This is the story of Francesca Cavendish, Countess Mont-Claire and a spy known as the Devil of Dorset.
As we learned from the previous stories, Lady Francesca is in the path to avenge the deaths of her parents and other people in her live in events that are detailed at the beginning of this book, but there’s a lot more to both her and her hero.
This is a story I was really looking forward to read since I getting a glimpse of the character in the previous stories. I liked the friendship and interactions the Rogues have as friends and how the new husbands are brought to the forefront of Francesca’s fight. Also the relationship with Chandler if we can take aside the constant reminder of the secrecy and his hung up with the past which I’m not going to delve in to avoid spoilers.
On the other hand, the book fell short to my expectations in more than one way like the fact that the hero’s identity doesn’t take much to figure out if one has been paying attention. Then, the so well hidden secrets the main characters are keeping from each other are not a mystery to a fairly smart reader and there is also some incongruence along the story and it all ended up being a little floppy for me.
This book has everything you want from a Kerrigan Byrne book. Heartbreaking backstories, proactive heroines and lick-worthy heroes, but of. Course we cannot forget the half-truths and secret identities. O god the secret identities. This has become a staple of a Byrne book, I am a bit disappointed when there is none haha. However, this one has it in spades. Its always interesting to see how the truth will come out. I like it when its super dramatic, and so when the first reveal was well…revealed I was a bit disappointed.
I was like… what? You are just gonna tell her…no drama! But then I got it. It makes sense. (On a side note, I read another book were there is absolutely no drama when revelations happen so I was totally disappointed, so when I picked up this one I wanted the DRAMA). Then the 2nd reveal (well more like 2nd identity reveal cuz there are way more revelations in the books than I can count), OMG men can be so stupid. I have to say, the men in this series make sooo many mistakes and can be so stupid I have a hard time believing it (ok like yes its believable because the men’s reactions can definitely happen in the real world and probably happen way more than I think (hey im single and wanna stay this way), cuz men can be very stupid)
Ok have I mentioned that men can be stupid… especially regarding women’s sexuality. This series explored more than we are used. Yes its historical romance and there is sex in it. There has been consent discussions sparking from these books and more consensual sex in the books so thats great, but I want to commend Kerrigan Byrne from adding more layers to the discussion, especially about sex work. However in this book, the fact that despite her reputation the fact that Pippa was a “virgin” has boggled me a bit. I definitely understand the appeal of like “o she has only been mine and will only be mine and yada yada” (and to be honest, I have read some books where the male characters have been virgin and as a women I find It well …um… interesting tho they always end up being amazing at sex…obviously) but at the same time I dont get why she never indulged. I understand her drive. I understand that the hero discovered that she is not as she is perceived. But like why is she a virgin, why couldn’t she be like: yeah I slept with 2-3 people it was fine whatever but like I am not sleeping with everyone I go out with cuz I am trying to search for the killer. Simple, concise and to the point. Ok whatever ill not bore you guys with this rant anymore.
In conclusion, it Kerrigan Byrne, the books amazing!
While this 3rd book in the series centered about 3 women who became fast, close & devoted friends as young women at a ladies boarding school as well as each others' only family carries over some of the plot from the prior book, it still stands very much on its own. Francesca and Chandler are two people with dark and haunted pasts, are determined, clever, occasionally devious, daring and also full of secrets and hidden talents. There are plenty of sparks between the two. There is also plenty of intrigue going on as they both delve into the darkness behind the gilt of society and power halls of government in search of a mix of justice and revenge to keep the pages turning. The supporting cast of Francesca's two friends and their husbands (from the prior books) adds to the story. While I enjoyed the two together, I didn't really feel we got to see them fall in love and become a team as they were often fighting (each other or their feelings), on opposite sides or attempting to protect the other rather than actually working together toward their mutual goal. If you're looking for sweet or lots of romance, this may not be not be quite the book for you, but if you want a well written story filled with passions, interesting characters with depth and plenty of plot containing twists, turns and love then you may want to give this one a try.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! THIS BOOK! I knew Francesca's book was going to be intense, but I had no idea what I was in for!

We finally get Francesca’s story. Francesca has been the strongest and fiercest of the Red Rogues but we have only seen glimpses of her dark history. Francesca is strong, outspoken, intelligent, and unapologetic. She is who she is and will not be shamed for it. I LOVED HER! She is an amazing heroine! She has one focus, taking down the people that killed her friends and family. Alexandra, Cecelia and their significant others are here to help Francesca exact her revenge. But it is the Devil of Dorset that will be the instrumental to this story.
