I’m encouraged when I see Christians writing about the importance of understanding core beliefs. Discipleship is ever important within the Body of Christ. This book seems to understand the need, though it could have been more exhaustive/nuanced. However, new Christians might be overwhelmed with a larger framework of systematic theology.
What we believe matters. It affects how we feel and how we behave. In his book Jesus Loves Me: Christian Essentials for the Head and the Heart, author John S. Dickerson helps readers grasp just how wide, deep, long and broad is God's love for us. He takes the simple chorus of the well-known and loved song, "Jesus Loves Me", and uses them as a memory device to help readers understand some key theological truths.
By remembering "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so," reminds readers of key beliefs:
about Jesus,
about God's love, proven on the cross,
about themselves,
about the surety of salvation, and
about the Bible, our standard for the living.
The premise of the book is simple, but it's chock full of theological truth. Dickerson provides an amazing primer or reminder of the most important and key concepts of the salvation story. Filled with biblical truth, personal stories, and practical applications, the Jesus Loves Me reminds readers just how much God loves them in the person of Jesus.
