Goddard never fails to give us mystery, suspense and all out dangerous escapades and this book #1 in Rocky Mountain Courage did not fail to deliver all of these. Former FBI Special Agent Jack Tanner is now working as a Detective in Montana and stumbles across a dead man. There had been a plane crash but the pilot had survived, so who is this man? He appeared to have fallen from the mountain top, but then it was discovered he had been stabbed. US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors who happens to be an old flame of Jack's and is now joined up with him to try to find out answers. They find out that the flame was never truly extinguished. Terra discovers some very disconcerting news about her family and her mother's death and also about her father's disappearance. It is a wild ride of an adventure that includes hidden crimes, open threats, and long-buried family secrets! There is also romance woven in facts about historical artifacts that will definitely keep your interest.....I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
This story is an action packed suspense that drew me in from the very first page. It had me anxious to see what would happen next. Twists and turns and surprises all kept me guessing what the outcome would be.
Descriptive writing, story line, location and character development was excellent.
Add a second chance romance to the mix and it made for a very good story.
This is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Goddard and now I'm anxious to read more.

Story Notes
Elizabeth Goddard offers readers an exciting mystery that features Native American antiquities, National parks and unnamed persons who seem to stay just out of reach.
I know this is a good book. Elizabeth Goddard clearly did her research and has included very good content and good characters in this story. I just didn't care for it. I couldn't muster up any feelings of like or dislike for the characters and what happened to them. It had a good deal of interesting background on the black market sales and thievery of antiquities so I enjoyed that part of the book, but it just didn't hold my interest otherwise. I left off reading it twice to read other books and tried to reconnect. No such luck. So, I hope others find it better and will enjoy the continuing story of the Rocky Mountain courage series. Maybe I can engage better with the next story when it comes out. I hope so as I usually really enjoy Ms. Goddard's stories.
I received this temporary complimentary E-book from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in order to provide a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Besides being a great love story, this book had me gripped from the beginning. So many dangerous situations on the journey to solve so many mysteries while trying to stay alive. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!!
“The direction your life takes
can often come down to
one decision,
one moment in time.”
Elizabeth Goddard has created another great faith-based thriller set on the Eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Beginning with a plane crash in chapter one and ending with the cliff rescue in the book’s final moments, the author managed to hold this readers attention
With the focus of antiquities dating from the American west to the Middle East, we get glimpses of how lives are made through the decisions we make - whether they are made by people with hearts of gold or full of evil. Grayback County Sheriff Detective Jack Tanner and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors both have made decisions that effect their lives even today, yet they will need to work together to find those responsible for the three deaths and the associated theft of ancient artifacts. In doing so they will need to face the decisions that they and their families have made in the past.
This “can’t put it down” book has a place in the church library, in the public library, and in the home of any reader looking for a colorful adventure. I give the book 5-stars.

This romantic suspense book is a great start for this series! Be prepared to read this one all the way through to the end to see what happens. This book was very entertaining and I enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind everything that was occurring. There were twists and turns throughout this book that kept me guessing where the story was going. The main characters were Jack and Terra. Years prior to the setting in this book, they were in a relationship together. Now, there have been many years that have passed and they are brought together due to a crime. After someone is murdered, there is a belief that artifacts are being trafficked due to the evidence found. Their investigation takes them down several avenues and the stakes seem to be raised higher to solve the crime due to attacks on them. As they work together, the past comes into play and they will have to decide if they should be in a relationship again. I highly recommend this engaging, eventful book. I know you will not be disappointed!!! I can not wait to see what occurs in the next book in this series!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
In her opening novel for her new Rocky Mountain Courage series, Elizabeth Goddard opens with non-stop action.
Beginning with a plane crash, followed by the discovery of a dead body, the action draws Sheriff Department detective Jack Tanner and National Forestry agent Terra Connors into a spiral of danger, secrets and deadly artifact trafficking that can have unforeseen consequences.
Jack and Terra have history, and it's not the kind that makes forgiveness easy nor trust comfortable. Now, they must put aside that past and work to unravel the mystery, to bring justice. Terra has to learn to trust Jack- but does she have the courage? Jack must not fail this time, because there may not be a next time.
Mom's words to her, mere hours before she was killed, came back to her.
"The direction your life takes, can often come down to one decision, one moment in time."
Is this that decision, that moment?
The direction your life takes can often come down to one decision, one moment in time.
This was my first book by Elizabeth Goddard, though I do still have a previous series to read as well, which I sort of wish I have read before this book. This book stands alone, but we met the McKade's briefly and I think one main plot in the previous serious was mentioned in this book.
Okay, back to Present Danger. This story started out fast and interesting, and there was a brief slowdown of pace for me when they discussed all the Archaeological laws and regulations. However, it quickly picked up on the action, danger and twists and turns. There was one main twist which was revealed at the end which I guessed, but the author did a great job with all the other twists and turns so that I was totally invested to see who was behind everything. And the author had me guessing a few suspects wrong.