The Devil of Dorset is on a singular mission, taking down the Crimson Council. The Devil can become anyone and has made deception his life and an art form. He is a spy, an assassin and when he is sent on a mission someone will usually die. As his investigation into the Crimson Council continues, he begins to cross paths with Lady Francesca and for the first time in his life, he is intrigued by someone. But can he trust her?
The Devil needs to know what Francesca is up to and the ruses begin. Both on the same mission, but both so distrustful they can’t let the other in. So many secrets, so many lies, so many deceptions. What will happen when the truth finally comes out?
The Devil in Her Bed, is an incredibly suspenseful historical romance. The twists, turns and secrets kept me guessing through the entire book. This book had me captivated from the heartbreak and destruction in chapter one all the way to the HEA.
The Devil in Her Bed is an original, suspenseful, edge of your seat romance with fascinating characters you can’t help but root for and I simply loved it! I fell in love with all three Red Rogues, and their stories and this book / series gets all my recommendations!
Francesca and Chandler were childhood friends, along with Francesca's twin brother Ferdinand, and Pippa, who lived in Mont Claire with her parents and Francesca's family. Chandler wasn't his name back then. He was known as Declan. There was a massacre at the place where everybody was supposedly killed, including the women and children, and the place was torched. It was now known as the Mont Claire Massacre and there were two survivors. They're both seeking revenge and have been for a long time even if one didn't know about the other until they found themselves at a social gathering.
This is a hard review to write because one wrong word could ruin the book for others. I don't want to do that because this was a fantastic read. There's action, mystery, diabolical people who are up to their necks in evil and are consumed by greed and, of course, the Red Rogues and their men. Ramsey, Cecilia's husband, has an especially strong part in this story (see their story All Scot and Bothered, Book 2). It was good to see him again and see him in action.
Francesca is a strong woman. If you're looking for a damsel in distress, you won't find her here. She's wicked smart, courageous, and physically able to take care of herself. It isn't because she's a misandrist. She isn't at all. It's that she's been trying to get her revenge on the people who killed her family and had to do it on her own. Nobody could help her. She's doing whatever it takes to meet her goal. She backs down to no one,no holds barred.
Chandler. Wow. He's a master of disguises and able to keep his cool under pressure, but underneath that exterior lurks a man who is raw and full of passion. He's just as determined to find these murderers as Francesca is and admires her strength and resolve, but still wants to protect her when she wants nothing to do with that. These two are fire together. The tension between them screams from the screen and the love scenes about incinerated my Kindle. It's still smoking and there are scorch marks around the buttons on it.
This is a dark story with plenty of angst, which are elements I like in any story and makes Kerrigan Byrne a favorite of mine. Her stories and characters are unforgettable. With that being said, I do want to say I loved the ending of the book. It was sad for Francesca until it wasn't.
I loved everything about this.
Although this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.
The third book in this series is as good as the other 2. This has been a good series for the Red Rogues. Francesca is out to avenge the deaths of her family and friends of her youth. She is working her way through the people involved. She has spent years learning skills of weapons and strength. Wow is she something when she goes into action. But I admit my heart was in my throat often. The book was full of suspense. I enjoyed the book.
Loved Francesca’s bad-assness but 65% in before a love scene left me a tad frustrated. Good story otherwise. Steam-meter 6/10

I haven't read many of Kerrigan Byrnes books and started this series at book two, but let me tell you, I will be going back to read the first in the series asap and then check out more of her books. She writes great historical romance with some heat, but spends more time on her character development. I adored book two of the Devil You Know series. Sadly, I have to say I didn't love this one. I liked it quite a bit and some parts I loved, but there were some things that I didn't like. At. All.
It starts off great giving us backstory into Francesca's life as a young girl and who she loved, including a troubled teen, before it was destroyed by evil men. It gives us a look into the driving force in her life. Revenge. She is determined to find and expose or worse the group of men responsible. That was all great. Enter the "hero". He has many names and looks (he was creeping around in the previous book) and he has always loved Francesca, but he's determined to prove the one in front of him is a fake. They interact regularly although she's not always aware and I have to ask why? Although it all works out at the end, and the hero speech at the end was awesome, he went drama queen over the things Francesca did, even though he did very similar things. This book is definitely worth reading if you can overlook some odd things.
