher, and running a PTA fundraiser, with her usual snarky class and PTA emails included. If you haven’t read this series yet, and are looking for a light, quick, humorous mom read, go back and start with the first book, Class Mom. And if you loved the first two books, you’ll love this one too.
Fun, snappy read about the trials and tribulations of Jen Dixon, class mom extraordinaire, as she navigates her way through her son's final year in elementary school. From heading up the annual class fund raiser to chaperoning the class on the overnight school trip, the laughs are nonstop as Jen's witty sense of humor confronts everything from unattainable fund raising goals to kids that don't necessarily follow all of the rules. Intermixed with the comedy, Jen deals with family issues that many readers will be able to relate to, such as the care of her aging parents and the custody struggle surrounding her granddaughter. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would read more from this author!
Thank you to NetGalley and Henry Holt and Company for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. I have read all the books by Laurie Gelman, and I was anxiously looking forward to this title as well. There were parts of this book that were laugh out loud funny. This book shines a lot of truths on the mom circuit that seems to occur at every school. I was always the one who got sucked into running fundraising efforts, volunteering and being class mom. I WISH I'd been snarky enough to send some of the emails Jen Dixon does. She juggles her elementary age son, her two year old granddaughter, and is starting to run her own exercise classes...so easy to relate to, so funny and so well done. I can't wait for the next one.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
Jen Dixon is back!!!!!!!!! She is at it again - this time the class mom for Max's 5th grade class. She has been coerced into doing this thankless job, again. In addition, the PTA president wants her to head up a fundraiser to replace the 4th & 5th grade tablets. This does not include the outside world of being a part-time caregiver of her granddaughter, Maude, becoming a badass spin instructor, and dealing with elderly parents. What is a girl to do?
This book will keep you laughing at the hilarity of real life. We have all been there at one point in our lives. I think most people will be able to see themselves in Laurie's books some point. I am looking forward to whatever she writes next.
Fun to come back to these characters again. A few storylines were started and not really tied up, would have liked more on Max. Maybe there will be a 4th?
The third novel in the Class Mom series does not disappoint! While this novel does dip it’s toes into some more personal and emotional topics it doesn’t take away from the light, easy and fun read that readers are looking for when they pick up one of these books! Jen Dixon is back for another round as class mom with all her typical sarcasm!
Did not read. This sounded cute and fun, but realized when I saw the title on Goodreads that is is the third in a series.
I really wish Netgalley would be better about marking series items so I don't request something thats in the middle of a series I don't want to start. Please add series numbers in the title!
I love this series of books. They are so funny and I really identify with Jen Dixon. This book was not my favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed reading it. My oldest son is in 4th grade, so her commentary on Max really hit home for me. I just find her wit so on point with what I'm going through! Thanks to @netgalley for the advance copy.
I’ve never been a PTA Mom, a Class Mom, or a Mom at all, but I’ve loved all three of the Class Mom books. Yoga Pant Nation, like the author’s first two Class Mom books is very funny and it’s a great book to settle into a comfortable chair and read after a stressful day. Gelman writes in the first-person voice of her protagonist Jen in a breezy style that is easy for the reader to follow and relate to. I guarantee you’ll laugh out loud while reading it. The sub-plots in Yoga Pant Nation venture more into serious territory than the previous two books in the series. The three sub-plots involve Jen’s son being bullied by a classmate, a child custody dispute involving Jen’s daughter and her granddaughter’s father who is under the control of his overbearing mother, and Jen’s need to deal with her aging parents who may or may not be able to continue to live independently. I don’t necessarily have a problem with interjecting serious subplots into a light humorous novel but with three of them running concurrently throughout the book the story at times seemed to get bogged down. Never fear however, because Jen being the unflappable woman that she is, neatly gets all three sub-plots wrapped up with aplomb by the end of the book.
This book is the third in a series. While I have not yet read the first two books, this one was still enjoyable and I will be going to read them. I found the banter with the main character enjoyable.
I truly enjoy this series! Third book in and I'm still laughing. Every room parent or PTA member should read this. I am sad if this truly is the last book in the series! I will miss the funny and quirky Jen Dixon!
