Action packed story from the get-go! It begins when a small airplane crashes in the forest in Montana.
And, if that wasn't enough to get your blood going, Jack Tanner is working as a detective when he finds a dead body in the national forest while on a search and rescue mission. He finds himself working the case with someone from his romantic past, US Forest Special Agent Terra Conners. Terra wonders many things about Jack. Why did he disappear from her life and why is he no longer a special agent with the FBI?
Terra, obviously, has trust issues, especially with Jack. Can she, and should she trust him again? She can be a professional and work with him on the case, can't she?
I love what her mother once told her, "The direction your life takes can often come down to one decision, one moment in time." Oh, how true this is.
This fast paced story involves the trafficking of archaeological artifacts which was very interesting to me.
I was so surprised at the outcome of this story, and I'm pretty sure you will be as well.
I was given an advanced copy by the publisher, Revell and Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
Following a plane crash, Former FBI Agent Jack Tanner, now working as a Detective in Montana is charged with leading a search and rescue mission. He stumbles across a dead man.
Determined to find the killer gets much more complicated when he discovers he will be working alongside his old flame, US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors. They have a history, but there are still some unresolved issues.
More bodies are found and Terra makes a discovery that puts a target on her back.
This one seems to have it all .... family secrets. lies, threats, mystery, crime, a little romance. The plot is cleverly written with very likeable characters in Jack and Terra. Suspense starts at the very first and maintains a high level throughout. There are some twists and turns and plenty of suspects to watch .... some who are not exactly who they say they are. The ending is satisfactory .. a bit of a cliffhanger which will be the beginning of Book 2 in this series.
Many thanks to the author / Revell / Baker Publishing Group / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Interesting and intriguing:
This was a fabulous romantic suspense novel in what I am sure is going to be another winning series. I thought the pacing was excellent with a great balance between the action and down times. Secrets were revealed gradually and the intrigue surrounding the investigation kept me guessing.
All of the characters were multifaceted and relatable. I really liked Jack and Terra together as a couple and was rooting for them to find a way to a forever type of love.
It was interesting learning about US Forest Service Special Agents as well as ancient artifacts. I respect all of the research that the author no doubt put into all of this.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Excellent Book! Ms Goddard has created some well-rounded characters that live and breathe her script. I give it 5 stars!!!
This book has many twists and turns and keeps you guessing. I liked the way the author dropped hints along the way without giving too much away. The story is multifaceted, but not confusing. It really keeps your interest. The ending was well thought out. It wasn't tied up in a two-page neat bow. Everything is explained and resolved., even down to the dog. The language is clean and the romance is subtle. The author proves that a good book can be written without vulgar language and lude love scenes.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review.
A suspenseful read. Jack and Terra must work together when a body is found in Montana. This book will keep you guessing as you try to figure out what all of the ties are and why the victim was killed. Jack and Terra find themselves in danger many times as they try to figure out what the victim was doing and if it is tied to trafficking. A great read and I look forward to the next one.
I received a copy to read, the review is mine .
Begins with a helicopter crash and a mysterious package and ends in a shocking twist. Elizabeth Goddard's Present Danger is the first book of her new series Rocky Mountain Courage. She has filled it with archaeological artifacts, dead bodies and secrets - nothing is as expected. The Montana forest setting adds to the mystery of the storyline. The ancient artifacts which play a major role are intriguing and make you want to learn more. The characters are easy to like and develop well throughout the pages. If you have read any of her previous series, you will recognize some secondary characters that are brought into the scenes. If you are looking for a true who-dun-it mystery, then add this to your tbr list. It is a fast read that will keep you guessing until the very end.
This was a well done suspenseful story. The characters had depth and I enjoyed their journey. What a surprise ending!
I only read romantic suspense every once in a while, but anytime I read a book by Elizabeth Goddard, I’m reminded of how exciting this genre is. The story swiftly pulled me in and introduced me to diverse and fascinating characters. I was especially drawn to Terra.
The story started strong, with plenty of action and intensity, immersing me in the diverse storylines and curious about who-dun-it. I was captured by the first page and never lost interest.
The relationship between Terra (love the name, by the way) and Jack is complex but believable. Their story was delivered with perfect timing. Initially, the author didn’t reveal too much or too little about their pasts, which I was happy with, because a backstory dump instantly removes me from a story. Their history trickles out at a good stride, keeping me curious and fully invested.
