I will always stop what I am doing and read a Tessa Bailey novel. Her Fix Her Up series had so many great characters. It Happened One Summer is the first book in a sexy new series of interconnected romances. This one is about 28 year old Piper Bellinger, a rich, spoiled social influencer who lives in Los Angeles. After her latest escapade goes badly, she is shipped off the small fishing town in the pacific northwest where she was born. (The same place her biological father was killed.) She finds herself cut off financially until she can learn some responsibility. There she meets bearded fisherman Brendan, a boyfriend trope I did not know I needed. Marketed as Schitt's Creek -inspired romcom, this book totally hit the spot for me. Can't wait to see what Tessa Bailey does for Piper's sister Hannah in book 2.

This is the first book that I read by this author and I really enjoyed it more than I expected to. The main female character is inspired by Alexis from the TV show Schitt's Creek. There was great character development and growth and story was paced nicely. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

This was adorable. I really enjoyed the relationship between Piper and her sister. I think that it's always good to show strong sibling relationships and it was fun to see how different they are. I think they balanced each other out well.

I liked the small seaside town this book was set it and enjoyed getting to know about the community as Piper learns to navigate life outside of the limelight.

The romance was steamy steamy! It was what I expected and I felt like the romance didn't overwhelm the story. The important part of this story has more to do with Piper finding herself than the romance and I liked that the best about it. Romance is good don't get me wrong but I'm also a sucker for a good finding yourself story;

Overall I recommend this romance.

This is the grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers book we didn’t know we needed!
If you’re a fan of Schitt’s Creek, you will love this as the MC is based off of Alexis. Brendan bears a striking resemblance to Mutt, so if you shipped those two, here’s your HEA.
After Piper is dumped by her boyfriend she decides to give her millions of followers something else to talk about…by breaking into a hotel pool and throwing a party. After getting arrested her stepfather decides to teach her a lesson, by sending her to live in the small fishing town her real dad called home. Piper doesn’t have many memories of him before he died, but she’s hoping this experience can bring her closer to her roots and prove her stepfather wrong. From the moment she enters her fathers run down bar, her and Brendan, captain of her fathers former ship and widower, get off on the wrong foot. Before long Brendan finds himself very attracted to Piper not just for her body, but because of her selflessness and kindness.
I did not want to put this down. Much like Alexis, Piper can be shallow, but lovingly so, and I loved watching her grow. Brendan is your typical small town alpha-male and to be honest if I met him In real life I’d probably hate him. But this is fiction, and him and Piper compliment each their and definitely bring the heat.
ALSO the spicy scenes are SPICY and I was 100% here for it.
Can’t wait to read about Hannah and Fox next!

Tessa Bailey is a kinda-new author to me. The first book of hers I read was a sorta-miss, the next was a definite hit, and this one? Well, it was solidly in the middle.

To be fair, enemies-to-lovers isn’t really a trope I enjoy. But It Happened One Summer started out really funny, with me audibly laughing on a plane ride. Even though the heroine came across as shallow, fake, and flaky, we learn her waters run very deep. When she gets banished from LA to a small, nowhere-town in Washington, the fish-out-of-water stories were humorous and heartwarming.

The hero was the perfect amount of grumpy and protective...once his eyes were opened to who the heroine truly was. I love a hero who does things quietly and behind the scenes to show the heroine how he feels.

The story was moving along nicely, all cute and rom-comish swoony. Piper and Brendan get to know each other, they spend some quality time together. I loved how they each had growth as characters, but still remained who they were: Piper a little flighty and life of the party, Brendan grumpy and controlled.

But then the author had to go the cliched route and make things all predicatably angsty and dramatic, finally sinking the boat with a total cheese-ball, Hallmark-style grand gesture. I do love a grand gesture, but this one didn’t work for me.

Still, I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. I’m hoping we get more of what the first half of It Happened One Summer was like, and less of the second half…

Tessa Bailey has done it again. I have never come across an author who manages to blend humor and smut so well. I was so emotionally attached to these characters and the heat level was so high.
Piper has finally gone to far. After throwing an impromptu pool party with a side of breaking and entering to show her ex just how much she doesn't care, Piper is banished to Westport. Her sister comes along for the ride and they're determined to win their freedom and return to California. Except she keeps bumping into the grumpy fishing captain who wants nothing to do with her.