Below this line might be considered spoilers: Read at your own risk -
She was in love with a teenager, so his looks wouldn't have changed that much so why didn't she recognize him? Yes, he wore disguises most of the time, but not all. Yes, she thought he was dead, but come on, could she not have wondered and dismissed it as her going crazy.
And he was in love with Francesca his whole life, even though she's supposed to be dead. He loved her so much, he can't remember her eye color? Maybe what the author was going for was that he wasn't really in love with her as a teenager which explains how he falls for our Francesca. I don't know, I just had a major issue that they didn't recognize each other. And when they finally did find out their realizations were dragged out. Let's just say I rolled my eyes A Lot.
The Devil in Her Bed is the third book in the Devil You Know series by Kerrigan Byrne. A steamy historical romance that sweeps you away. The storyline was captivating and pulls you in from the beginning. The characters are well-written with an undeniable chemistry that makes for steamy romantic scenes that will take your breath away. The Devil in Her Bed has just the right touch of darkness, which is a great contrast to the light at the end of the journey. If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend going back to #1 in the Devil You Know series. I look forward to reading the next book in the Devil You Know series.
I absolutely loved it! Haven't read much historical romance lately but I adored it. We get spicy romance and a mystery too. Definitely one to check out.
This is the third book in the Devil You Know trilogy by Kerrigan Byrne. It brings together Francesca and Chandler...the Devil of Dorsett. 20 years ago Francesca's family was massacred and her home burned to the ground. Her life's purpose since then has been revenge and she has worked hard to strengthen her mind and body to avenge all she has lost. But she has kept a secret all these years.
Chandler was a young boy living at the Manor when the massacre occurred. Living with his own secrets he has become an agent of the crown....a spy...always living under the personna of another, working out his own revenge.
When Francesca and Chandler get together again their worlds combust. Their chemistry is fierce as is their passion. They work together, and fight together, to dismantle the evil Crimson Council. Will they be able get past their lies to build something for their future? Sit back and enjoy the ride!

So. I liked it, the romance definitely has high points of enjoyment (like only Byrne can do), the chemistry was DEFINITELY there. The bad guy is quite bad too as for most of the author's novels, which I weirdly often find it to make the story more charming and Francesca is the epitome of the strong heroine, which I LOVE; I mean I loved her in general, we need more heroines like her.
But, there is but. There are some peripheral things that I didn't particularly enjoyed...Chandler, nice chap, super hot too, I love the disguising skills, I loved his character in general, I even venture to say that I think he's one of the most interesting heroes Byrne has created, but at the end <spoiler>he is a bit of a d***, let's face it, but what probably annoyed me more is that Francesca put up with it, and kept professing her love, while he was being a d***. </spoiler>
Secondly, both him and Francesca have this devotion towards <spoiler> the "real" Francesca, which I get completely...but I don't get why there isn't as much expressed love for those poor two parents of Francesca who died in the same tragedy, who are also described as very nice, loving people...not many words of love are voiced for them (or at least not many compared to those for the "real" Francesca).
Also, let's bare in mind that Francesca/Poppy is a child when the tragedy happens, and I have nothing against young loves...but feeling undying love at that age, to the point that you also keep yourself screened from any other possible romantic involvement until the age of 30, and you love only one person, who you also think dead...to me seems a bit unrealistic. Also for the 19th century.</spoiler>
That said, still a very enjoyable reading, which I would definitely recommend and I always cannot wait for what's next in Byrne's saga!
Kerrigan Byrne is quickly becoming one of my favorite romance authors and her dangerous heroes are just *chef's kiss*
If you hate suspense, plot twists and tense situations and primal attraction between the main characters, then don’t choose this book. Because it has all of that and more. Once you start reading, you can’t put it down! Secrets, lies and disguises, yup, we’ve got that too. Sprinkle in a dash of revenge, and you’ve got Declan and Francesca’s story. As the final book in the Red Rogues trilogy, story lines are wrapped together and brought to conclusion. Kerrigan’s writing is very engaging, I could not put the story down once I started it. All in all, a well-written, fun historical read.
I received an ARC for free from NetGalley and am leaving this review voluntarily.
This finale book of the Red Rogues trilogy was excellent work from Kerrigan Byrne. Exceptionally lush, lyrical prose, paired with deep and dark themes, violence and sex. Plot lines that began in the prior two books were fully expanded on and brought to conclusion. I was surprised at a twist near the end, which is always fun for me, as I generally figure out the twists. KB is a must-read author for me, and I look forward to diving into more of her work.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of The Devil in Her Bed by Kerrigan Byrne.