Jack is also a multifaceted character. I loved his dedication to his aunt with dementia, especially with everything else he had going on in his life, heart, and mind.
And I haven’t even touched on the murder mystery aspect. Whew! I won’t say too much about that, only that it is far from predictable or ordinary. I was intrigued by the history and laws surrounding the Native American culture and artifacts. I can only imagine the time and research that went into creating this full-bodied story. Kudos to the author.
Present Danger is packed with suspense and had me fully captured and absorbed from the beginning. Although romantic suspense isn’t one of the main genres I read, I love Ms. Goddard’s gift of storytelling and can’t wait for book 2 in this heart-pounding series.
Dɪsᴄʟᴏsᴜʀᴇ: I ʀᴇᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ ᴀ ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʀʏ ᴄᴏᴘʏ ᴏғ ᴛʜɪs ʙᴏᴏᴋ. Mʏ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ ᴡᴀs ɴᴏᴛ ɪɴғʟᴜᴇɴᴄᴇᴅ.
The book starts with a plane crash, the pilot escapes but is missing a package. The package is the key to the whole story. Meanwhile Special Agent Jack Tanner happens upon a body while doing a search and rescue mission. Since the body is found on federal ground US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors is called into help. The reader soon discovers these two had a past relationship that didn't end well. In the course of the investigation Jack and Terra work on their relationship while also discovering stolen artifacts, more dead bodies, missing people, and surprising revelations. This story is full of twists and turns and shocking surprises.
Another page-turner from author Elizabeth Goddard, Present Danger takes the reader from one suspense filled moment to the next with barely a chance to catch their breath. With a Montana national forest setting, much of the action takes place on rough, mountainous terrain that makes it difficult to discover the hidden secrets that pose a threat to anyone who gets too close.
Primary characters are Terra Conners, a U.S. Forest Special Agent and Jack Tanner, former FBI special agent who is now a detective in Montana. When on a routine search for missing children in the wilderness, Jack discovers a body that leads to a dangerous investigation into murder and illegal artifact trafficking. Terra and Jack have a history with each other and did not part on the best of terms so working together on the case is not exactly comfortable for them. As the danger escalates neither of them has time to dwell on their past and find old feelings beginning to surface again.
As I stated earlier, Present Danger had me turning the pages well into the night. Its plot moved along at a swift pace filled with action, danger, and volatile secrets. I had more than one suspect in mind as the story progressed but nothing turned out as I expected. I would love to get to know Jack and Terra better and hope they will at least have a role in the next installment of this exciting series.
Right from the beginning, I kept questioning the fact that this is the first book in a new series. It felt too familiar, like I already knew some of the characters.
I finally realized...it's because this series connects with the previous series (Uncommon Justice) Elizabeth Goddard wrote! I love that by the way, when old friends show up again...and although they did have only minor roles in this story, it was fun to see them pop in on occasion! :)
This book is action packed and full of twists and turns, just like a great mystery novel needs to be!
Jack and Terra have a history, and now they're thrown back together, working in different law enforcement agencies, working to solve the same crimes. It all started out as a Search and Rescue operation, when they're looking for some missing people, and end up finding a dead body they weren't expecting to find.
Ancient artifacts play into the whole scheme of things, somehow. Terra is trying to figure out why they are showing up, in Montana of all things. And then, it seems like she is being targeted herself, and she has no idea why.
I enjoyed watching this play out, and I had some ideas as to who or what might be behind all the killings...but I was kept guessing until the end!

Artifacts and archeology always add interest in a suspense novel for me. This book has several threads that somehow connect in Montana as Jack Tanner, former FBI agent turned detective, and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors try to unravel the widening tangled mess. Add to the escalating tension the fact that the two once shared a love that ended poorly, and being thrown together to solve this case could be dicey. The rising death toll must mean the crimes involved are much more than they first considered. Hopefully, her injured veteran brother isn’t involved. The author throws so much at you so quickly it’s hard to keep up with all that’s going on, but you don’t want to stop reading because the intrigue demands you find out who’s responsible and how it will all turn out. I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This is a quality romantic suspense story with lots of moving parts that at times were a little hard to keep track of. With multiple investigative agencies involved, a fascinating story involving trafficked historical artifacts plus involved character backstories, there is a lot for the reader to juggle. Oh, and then there's some romance.
