Thanks to NetGalley for early access to The Vow. I was immediately sucked in even though the fantastical elements took me a bit to get situated.
I appreciate the layers provided by the presence of different shifters and tribes. The animalistic and raw romance was satisfying and I’m excited to see where the characters might go next. My only gripe is more personal taste and less literary — I struggle with the male dominance role that was presented— the idea of males being the protectors and females being submissive. I realize that this falls in line with animal qualities and therefore makes sense here but it made my hackles rise while reading.
I enjoyed this book by Dannika Dark, that features Melody and Lakota - as Melody tries to get some help from a North American pack to build her fledgling business. Melody and Lakota, who knew each other when they were younger, find each other again resulting in some passionate encounters. Things become tense as they find themselves investigating the murders of some members of the community. An unusual phenomenon for me, with shifting being an integral part of the plot - though well worth a read. Many thanks to Tantor Audio and Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another amazing read from Dannika!! I absolutely love the breed world and was so excited when I learned that there would be another series. I was even more stoked to learn that these characters were familiar :)
Melody and Lakota’s story was not what I expected but was perfect! It’s so nice to see them as adults and pursuing their dreams! I’m excited to see which other characters are getting a story in this series! I love all the Native American shifter tribe world building. It was something I loved from past books and I enjoyed getting more in this book.
Audiobook: Nicole Poole is a goddess. Her narration truly brings stories to life. I love that I can recognize characters (even from other books) just from her voices. I really enjoy the way she performed this book!
Though this series is on it’s own, I would highly recommend reading the Seven series by Dannika Dark first. It gives these characters’ backstory.
I received an audiobook arc from the NetGalley & Tantor Audio in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this book! Dannika Dark is one of my favorite PNR authors, and she didn't disappoint with Melody and Lakota's story. Narration was great, although I would love to hear different narrators, because Dark has used Poole for each one of her books, so everyone sounds the same.
Native Americans defend their territory, traditions and packs. Melody, a shifter but brought up in a pack, depends on her understanding of tribal rituals as she seeks assistance from a pack in Oklahoma to provide gems for her new business venture with her best friend.
Fate brought childhood friends Melody and Lakota Cross, another shifter and her best friends brother, back together as they search to uncover who is murdering people in the community. Clues point to the Oklahoma packs involvement.
As they spend time together, Melody and Lakota have an attraction that is undeniable. Their desire is overwhelming and leads to passion that demands to be fulfilled but is intwined with tribal traditions.
The physical versus native spiritual body is referenced throughout the book.
It’s an interesting concept once the relationship is understood. The animal identified by the pack or Native American exemplifies its strength and
weakness. The packs goal is founded on strength and family is everything.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to review and provide feedback on “The Vow”.
I will post my review on Amazon.