The Devil of Dorset and Francesca Cavendish are both strong characters. There were times from the romance standpoint where it was unclear how much they respected and loved each other. Francesca expressed her disagreement with things he said in physical ways that I feel were not conducive to building a loving and respectful relationship. There were also the secrets which I feel were a hindrance to the romance between them. They were both in some ways stuck in their pasts for a portion of the story. They are a product of their pasts so in that context I suppose their responses to various situations fit. They did have a great deal of sexual tension and chemistry.
Overall, I enjoyed this story. There were a lot of things happening that kept me reading along with some surprise reveals. Kerrigan’s writing is always excellent and engaging.
I’m looking forward to her next book.
This one had so many twist and turns, I can't even decide which in this trilogy I liked best! They were all good! That prologue chapter also gutted me. Declan/Chandler and Pippa/Francesca, I really loved seeing their relationship develop even with the false identities of the two and both are trying to figure out who the other is and if they've met before. Great revenge story. I look forward to what's next by Kerrigan!
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Pippa Hargrave lost her whole family, the family that employed hers and her very best friends all on one horrible day. She waas miraculously saved and grew up thirsting for revenge….and spent her adulthood getting it.
Declan Chandler thought he was the only survivor and lived with the same thirst for vengence.
Ms. Byrne pens a compelling tale of two people determined to avenge the deaths of those they loved, not knowing that both had survived the bloody massacre. Her characters are well fleshed out and her descriptions are vivid. She successfully mixes bits of humor with her intrigue and romance.
I highly recommend this book if you like your historical romances with intrigue and strong characters.
I received an ARC from NetGAlley gratis and offer my opinion in the same vein.
Kerrigan Byrne's writing and plotting was as beautifully sinister and seductive as ever, but sadly I felt poor Francesca was left hanging by her love interest and besties. As she fought and connived to bring justice for her murdered family, Francesca was mostly alone or abandoned by those she most loved: first, her beloved Declan who was believed dead and instead found still in love with the memory of another girl and then second, by her fellow Red Rogues after they found domestic bliss with their spouses. Francesca was completely on her own fighting her own battles and often battling those that should have been on her side.
"I am a woman in search of answers. A professional liar, same as you. I’ve trained for this my entire life. Allowed myself to want for nothing else but truth and justice for those who are dead, and I’ll get that with or without your help."
Declan may have been head over heels attracted to Francesca, but he hardly realized who she really was, even by the end. This is a woman who has survived the most vicious of attacks only to become an incredibly deft vigilante in her own right. Declan not only doesn't see her for who she is, he hardly recognizes her true worth.
“I imagine you’re not paragon of chastity,” she spat. “My purity and my virginity are not one and the same. It doesn’t matter how many men I’ve had, I am fucking pure as the driven snow, and no one will make me feel otherwise.”
And where was the girl power solidarity? For a series about the incredible trio of survivors aka Red Rogues, Francesca was completely unsupported by Alexandra or Cecelia. I most wanted an epilogue showing the three living their best lives while pursuing vigilante justice, but no, their saga just ended abruptly.
It is difficult to discuss The Devil In Her Bed without giving away major spoilers. As always, a Kerrigan Byrne historical delivers the most twistiest of spectacular romantic yearnings, but I wanted so much more for Francesca.
The third book in this trilogy is all about hidden identities and revenge. When Pippa was young a terrible event saw her losing her family, her friends and her home but she's reinvented herself and taken on the identity of her deceased friend Francesca. Her only abiding desire now is to hunt down the people behind the murders. Yet as she gets closer to answers she keeps getting blindsided by a man with his own agenda and perhaps it's not too dissimilar to Francescas . However that would mean trusting someone who isn't at all who they pretend to be !
Secret identities cause a lot of problems here as this couple navigate their very tumultuous relationship. I really enjoyed the dialogue as its crass, course, shocking and such fun . In spite of the rascally Declan fooling people with all manner of daft , incongruous disguises to my mind it's Francesca with her dyed red hair that had me rolling my eyes . Honestly the carpet and curtains wouldn't match ! Yep when it comes to passion and good old sex clearly men are blind.
This was another cracking read from this author. Perhaps not my personal favourite but definitely a good way to end this trilogy about these three passionate and headstrong women. Perhaps the way it ends isn't exactly how I wanted it to finish but at least the three friends all get their happy ever after.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