I enjoy learning as I read and I appreciated the trafficked artifacts storyline as it was one I didn't realise was still hot property (excuse the pun) in FBI circles.
The pace is good from page one and doesn't really let up. There were a lot of 'near misses' that can become a little repetitive and loosen the suspense a little but it was a fun story that kept me guessing. I had no idea how it all connected and was pleasantly surprised when all was revealed.
I really enjoyed Terra and Jack's characters. I liked their personal struggles and how they'd dealt with them in the years they were apart. I wasn't convinced of their romance though but I'll allow the fact they had previously been romantically involved to be the reason for that. Terra's initial lack of trust was very understandable and Jack had to earn that back.
The story wrapped up a little too quickly but overall it was very easy to turn the pages as new information kept being revealed.
I'll certainly keep reading Goddard's stories.
I received a complimentary early ebook version from Revell via NetGalley with no expectation of a favourable review.
I just finished reading this book and I really enjoyed it. I have read previous books by Ms. Goddard and this one totally met my expectations! Jack has moved home to be with his aunt when she is diagnosed with a progressive health problem. Terra has lived in her hometown all her life and is very happy with her job. These two become the main characters in this book and we get to know them both very well, professionally and personally. The supporting cast is great but they don't overload the story. Through circumstances Jack and Terra are pulled together as they work a case . I had never heard of archaeological trafficking and I found the case very interesting, especially what happened in 2003. You can tell that the author has done a lot of research into this subject as well as the career that Terra has. This story has a great mystery for us to try and figure out, the action and suspense kept me reading until I just dropped off to sleep. The romance of this book is realistic, a couple that was torn apart and what happens 15 years later when they meet each other again. I look forward to reading more of this series or any other romantic suspense by this author.
I received a free download of this book from Netgalley and the publisher, Revell
Elizabeth Goddard never disappoints! If you like suspense involving law enforcement, you will love this book! I liked that characters from previous series made appearances! US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors was a brave female protagonist who was thrown into working with her former love, Detective Jack Tanner, in solving a murder. Present Danger is complicated, fast moving and has surprising twists. I recommend Present Danger to anyone who enjoys suspense. I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
There is an ominous presence of danger in this story that introduces us to Agent Terra Connors and Agent Jack Tanner. Starting with a plane crash that pretty much picks up the pace for this entire book and it could be relentless and hard to put down at times.
So there is a murderer on the loose and the mystery as to who and why and what is not easily answered. I certainly could not guess, correctly anyway. Not only is the danger very real, but Jack and Terra have a romantic past that did not work out and their lives after took some very different turns. Now they are both working on this case and it can be difficult to hide your feelings and hurt.
The secondary characters were very interesting as well, and I know that some of them will be the main characters in the continuation of the series. I like getting to know them a little bit and the history they have.
I found the mountain setting and the way the different authorities worked together and depended on one another fascinating. I liked seeing the teamwork that can help save so many lives.
This was a good action packed beginning to a new series that I look forward to continuing.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
I have been a fan of Elizabeth Goddard's since I read her Uncommon Justice trilogy in July of last year, after which I vowed to read all of this author's books.
Present Danger is a great start to the new Rocky Mountain Courage series. Just as I expected it would, this book pulled me in and held my attention from the very first chapter, with exciting action, mysteries that kept me guessing, and wonderful character development with characters I loved reading about. I now can't wait to read this book's sequel coming out later this year!
Note: I received a free copy of this book from Revell, for which I am extremely grateful, and these are my honest thoughts.
Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard is book 1 in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. This book starts off with a bang with a crazy plane crash. But it is quickly evident that nothing is what it seems. The characters have complicated pasts and this only adds to the tension in the book. Full of mystery and danger, readers of romantic suspense will be pleased with this book. It is a great read and a wonderful start to a new series. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a well written book that definitely kept me interested throughout. It was actually hard to put down. It had mystery, suspense and romance.....which I love. There were surprises and twists that I didn't see coming, and I always like that in a book. 🙂 There was no inappropriate language or scenes, either. I am definitely a new fan of this author, and look forward to more of her books. I like her writing style a lot. 🙂
