I think I have a new favorite author. I loved this one so much! Sunny offers a fresh voice and a new way to view the relationship we have with technology. I loved the friends that Sunny made and the way she adapted to Camp Sunshine. I really liked the setting and loved that the romance wasnt the whole focus. This was really great!
This book was exactly what I wanted, an easy, enjoyable, and quick read! Sunny was a little annoying at times but not enough to make me hate her character - so thats good. The character growth was positive, so that's all that I can ask.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
This was super fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had me laughing and cringing along with the relatable embarrassing moments that Sunny experienced. Sunny’s character growth was refreshing and had me reflecting on my use of cell phones and technology as it explored the good and bad they can play in our lives. It’s all in how we use them and finding balance. They can even enhance our connections. I liked how the author approached the topics of familial and societal expectations and pressures and micro-aggressions with regards to race. And of course I enjoyed the romance aspect of the book and the banter they had.
At a tender young age, Sunny Song inadvertently becomes a viral sensation “Goggle girl”. Now, as a teenager, she regularly hosts a somewhat successful YouTube vlog in order to recreate another viral sensation to leave behind #gogglegirl.

Except things go horribly wrong.
Her parents are fed up with her inattention to anything except social media. Her principle, worried about the school’s reputation, gives her an ultimatum — go to a Digital Detox camp or get expelled.
Sunny’s left with no choice but to go without her beloved phone and social media for 4 weeks.
But can she do it?
Even thought I started to lose interest in Sunny as a character about 75% of the way thru, this book did make me realize how easy it is to get addicted to social media and try to create this visage of a life and forget to actually live.
Overall, this was a good book. Loved the parts where Sunny learns to reconcile with her Korean Heritage while deconstructing why she let go of it in the first place - an experience a lot of immigrant/children of immigrants can relate to.
I wish the author had fleshed out the other characters more. Even the main character came off as a bit young in the way she talked. The romance also was a bit juvenile. The book itself was not bad, but it had the potential to be so much more.
Sunny is a teenage social media influencer that is sent to a digital detox camp at Sunshine Heritage farms Camp in Iowa. While there she learns a lot about herself and what she would like to accomplish in the future.
This is a charming story by Suzanne Park! I really enjoyed the humor in the story. I may have chuckled a few times! I loved the characters and especially the relationship Sunny had with Maya, Delina, and Theo. Wendy was the ultimate “mean girl” and added a lot of depth to the story. I would recommend this book to teen readers or anyone that enjoys a light, humorous read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I purchased this book for my high school library. My students have enjoyed it. and it has circulated well.
3.75/5 ⭐ to Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous by Suzanne Park. Big thanks to Sourcebooks Fire for an egalley copy to review! This was a quick, fun summer-y read that provides some food for thought around technology and gives us a cute teenage romance. We follow teen social media sensation Sunny Song who after both creating an unintentionally viral video as well as getting in trouble with her school's administration, gets sent to a media detox camp far away. The main problem? Sunny has a goal of reaching 100k followers and is getting pretty close, but just as she is leaving for the detox a video competition is announced with Sunny earning a nomination to enter. And, winning this would put her follower count over the edge. Thus, Sunny creates a plan to secretly film and post her entry without getting caught. I quite enjoyed the setting of this media detox camp! The writing was vivid and I could really picture this place. Also as we follow Sunny's experience going through this program we get a real sense of the ethos and rhythm of the place which added life to the story. Building this, I also quite enjoyed getting to know the other teens that Sunny meets and learn about their backstories. Plus, there's a rivalry between Sunny and another girl which adds some drama and tension to the story! We do get a romance in the story which was pretty cute & fun to read about - your classic camp relationship. Lastly, I wanted to talk about one of the main themes of the book, which has to do with the oversaturation of electronics and social media in our lives. Though it may have felt a touch intense at times, for effect, I do think its a good reminder for readers to evaluate their own use of social media in their lives and the impact that can have. I definitely look forward to what this author will write next, and I do recommend checking out this book if you're looking for a good, fun YA contemporary (particularly for readers on the slightly younger side of YA).
This was a cute story. I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. Sunny was hilarious at times. She also learned invaluable lessons. I believe this is my favorite of Park's yet!
Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy.
My rating:☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️(5/5)
Sunny is an aspiring youtuber. Once her following staggers she decides to post and go live more. In one of her lives she accidentally films a PG-13 cooking video that goes viral. So viral within minutes of her taking it down word gets to her principal who calls her parents and getting her shipped to a digital detox camp. Just as she is reluctant on going a Starhouse full of content creators were looking for one more member. Sunny and her friend decide to film content for the friend to upload on her behave while she is gone and sneak a phone into the detox camp.