I enjoyed Jack and Terra's back story and interaction. I would have liked to see a bit more about a romantic relationship re-ignited in the present versus only being referenced to the past one to support the ending, but I enjoyed that the focus was mainly on the suspense plot with a romance as a sub-plot.
There was one mystery not yet resolved which I'm guessing will continue during this series, since all the characters in the books are connected to one main event.
Recommended to fans of romantic suspense.
A twisting fast paced suspense, with personal implications and revelations for both Terra and Jack as they work to get to the bottom of things.
Terra is a Forest Service Special Agent, dealing with the protection of artifacts and protected property, which is a specialization that I'd never heard of before and thought was really fascinating. Jack is a former FBI agent working with the sheriff's department, since coming home to be with his ailing aunt. He is struggling to get back on track after failing to save his cousin, but he wants to help Terra get to the bottom of the murder. And I liked how he was there for her throughout the story, supportively helping her navigate the dangers of dealing with traffickers.
Terra is a strong woman, passionate about following in the footsteps of her mother. I liked that she is close to her brother, Owen, and is strong in her faith.
The story is fast paced with plenty of twists, as well as relationship building along the way. I liked how the plot has ties to the past, and the personal, with high stakes and a wonderful cast of characters. A fantastic suspenseful read with great character development, and plot that made it hard to put down as there was so much going on! Excellently balanced read, definitely recommend to suspense fans!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
“God, please . . . The air was hazy with smoke, and she struggled to breathe. If the flames didn’t get to her, the smoke would take her out.”
This nonstop thrilling, romantic suspense kept up the pace until the very last page. There were so many layers to the mystery that it kept my mind racing with possible answers. Another thing I loved about Goddard‘s writing was how well she ramped up the danger, while still developing the characters in her story. The good guys and bad guys were intriguing. It was fun seeing characters from her prior series as well as the developing characters coming up in the series.
“Tenderness surged between them while a whirlwind of past and present emotions swirled in her mind. Their hearts connected, touched, entwined.”
Oh, how I especially loved the chemistry between the two leading characters, Detective Jack Tanner and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors. As they worked through a mystery wrapped around a dead body, airplane crash, and missing archaeological artifacts , their old romance is rekindled. Both are good at their jobs and paired together made for a riveting storyline. Filled with adventure and intrigue, with a dash of romance and forgiveness, I was hooked.
“I’d like you to accompany me up that trail and search for . . . anomalies.”
One of the things that drew me to this story was learning more about archaeological artifacts. Goddard made learning fun in this fictional portrayal of what can happen when one bad decision is layered upon another. The spiritual aspect is very light, but also deep in how important forgiveness is, as well as not jumping to conclusions without all the facts. If you enjoy books by Irene Hannon and Lynette Eason I think you will love “Present Danger.”
I was given an advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley by the publisher. All opinions are my own and are given honestly.
Present Danger transports readers to the remote Montana mountains. Terra Connors is a US Forest Service Special Agent, and she’s called to help investigate a murder. The problem (besides the murder, of course) is that the detective assigned to handle the investigation is Jack Tanner, her ex-fiancé. The two put try to put their personal lives aside as they try to figure out the killer’s motives.
Present Danger is a complex mystery. There are a lot of characters and plot threads to follow. I did find it hard to get into the story at first, but once I did, the novel took me on a wild adventure ride. There’s lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end.
Overall Rating:
4 stars (I liked it a lot and would definitely recommend)
Suspense Rating:
4 stars (lots of action and suspense to keep me intrigued)

When I pick up a book by Elizabeth Goddard, I know I am in for quite the adventure. Her newest novel Present Danger did not disappoint!
The story starts off with a bang right from the beginning as we're brought into a plane going down. The excitement only continues from there with twists and turns with every turn of the page. Murder plus trafficking of archaeological artifacts combined for a fantastic suspense read that kept me at the edge of my seat. I'm typically pretty good at figuring out some of the unexpected twists in suspense novels, but this one completely shocked me more than once... and I absolutely loved every minute of it!
A great as the suspense was, I always enjoy the romance just as much. The chemistry between Terra and Jack was fantastic. Second chance romances are always some of my favorites, so naturally I enjoyed that aspect too.
While this is the first book in the new Rocky Mountain Courage, those of us who have read Elizabeth Goddard's previous books will appreciate seeing a few familiar characters pop up as well. This was a great way to start this series and I cannot wait to see what comes next. If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is certainly one to add to your TBR.
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
This is book one in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, what a great place to start. This book is full of suspense, mystery, romance and more.
This book goes back and forth between characters,, however you are never lost or confused with whom is speaking. Jack Tanner and Terra Connors share a past and find themselves thrown together in a unique investigation. Both have things they must overcome and figure out before one of them is killed. This book has many twist and turns, just when you think you may have it figured out, something new happens. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
This is the first book in a new romantic suspense series by Elizabeth Goddard. If you have read her other books, one chapter features several characters from a previous story. But you can definitely read this book as your first ever Goddard book.