Tessa Bailey is a genius. I have loved every single book that I've read by her and she draws me in every single time.

I personally had to make myself finish this book. I'm not sure if it was me or the book, but I felt like the pacing dragged. It's not a quick and dirty Tessa Bailey like I'm used to, I wasn't entirely invested in the couple and their HEA.

I loved this book and will eagerly be awaiting the next in the series. Tessa Bailey drew readers right in with these characters - who doesn't love the grumpy man/sunny beautiful girl trope?!

Loved the Westport residents and the book’s setting but struggled to like Brendan as he was too much of an alpha male constantly calling Piper ‘baby’. I did find the similarities to Alexis and Piper quite humorous and liked how she adapted to her new surroundings. Looking forward to Hannah and Fox’s story next.

This is a super cute summer-ish romance. The town is a great setting and the people who live there are all unique characters. The actual romance was kind of disappointing. Brendan's attraction to Piper seemed pretty sudden/unrealistic. Seems a little ~fishy~ that he'd take off his wedding ring so quickly.

The best. I loved this book so much. It made me want to move to Westport and start a new life there.

Tessa Bailey always makes great stories weaved with the perfect amount of romance.

This story was soooo good and i can’t wait for the other books in this series. I absolutely adored this book and found Piper so cute. She gave me Schitts Creek, Alexis vibes. Just adored her. But also vibes of Simple Wild. Just all around adored this main character.

ok. Tessa Bailey. Take my monies and run with them. You can write a perfectly toe-curling steamy scene.

I am not going to lie that I did not care to much for Piper.. I know that's bad. But Brendan stole the entire show for me.

Give me a brooding big guy that wants to worship your body any day of the week.

4 stars only because there was one scene where Brendan was not how he was the entire rest of the book ( trying not to give away to much) so it was super confusing to why he acted that way.

It Happened One Summer is a story of romance that buds from a bad first impression. Much like Brendan's initial feelings toward Piper, I also had a hard time warming up to our protagonist. She was flighty, self-involved, and drawn to things that were so clearly wrong for her. Her selfish nature made it hard to really care for her success. Brendan on the other hand was grumpy on the outside, but broken, sensitive, and kind in ways that made him incredibly charming. It was easy to fall in love with Brendan. I loved getting to know his connection to his job, his relationship with his crew, or at least his friendship with Fox, and the struggle of his backstory and how it influenced his life going forward. Brendan had depth that made him the perfect love interest for our story. But did I want him to end up with Piper?
Brendan's previous relationship was more of a business transaction, and while there was a definite spark between him and Piper, I couldn't help but get the feeling that he was giving more than he was getting out of his relationship with Piper. Sure, she brought excitement into his life, brought him into the 20th century on technology, gave him something pretty to look at, but Piper was barely self-sustaining when she met Brendan and he gave her everything he had. Their relationship felt a little bit one-sided and I couldn't shake the feeling that there was someone out there better for him.
Overall, this was a fun read, glad I read it. Happy with the way things ended between Piper and Brendan for now, but hoping that some day Brendan wises up and finds someone better for him. Sorry Piper.

I loved this book so much!! It started as Schitt’s Creek fan fiction but it is so much more! Piper is an LA socialite who is sent to a small Washington fishing village after her latest exploits land her in jail. She and her sister Hannah wind up in a tiny apartment above a bar and the locals are a little suspicious. Eventually they start to fit in and Piper learns how to stand on her own while meeting her unlikely match. This book is funny, sweet, and spicy.

I loved this book! Fall is just stating here but the book drew me back to summer. I loved getting swept away in Piper and Brendan’s love story. I can just imagine being on Brendan’s boat, feeling the sway of the boat and the crashing of the ocean. It makes me want to visit Washington state so bad. I loved that it wasn’t an insta love story. There was a slight enemy to lovers feel to it.

This is such an amazing story about finding who you really are and accepting it, even if you are finding yourself in the most unusual place. The chemistry between these characters is electrifying. There is so much to love about this entire story.

I really love Tessa Bailey, but I have found that her male love interests are a little too possessive for me. I also don't think such a raunchy and steamy romance is for me anymore. Her writing is great and I might give this one another shot in the future.