I loved this book! I love a lot of books but this one was so cute! Sunny ends up getting kicked to a detox camp and upon arriving she finds out shes not the only one with a career to uphold. There are plenty of well established "influencers" there with her. And by the looks of it the bigger the number the harder they are taking it being there. Right away she meets Theo whose family is running the farm. The campers are set into group counseling and are encouraged to do different activities throughout the camps. Sunny tried to always go to the activities ran by Theo. From the start she begins to have trouble with one of the other girls. She doesnt recognize her right away but the girl is acting like a major influencer. Through the letters with her friend back home she finds out her and the other girl are one of the finalist for Starhouse. As she and Theo get closer she is starting to really enjoy being at the camp and feels remorseful for bringing the phone. Especially after finding out they are doing their best to keep the farm running and in their hands. She finds out the camp also helps senior citizens in the area and in an attempt to get wifi access she volunteers to help the senior citizens with technology. Starhouse last requirement is to submit a video talking about her summer experience. In the process of submitting the last video for Starhouse she finds out the other girl has also snuck in a phone and weed. Sunny ends up getting caught though and Theo feels betrayed. Luckily though the other girl also ended up getting caught. And Sunnys real intentions of helping safe the camp came through. I loved this book and Sunny and Theos relationship throughout it was so cute! Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this book.
This was a cute story! I could see many relate to Sunny and her need to feel liked. Also, how she’s so confident online, but struggles with real life conversations. The romance between her and Theo was adorable!
Society today and social media etc is over the top. This was a great book to bury my nose in.
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for allowing me to read this.
So I'm not going to lie this book ended up being a bit funny to me because I'm a parent and while I would have definitely have made my daughter do a digital detox Im not sure I would have shipped her off to a camp. Not a bad idea though. I think this is a perfect book for this day in age.

I really enjoyed The Perfect Escape by Suzanne Park so I was excited to start this book. Alas, it was not that great. Sunny is such an annoying character in that she doesn’t act her age; I kept picturing her as much younger. The other characters were flat, and one-dimensional. Sunny also rambles. A LOT. It was not interesting. The romance wasn’t anything special, and the antagonist of this story didn’t have much of a rationale behind their actions. Overall, this was a miss.
What a refreshing story line and concept for young readers to experience. Plus the camp is set in Iowa! How fun
Sunny is a budding social media star... but it's gotten her in so much trouble at school that she's being sent to a social media detox camp for the summer. Iowa, to this California girl, is not good: there's no internet, no phones, no technology, no bestie, no crush, and no possibility to raise her star! But at the farm, Sunny learns that social media in moderation is an okay thing... and she catches a cute guy's eye, too.
Diverse reads:
- Sunny is Korean-American.
Audiobook ARC: The narrator is fun: engaging, diverse in different characters' speaking bits, and keeps the energy flowing.
3.5/5 stars
It took me multiple tries to get into t his book but once I got past that hump I did actually enjoy it. The last half of the book I probably wouldve given 4 stars but considering how long it took me to really start enjoying the story I had to settle on a slightly lower overall rating.
The relationship and friendships were super cute and enjoyable to read but I wish that my enjoyment level had started earlier in the story. I feel like some elements were brought up but never really got tied up smoothly and wouldve loved some more explanation or even exploration of some things. I will say the book did also make me think about my own social media consumption as well. Overall a decent read.
Such an adorable YA story.
A teen YouTuber who got caught filming brownie porn (iykyk) by her parents is sent off to a digital detox camp in Iowa.
It was cute, fast paced and totally binge worthy AND Theo made me swoon!! 🥰
Suzanne Park is and will always be an auto-buy author for me. So far I have LOVED everything she has written and I can’t wait to read what she writes next!! 👏🏼
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the lovely Suzanne Park for sending me an ARC for my honest review.
This was such a cute refreshing book about a korean teen blogger who just gets too into online and posting that her parents send her to a detox camp.
It was so relatable and honestly I would love a detox camp from my devices. I honestly loved the scenes with Sunny & the retirement home crew.
4/5 Def would recommend.
This is a cute YA contest piracy about a girl who learns how to stop and appreciate life. It’s cute, but not too much more to say about it. I was left a bit disappointed but it’s still enjoyable.
