Listening to the audio version of Present Danger was much like sitting through the old "radio theater" productions. The narrator switched flawlessly between voices and built the suspense to a screaming pitch by the end.

Elizabeth Goddard's suspense is spot on in this first book of her Rocky Mountain Courage series. Starting with a plane crash that leads to a murder victim that leads to stolen artifacts that leads to.... another twist, another turn until her readers are wondering how Jack and Terra are ever going to survive the bullets flying their way.

Goddard's books have long been on my personal MUST READ lists. I'm thrilled that I finally got to this one!

Readers who enjoy clean romantic suspense with a side helping of faith should absolutely add Elizabeth Goddard to their preferred author list, and starting with Present Danger is a thrilling place to begin.

I had trouble getting into the story and keeping straight the plethora of characters. It felt like I was constantly being distracted from one thing to see what another character was doing "Here, look over here" style, and that made it hard to stay focused. Also, the length is too short for the scope of the crime, which resulted in too much telling and not the amount of showing I prefer; so the tale stayed a bit distant and formulaic.

I loved the big twist near the end and would have liked a little more time to see that relationship developed rather than just "they are working through it" and dismissed out of hand.

I'll still read the next in the series to see if it's a little better balanced in terms of pacing and number of characters.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required. This review is based off a finished paperback copy I own.

This is book 1 of the brand new series called “Rocky Mountain Courage”. I have read many books by this author so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this new book and start a new series!

I enjoyed being taken into the world of artifacts and learning about the history and unfortunately the world of smuggling rare and lost historical pieces. Terra and and Jack were great characters and worked well together as they begin to investigate a murder in the national forest which leads them down a dark road.

Lots of suspense, drama, and adventure with twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next book!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard is one of the best suspense books I’ve read this year. Present Danger is part of the Rocky Mountain Courage Series and is the first book in the series. Present Danger tells the story of Terra, a USFS Agent, and FBI Agent Jack as they are on the case to solve a murder that turns into something deeper than any one anticipated that involves international crime worlds. I loved the twist and turns of Present Danger and the surprises that popped up over halfway through the book. I loved the evolution of Jack and Terra’s relationship and how they learned about love. I highly recommend Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard and am looking forward to the next book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series! Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

I will give this book 3stars.

The story was well written but I struggled to finish it. I kind of lost interest in the story an had to put it down for a while.

This is still a book that keeps the mystery of "who dunnit" till the end and there is twist in the character background that was a bit unexpecting.

The background info into artifacts and thus was interessting but the FBI angle was a bit toned down.

The romance between the characters chould maybe have been explored ealier??

Overall after finishing the novel - I would say it a good story just hard to get to the end.

Loved the Cover that intrigued me

This is a suspenseful and intriguing story that was written by the very talented Elizabeth Goddard. The two main characters, Erin and Nathan, hold the reader’s interest as they try to solve the mystery of the past and how it directs the danger they face. This plot holds plenty of twists and turns, and it’s quite a page turner. if you enjoy reading Christian suspense fiction, you’ll ,love this book. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This one will stick with you unlike any book. Jack and Terra know each other from years past where he left. Now they must work together and not let anything interfere with their investigation, even past hurts. This should be your next read!!

I am reviewing a copy of Present Danger through Revell and Netgalley:

Jack Tanner is a former FBI Agent who is working as a detective in Montana when he comes across a body in the national forest during a search and rescue mission. He’s committed to finding the killer, even if it means working alongside his old flame, US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors.

After Terra discovers that the murder victim had ties to a powerful and dangerous trafficker of archaeological artifacts. It isn’t long before the investigation takes a deadly turn, one that hits to close from home. Terra fears she lacks the courage to face what comes next, Jack is more determined than ever to protect her. But he's failed her before. And if he fails this time, it will cost them far more than just their hearts.

I give Present Danger five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard - Lots of Intrigue, But Too Many Characters and Details Took Away from the Storyline

Since I had enjoyed Elizabeth Goddard’s earlier mysteries, I was excited to read her newest book, Present Danger the first book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series.

Present Danger is filled with suspense, mystery, and intrigue from the get-go. Private pilot Chance Carter is taking off with a package containing something illegal and headed to a small airstrip in Montana. He should have listened to that nagging uneasy feeling. But when his airplane is about to crash, he’s just trying to survive. The next two chapters seem disjointed from the first chapter. We are introduced to Sheriff’s Detective Jack Tanner and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors. They will be joining forces to investigate the questionable death of a local citizen, Jim Raymond, found in the forest. Jack and Terra’s relationship goes way back, but they haven’t seen each other in years. Their relationship didn’t end on a good note however they will strive to put their personal feelings aside and solve this case.

Parts of the book I found interesting, like learning about different aspects of law enforcement in remote forested areas and the illegal sale of Native American artifacts. However, I thought the book had issues that took away from the storyline and characters.

