It was a delight to read this book. There are multiple storylines, and a few romances going on. The book is set in two small towns where all the residents know each other and take care of their neighbors. While reading the book I felt like I was right there in real life with the characters. It’s a delight to read books written by Ms Thomas. She writes wonderful romances with a bit of suspense. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
4.5 stars.
A delightful read with wonderful characters.
Well-written and engaging, “Picnic in Someday Valley”, by Jodi Thomas (Kensington Books/Zebra), is a captivating story or stories, and I couldn’t put it down.
There is more than one romantic couple in the story and I wasn’t expecting to like it so much: the characters are all very different, yet all have a core of integrity and a passion that is so sexy when we find it in these devoted, besotted heroes.
I found each of these characters compelling and the romances unique and moving. Some of the stories are downright romantic in the classic sense, some have supposedly alpha, protective heroes (Brandon) making the most appalling Beta proclamations and turning into endearing male characters.
I was rooting for Jesse and his deserving a second chance at love and happiness and found Colby and Piper’s relationship passionate, confusing and absorbing.
This was very easy to read and love and I didn’t mind the stereotypes at all.
I was thrilled when I realized that Picnic in Someday Valley was the second book in the Honey Creek series. As I have mentioned before; Jody has the ability to draw me in with characters that you really care about.
I am not even sure who would be my favorite character in this series; I enjoyed them all.
Piper, the independent mayor and her Texas Ranger, Colby. I was a little frustrated with her on how she was treating Colby. I enjoyed the scenes between them and how they rallied the town together for the possible flooding.
Pesco married Kerry to protect her and her unborn child. He is so sweet to her. We get to watch as he comes into his own.
Brand was another of my favorites. He is such a mystery and has the strong silent type written all over him. He and Marcie were a cute couple. Marcie was a portrayal of someone trying to break the cycle of poverty and loser status.
Jessie is a widower with three kids. He finally has a connection with someone even if he never has the time to follow through. My favorite scenes with him were when he was helping the runaway.
It may feel that there are a lot of characters but I got so involved in their stories that I didn’t mind at all. I highly recommend this book, but I would also recommend reading the book one first so that you get the full impact of the characters and their journey.
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

In this book, we follow the stories of :
- Marcie a lonely singer who lived in a rusty trailer and Brand a lonely cow-boy
- Pesco a future deputy who works as a dispatcher and his pregnant wife Kerry
- Piper the mayor of Honey Creek and Colby a Texas Ranger who saved her live in the previous tome.
Nothing unsual for Jodi Thomas, as it was the same in her previous serie "Ransom Canyon" that I really enjoyed. But the problem is that this book is in fact the second tome of her new serie "Honey Creek" and I wasn't aware of it before reading this book. And you must defintely read this book before, otherwise you're going to loose the first glimpse in the relation beetween Piper and Colby. And I wondered it it wasn't the same for Pesco.
Moreover I found the story of Marcie quite brutal.
Ms. Thomas never disappoints, continuing with another terrific book in her Honey Creek, TX series. In addition to new of characters, she weaves previous stories throughout to keep us caught up in their quest for happiness. She gives us suspense, romance, and drama. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the advanced copy for my voluntary review.
This review will go to Goodreads about March 7, 2021, and Amazon on release day
I have read many Jodi Thomas books and I have really liked them. I had a hard time keeping track of everyone and all of the story lines in this book. If you haven't read the book before this one you may be a little confused. She tries to recap some of the action in the previous book throughout the story. I like how she includes people from the books in the continuing series. I am looking forward to the next book to see what everyone is doing.
I enjoyed this book, I loved the contemporary feel to it. I loved how it covered the lives of the different characters in the book. She also had a little suspense to it at the end. I liked how Pecos stepped in to be a father of someone else's baby. I liked how Jesse took care of his family and a runaway girl who turned her life around. I can go on and on what I love about this book, but i think you get the idea.
This is the third book I have read by Jodi Thomas, and I look forward to reading more. I am grateful that Netgalley let me read this in exchange for an honest review.
Lots of characters and stories in this book, makes it a bit difficult to read but you get there in the end. Lovely standalone but definitely a series coming. Would recommend this author.
I enjoyed reading this book. Didn’t realize it was part of a series but it was fine as a stand alone although Ill look forward to the next! The only thing I didn’t like was keeping track of all the different story lines. A few, ok but 4-5 is too many in my opinion. Romance + suspense for me are a win so I enjoyed it! Thanks NetGalley for the e-ARC!
I enjoy this series set in Honey Creek, Texas. This book is good but it has a few storylines going on at the same time. I would have liked not to have so many storylines. There is Piper, the Mayor, and Colby, the Texas Ranger. Brand a lone rancher with a mysterious past and Marcie, who was shunned because of her ex-boyfriend. He tried to kill the Mayor. Jesse is a widower and the bakery owner. Most of the storylines eventually intertwined except for Jesse’s. There is romance, drama and suspense. This book can be read as standalone but its best to read the series. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion.