Terra is the main female heroine. Her job is to protect the Gallatin Forest area in Montana. This definitely seemed like a beautiful setting for the book. Her family relationships definitely add complications and interest to the story.
The two main characters were involved together in the past. There is definitely some tension between them at first. Trust took time to build back up again. I did feel like there was a real connection between the two of them that made the love interest seem realistic. I did appreciate their individual "full circle" moments where they both realized why it was that they struggled to commit to a relationship.
While I did figure out some of the suspense elements in this book, there were definitely some surprises as well. The plot revolves around an interesting discovery. I could tell that the author really researched the subject because the mystery felt both important and intense. By necessity I am trying to be vague in this review because there are so many parts that I could spoil.
My guess is this going to be a trilogy. (Book 2 is already showing on Goodreads. I am guessing I know who the main character will be in Book 3). The three featured characters are not siblings or even family. Instead they are drawn together because they faced a tragic situation together. Because of trying to get over this hard circumstance, each of the three are reacting differently to current tragedies. The backstory was strong as well.
There was one part that I definitely had a struggle with. Several characters had very similar names. Chance and Case. Bellinger and Blevins. Although there were distinctions in the people, the names were too close for me. It made it difficult to follow at times.
So much of the story was good, but for whatever reason how the details connected together occasionally fell flat. Parts of the story did not quite resonate with me. My final rating for this one is 4.2.
Present Danger begins the Rocky Mountain Courage series by Elizabeth Goddard. Oh my goodness, what a fabulous start to this series it is. I thoroughly enjoyed Terra and Jack’s story. It was full of what I love in a book. There was adventure, action, danger, mystery, suspense and, of course, romance. I loved every single page. Since I was not easily able to predictable, it was not difficult to keep turning those pages until I read to the finish page. It was so very good.
Present Danger will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. It may be my favorite book I have read by Elizabeth Goddard to date. I can not wait to read the next book from the Rocky Mountain Courage series, Deadly Target.
I received a paperback copy of Present Danger from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
“How had he ever walked away from this woman? How many times would he think about what a fool he had been?”
Bestselling and award-winning author Elizabeth Goddard has penned another dynamic, romantic suspense novel with the release of PRESENT DANGER (Rocky Mountain Courage Book #1). When you start to read this novel, mark off some time as you are going to quickly get swallowed up in this plot! Goddard starts with an action packed scenario involving a small plane crash in the mountains. Just when you think the sabotaged plane is going to be the main mystery, Goddard drops in another piece of the puzzle. Former FBI Special Agent Jack Tanner is now working as a Detective in Montana. While on a search and rescue mission, he stumbles across a dead body. Determined to find the killer gets much more complicated when he discovers he will be working alongside his old flame, US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors. Terra discovers some very disconcerting news about the victim which puts a target on her back. As the threats escalate, Jack realizes that perhaps the responsibility he feels for Terra stems from far more than a professional capacity. However, crossing that line could put both of their lives in danger! Goddard packs this story with plenty of twists and turns that will keep even the keenest of readers guessing who the real culprit/culprits is/are until the very end! It is a wild ride of an adventure that includes hidden crimes, open threats, and long-buried family secrets! She weaves the romance in slowly and has you wondering if the couple will ever get together as they have many factors to overcome from their past relationship. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this story!

Goddard is a great suspense writer! I appreciated that the center of the mystery was something I haven't read much about before...artifact trafficking. There were layers to the mystery as well as a ton of danger and urgency. Some of the twists surprised me and caught me completely off guard. I like that. I liked the main characters and hope they have roles in the future books in the series.
This is also a book about second chances and trying to live up to or exceed another's expectations whether they were right or wrong.
It's a story of forgiveness and acceptance, of releasing burdens and grudges.
I would highly recommend this book to all lovers of mystery and suspense. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This is an inspirational romantic suspense story and is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. This book followed a convoluted path with a surprising ending
This was a wonderfully written story with a great investigation and suspense. Terra and Jack though apart for several years get brought back together with this investigation. They would never imagine the secrets that come to fruition that made them who they are today. Great plot twists and romance. I received a copy from Netgalley and this review is voluntary.
Present Danger is a great start to the new Rocky Mountain Courage series set in Montana. It has all that I like in a book of this genre with suspense, action, some mystery to solve, and a second chance at romance. The scenic setting is easy to picture and the characters are realistic and well developed with some not who they seem, but with a mysterious background. The story kicks off with a search for twin children that turns into the discovery of a body of a local man. It brings together a couple who loved each other at one time but have been apart for several years. Jack Tanner, former FBI agent, is a County Detective with the local sheriff's office investigating the murder of the man. US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors, formerly of the National Park Service, is also investigating because the body is found on US Forest land. They used to be a couple so at first it is a little awkward but they work together as professionals to solve the case that soon expands to include another body and a few break-ins. There seems to be something going on that involves illegal movement of archaeological artifacts including Native Americans. With danger, action, and mystery of who is involves in the small town, this is a multilayered and complex situation to unravel and surprise answers from the past. Romance and faith top off this winner.