Present Danger very convoluted and packed with details that did not contribute to the story. There were too many characters, it was hard to keep track of all of them. While Jack and Terra had a history, there didn’t seem to be much romance between them. I kind of liked Jack, but his insecurities that he had carried with him all these years (not based on his own failings or history) got kind of old. It seemed like an unnecessary element and focus of the story. I can’t recall if Jack ever told Terra why years before he left town without saying goodbye. He didn’t come clean and explain what he had overheard her grandfather say. It bothers me when things in the storyline don’t make sense, like when a character does something illogical that puts themself in danger. Also, there came a point when Terra should have been removed from the case but she wasn’t. One of the biggest surprises at the end came out of nowhere and didn’t seem believable.

Elizabeth Goddard describes scenery really well so that the reader can imagine what the place looks like or the characters are experiencing. She’s done her research and knows jobs and locations well. But I don’t recommend this book because of the negatives in the story: too many characters; too many unnecessary details that distract instead of moving the story forward; and not making the characters compelling enough to care about them.

While this book has been published by a Christian publisher there wasn’t much concerning the Christian faith in the book.

I would like to thank Revell Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

This book takes you for a wild ride. Plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages, even if it is a slow paced book.

I found this plot to be a little bogged down by the sheer number of people involved. Normally I like complex - but I felt like this one could have been a little less complex and a little shorter and I would have liked it more.

I did love Jack and Terra. They make a great couple. They work well together.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This new series by Elizabeth Goddard starts out with a series of events that will keep you glued to the book. Throw in some unresolved relationship issues, mystery and detective work. You will be caught up in this story. Lots of twists and turns!

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard opens with a plane crash and keeps the action up throughout the book. The main theme is stolen archaeological artifacts and it was nice to read a bit of a different background.
Jack is FBI and is out looking for missing twins when he finds a dead body. Terra works for the Park Service and they end up working together. Jack had left her years ago to prove to himself and the town that he was not like his father. They both have issues from their past that they had to overcome.

The story has twists and turns and plenty to keep your attention.

My first book by this author and I am a new fan! The cover and description drew me in but the writing kept me hooked until the last page. It is a fast paced, multi-layered suspense thriller.

Jack and Terra, formerly in a relationship, find themselves thrown together back in their hometown trying to solve a murder before anyone else dies. Each with their own special areas, Jack former FBI and Terra with the national forest service, must pool their expertise together to solve the murder mystery while trying to leave their personal relationship in the past.

As they dig deeper trying to find out who killed a beloved townsman, they must face their own pasts and insecurities. This takes them on an adventure and discoveries they did not expect keeping the reader engaged and guessing at the twists and turns.

I loved the suspense of this book! Well written in that it took me places that I did not expect and never guessed who was behind things. I can’t wait for book 2 in the series!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

"The direction your life takes can often come down to one decision, one moment in time." This seems to be a current theme throughout the book. All of the characters seem to have made a decision in the past that impacts them in to the present.

Jack Tanner had been conducting a search and rescue operation for twin girls when he spotted what appeared to be a body at the bottom of a ravine. He comes face to face with Terra Connors an agent for the US Forest Service and also the woman he loved but left behind while trying to prove he was not a failure like his father. The body is not one of the twins that he is searching for, but Jim, an insurance man with secrets of his own.

As Terra and Jack work the case together, the story gets confusing, many other people are introduced and are involved in the mystery of a missing artifact.

This story had me guessing from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down and spent many late nights gripping my pillow and turning the pages until the early hours of the morning. A wonderful group of characters, great suspense and a really good storyline. I am sad it's over.

Nothing gets my attention more than an explosive start to a book. A plane crash in the mountains opens up this fast paced story and gains momentum as each chapter unravels. I love how the author has characters that are determined, fierce and a little history between them. The action is chaotic at times and keeps me bolted to my chair. I couldn’t wait to see what mystery I would try to solve.

It is easy to like Jack because he is the type that takes charge and never gives up. There is something in his past that distracts him at times but that just makes him a little mysterious at times. Maybe it’s the job he does that causes him to be so intense at times.

Coming onto the scene is Terra. Now she is a little complicated as she has this thing about proving herself. Oh and did I mention that her and Jack have a past together. I really liked learning about artifacts and National Parks. It intrigued me to find out that there are people willing to go to great links to take valuable and historical items from their natural in-habitat.

With a possible smuggling ring going on, bodies piling up and danger everywhere this is one of my favorite books from the author. I don’t want to give much detail because then you will know the whole story. I do know that the author throws in twists that had me shaking my head. I just knew I had figured out everything and bam she kicks it up a notch. Be ready for a few hours of intense drama that will leave you looking for more books from this very talented author.

I received a copy of this book from The Librarything Early Reader Program and the author. The review is my own opinion,

This book starts out with a bang... literally!
This journey begins with a plane crash into the vast mountain scenery, and it is just stays continually intense and intriguing from there! Old flames, mysterious murders, smuggled artifacts, and suspicious characters will have you wondering how it could all possibly tie together. While the characters in this book are perfectly likable, I couldn't get over how impeccably paced this book was. It had the perfect amount of action, romance, and time to breath spread throughout. In the past, I've felt Goddard's books have lacked the right pace for me, though I still enjoyed them, but this book hit it out of the park.

Goddard's writing elevates with each new book, and I can't wait to read the next installment of the Rocky Mountain Courage series.

I received a copy of this book digitally via NetGalley. I also pre-ordered a copy from Baker Book House. I read and reviewed this book voluntarily, and all opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