Jodi Thomas continues her series set in Honey Creek Texas with more about the residents of this close knit community. Marcie Latimer has been shunned by everyone since she was involved in a tragedy that almost took the life of the town mayor Piper. Texas ranger Colby McBride comes to her rescue and they develop a relationship. Pesos Smith is happily awaiting the arrival of his baby girl. Follow the journey of these residents as well as others to find happiness in this small town. I love the way Jodi keeps you wanting to read more about this town and the people who reside there.
Thanks to Jodi Thomas and Kensington for this book!
This is a character driven novel that is a quick read. At times, remembering the characters and their names and places in the story was co fusing. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. This one was not a favorite but try it.
Another great read by this author. I love all of her books. It is easy to relate to all of the characters in this book and how they deal with their relationships. Highly recommended for those who love a great romance read
While I have loved Jodi Thomas since my early teens. This book is just a reminder why I love her writing so much. Thankful to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this novel.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. The town of someday Valle is a quiet town. Marcie's ex boyfriend set fire to a building and is now in jail. The mayor was in the building when it caught fire and was rescued by a ranger. I liked the cast of characters i enjoyed the chemistry between the mayor and the Texas ranger.
I couldn't put this down. I hope we visit our new friends in the next books. I picked this book up and was immediately hooked. I love that their were multiple characters finding love at the same time. I loved how they protected each other.
I highly recommend this book. It is a very entertaining read.
Thank you netgalley and Kensington book for allowing me to read this title for an honest review.
Back to small town America, we see PJ and Colby again.
This time we meet Marcie and Brand. Marcie, was down on her luck and Brand is a loner.
A bit of romance and some suspense. Some violence
Always enjoy Jodi's books
Great book. 4 different sets of lives all coming together for one massive plot... Though I did find that Jesse's story didn't fit quite in with the other 3. Leon was absolutely terrifying!!
A lot of character growth all around and a smooth flowing book made this hard to put down.
Definitely looking forward to the next book.
What a ragtag group of characters Jodi Thomas has created in PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY. First impression is that living in this time and place is certainly no picnic for its folk. They work hard and seem to have difficulty making time for play. But one thing is for sure, these folk have big hearts and value hard work, family, honesty and if they can find love then that is a pure bonus to their lives.
We are going to meet a bunch of folk in PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY. In fact at first I couldn’t grasp why we are being introduced to a rather eclectic bunch of characters with their unique story. They don’t seem to have anything in common least of which being connected in any real way. But that is exactly the strategy of Jodi Thomas. So we are invited to sit back and watch the action and actually feel part of the story as we meet and get better acquainted with some of the best characters.
Jodi Thomas is a gifted story teller and in PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY we are once again amazed at her creativity and imagination. The characters so richly described that they feel real. Their stories reach deep into your heart. All part of the plan. So here we are in Someday Valley about to step foot into Jodi Thomas newest adventure. Somehow all these characters lives become intertwined and each incident is guaranteed to make you grin and perhaps laugh out loud. As one character plainly states they don’t necessarily match but they fit.
There’s something in the air in Honey Creek and the surrounding towns, more precisely in the wind. There’s a storm brewing and it would appear there might be chaos in its wake. The good citizens of these small towns might wake up to some changes in their towns and lives after this storm. They say a good rain washes away a lot of ills. But for these folks the rising water may just uncover some truths better left unsaid. Even in such a lovely town there exists evil. So in PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY we are faced with this reality and hope that good will prevail.
Even in a group setting there are some that stand out and so Jodi Thomas picked out a half dozen to star in this latest story.
Jesse Keaton at his ranch with his children were slated to become a horse hotel of sorts. Piper, the mayor of Honey Creek, was busy getting people organized. Piper’s secret boyfriend Ranger Colby gave up any premise that this was to be a long awaited weekend together. The elusive Marcie shouldered guilt by association for a guy in prison. Marcie needed a safe haven. Pecos was the town dispatcher was commissioned to direct folks during the storm. Marcie found herself at Pecos elbow to maintain calm during the ensuing chaos. And let’s not forget Brand Rodgers self-appointed guardian of Marcie.
PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY follows a wondrous series of stories about unforgettable characters that live in or about an area known as Honey Creek. It’s no surprise that it has that mesmerizing quality that fans of Jodi Thomas expect. Jodi Thomas writes about lives than are enriched by the deeds that they do. I have never been disappointed with anything Jodi Thomas writes and so was very excited with the opportunity to read and review her newest Honey Creek novel, PICNIC IN SOMEDAY VALLEY.
