Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldn’t get into it at all.
I was really excited to read this book, but eventually I was very disappointed. While I loved that it was told from the male perspective, there was too much instalove for my taste and the story itself was sadly not what I had been hoping for. With my expectations not fulfilled and, in fact, horribly disappointed, I will not continue this series.
I received a free ARC by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had a lot of fun reading this book, the premise is what caught my eye, it really was a great premise and I enjoyed getting to know Darrin.
Incredibly weird book yet so fast-paced and fun! The writing kept me on the edge of my seat and it flowed rather nicely from page to page. As for the plot, I enjoyed how Farmer incorporated famous figures from Hollywood and I enjoyed uncovering the mystery alongside the protagonist.
Overall, I enjoyed this and will look out for the sequel!
This book was well written , the way the author enveloped each character was amazing. The plot is unique very easy to read ,
WoW what can I say? This book was nothing like I've ever read before! And that's the most amazing part.
This was beyond good. It was so entertaining. Enjoyable. Crazy wild ride.
Counterfeit Lover is a page-turner that keeps the reader engaged, guessing, and rooting for Darrin! A fun thriller with a cliff-hanger ending so can't wait for the next book in the series!
I'll be honest, this wasn't for me. The book was well written and captivating, it just was not my cup of tea on a personal level. I thoroughly hope others enjoy it more than I did.
Counterfeit Lover by J C Farmer is a strange and wild ride of a novel. It's very creative, but you have to be willing to suspend your disbelief for the whole book. The main character wasn't believable: he seemed to possess whatever personality trait was necessary in the moment to fit the plot. The romance was great; it was consistent and there's just a bit of steam. The writing itself is great, easy to read, and clear.
Honestly, this is a hard book to rate. I have so many good things to say about it, but despite the constant action, it was slow and tedious. But still fun? But it took me a long time to finish. I would prob rate this a 3.5/5 but keeping it at 3 since I can't do half stars. Ultimately, though it was enjoyable, I didn't enjoy it enough to want to read what comes next.
Take my review for whatever's it's worth. Thank you for Acorn Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this in exchange my honest review.
Wanting to take a break from my favorite contemporary romance stories, I decided to give this book a go. With unusual twists and mystery right until the very end, I have to admit that this book kept my attention till the last page. Even though I’m not a fan of romantic thrillers, and sci-fi is at the bottom of my reading preferences, I liked this fast-paced journey where romance, science fiction, and mystery are greatly intertwined.
Darrin Clarke and Janie Norman are two best childhood friends, who are connected by deeper feelings than simple friendship. Both of them are struggling to succeed and pursue their dreams in Hollywood. He is willing to go through anything to make it big in Hollywood, especially Janie Norman. Thrown into a movie set with a new identity, trying to understand everything that is happening, seeing the best of Hollywood under the threat of modern technology, Darrin’s only wish remains to keep his loved one alive. He goes from one adventure to another and each one proves to be more dangerous and life-threatening. Will he succeed?
This imaginative thriller will take you on a journey into the magical world of Hollywood and you’ll meet all the famous icons of the past. Reading about current and former icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Tesla Elvis, James Dean is something that really makes this book even more compelling. The author skillfully presented each character, adding details about their personality and achievements. Add the threat of modern-age technology, and it’s guaranteed that this book will keep you on the edge of your seat, eagerly turning the pages, attempting to discover what happens next. The plot was quite refreshing, unpredictable, and truly engaging. It was greatly paced for the better part of the book, and the few slow parts can be ignored if we consider the rest. The main characters are well-developed, relatable, and complex at the same time. We see them as the driving force of all the dynamics of the story as well as the bearers of common sense amidst all that craziness.
Good pacing, smooth prose, unusual action scenes, and a dash of romance make this book a really good choice for every reader. I normally am not inclined to read this type of story, but surprisingly I’ glad I did read this one. Romance, science fiction, and mystery never seemed like a good combination, until I read this one. And trust me the devastating cliffhanger will leave you hungry for the next installment.
First of all I would like to thank you NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book in return for an honest opinion
AsYou can tell from my rating this book felt short for me as the writing was quite dry and as I could not feel anything for the characters let alone the story. I’m sure a counterfeit lover would work for another audience but that audience with not me.
The premise was quite interesting which is why I picked this up in the first place but there was so much going on that it was hard to get into the story which made it a lot more difficult to keep on reading until the end.
That is why I give this book out one star and I hope it finds its audience.
This was not what I was expecting. I was intrigued by the description and while thrillers aren’t usually my thing this book kept me on the edge of my seat.

Overall a solid 4 stars! I really liked this book, it kept me on my toes and couldn't wait till I could finish reading it. Definitely a book I would recommend.

Goodness y’all this one threw me for a loop! Very good read but sometimes I did have a difficult time keeping up with the characters. Amazing writing and storyline!
I enjoyed this book, I found myself thinking "what if" Long after I was finished. It was chilling to see how much one is willing to change to obtain a one sided love. I was committed all the way through.
This is my first JC Farmer book and it didn’t disappoint.
It’s about 2 struggling actors making it to Hollywood with face alteration. A bit weird at first, but good suspense vibes and mostly on the hero’s POV. If you like romantic thrillers like this, then it’s your book. I don’t usually read this kind of genre but I was intrigued by the cover. I liked it. I thought it’s more like a Jackie Collins book when I get to browse it on my feed but I was in for a shock.
It was a fast-paced thriller-suspense with a tinge of romance set in Hollywood. But beware; this has a cliff-hanger ending!

This book was the perfect escape. It was lovely and fun. It was my first book by this author and I will definitely be on the look out for more!!
Firstly, the cover was really good. Okay, the synopsis was very interesting so I wanted to give it a try. I'm not a huge mystery/thriller reader but this one was good. It kept my attention from beginning to finish. Thank you for this arc and I can't wait to read the sequel.
This was such a good book different from what I normally reach for, I thought it was great from start to finish!
I was immediately pulled into this book with its gorgeous cover. The content is also really enjoyable, although I'm somewhat confused on how to rate it.
I can honestly say I loved how unique and gripping the plot was, with your regular broke guy Darrin becoming rich and famous thanks to face-altering procedures from a film studio. However, soon he finds out there's more he has to give up than his old appearance. But the plot doesn't slow down here; there are mysteries creeping up, and his old out-of-his-league crush Janie also joins the studio and goes through the same procedures as him.
Weird, unique and fun!
But at the same time, I found a number of elements to be incredulous, for instance Janie joining the company of all people. And most importantly - there is a cliffhanger. You may look forward to part two, but also I have mixed feelings about this.
