An easy read with a few laughs along the way. Bobby snd Ross buy a lighthouse for £1 with the intention of turning it into a music venue.
When I started reading the book I realised I had read it before and it was a reprint.
Thank you NetGalley, Aria & Aries and Mary jayne Baker for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Ok first.... What is going on with this book? NetGalley says it will be published January 7, 2021 and Goodreads says it was published June 30th, 2017. Anyways, this has nothing to do with the book itself, just weird.
Have you ever made a HUGE life change on a whim, got well and truly drunk with your childhood sweetheart in celebration and then made a pact to go into business with said childhood sweetheart? No? Just Bobbie? When Bobbie crosses paths with her first flame, Ross, he’s hanging a For Sale sign on a run down lighthouse on the cliffside. The lighthouse is for sale for £1. That night she’s a few drinks in when Ross rescues her from lame. Their connection is still there after all those years and soon they’re making plans to restore the old lighthouse and turn it into a music venue. The morning after a shared kiss, it dawns on Bobbie that Ross is separated from his wife, but still technically married. She decides they can be business partners without their feelings getting in the way and soon they’re tackling the hurdles together.
Both Bobbie and Ross are likeable and fun characters that were easy to root for. The pace was nice and I finished this one in one sitting! There are a few moments that feel a little far fetched or corny, but who doesn’t like a little bit of that in their romances every once in a while?! This plot was so refreshing, being different from any other I’ve read recently and I’m kinda obsessed with that cover!!
I enjoyed this book. Bobbie impulsively buys a lighthouse off her childhood crush Ross. But after a drunk night together they begin a quest to update the lighthouse and turn it into Ross's life long dream of a music facility for kids. They both divulge that they had crushes on each other as kids and start to pursue it as an adult, that is until Ross drops a bomb on her that makes her rethink what she is doing. Crazy ex's make an appearance, and family drama ensues. Can their attraction live on, or will their friendship, and the lighthouse, fall apart.
Overall my only complaints were it was a bit too long, and a little repetitive of the jealous boyfriend/girlfriend trope. But with that, it was cute and a quick and pleasant read! 3.5 stars.
A fun light rom com read about a couple who grew up together, parted for a while, and now are business partners. Bobby has impulsively bought a lighthouse which she turns into a music venue; Ross is, among other things, a musician. Should they get together as adults? Will there be an HEA? No spoilers from me but it makes for a quick read with some good chucklers. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Meet Me at the Lighthouse is a sweet romance about fulfilling your dreams, falling in love, a offering unconditional support to your partner. I loved the beginning of the book; the flirtatious banter and chemistry between the characters is well written and I got a sense of what it was like to live seaside in their small town. That being said, the last third of the book dragged for me and I felt like the momentous occasion at the end of the book was bogged down through slow pacing and by a secondary character whose over-the-top, washed-up, alcoholic thesbian affect would have been better left out entirely. It made me skim the last couple chapters of the book, when I should have been celebrating with the characters. I understand that this is a rework of a previously published novel, but I think it could have done a bit more with editing down the unnecessary.

So fun and light! I’ve been reading romances all year and this one was worth the read! Also, definitely wish I could get lighthouse!
Sweet, wholesome and a good dose of seaside love.
This was such a great book, how cannot not be with that cover? So cute!
Bobbie and Ross are the couple that made a dream come true with hard work and support of each other and the people in their lives.
I mean, okay, there were times I thought Bobbie was going off the deep end, but Ross comes through ever so strong and just grounds her back into reality and at that point, you can just FEEL the love from him.
The plot was smooth, no dragging moments, no dull spots.
This book was very endearing. Pulls you in, and just fills you with love.
Go grab this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed Meet Me at the Lighthouse. I loved the plot and I especially loved the heavy English lingo throughout. There was great chemistry between the leads and entertaining supporting characters. This was a fun, easy read.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this title.
I very much enjoyed Meet Me at the Lighthouse. It starts off with an unusual idea - Bobbie purchasing a lighthouse - and continues on to follow Bobbie's dreams becoming a reality (both with the lighthouse and her love life). Very cute story, with great chemistry between the main couple and just enough conflict to make it interesting!
I wish I could’ve enjoyed this book more than I did. This was a good book, but not one of my favorites unfortunately!
Sweet and witty with an unusual premise (I mean, who buys a lighthouse?), this is a fun story and would be a great beach read. Along with the main romance, I did enjoy the sister's banter quite a bit.
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read the Never Have I Ever Club and loved it, so was excited to read this especially with quite a unique synopsis, it sounded really interesting. Sadly I didn't love it as much. There was nothing wrong with the writing but it just didn't grab me.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the advance reading opportunity! This novel includes just the right amount of fluff. The relationship between Ross and Bobbie is so perfectly paralleled by the transformation of the lighthouse they are renovating. Of course, there wouldn't be a HEA without conflict... enter a character readers will love to hate. I recommend this novel for readers who need a bit of DIY rolled in with their HEA.
After reading Baker’s previous side-splitting funny book ‘The Never Have I Ever Club’, I was super excited when I got a chance to read this. It lived up to my expectations.
Adorable and Charming. Eccentric and whimsy. Steamy and sizzling. Persistent and dogged. Witty and funny. Possessive and jealous.
Roberta (goes by Bobbie) lives in a cottage with her dog Monty and twin sister Jess in a seaside town in Yorkshire. One day, she buys the dilapidated lighthouse and ropes in an old flame to be a partner in her crazy scheme of renovating the lighthouse and making it a performing space for the kids in town.
At first, I thought Bobbie was wacky for impulsively buying this, prepared to pour her savings into this, and work hard to secure funds. Started cheering for them when underlying selfless reasons were revealed for undertaking this mammoth project.
Sparks fly between them while working together but she tries to keep to strictly business until Ross is clear from his baggage. There were many brilliant and quirky characters in this – Bobbie’s mom, who vets potential boyfriends of her daughters. Uncle Charlie – cantankerous old man. The scenes involving Jess were hilarious. The bond between these sisters is touching, and props up each other. The small-town people show the spirit by pitching in to help these get the lighthouse up from the ground.
Bobbie’s dog Monty is the character itself. His playful antics made me laugh whenever he appeared. I was giggling throughout the funeral event; I know this is the last place that warrants chuckling.
Appreciate Baker for creating realistic characters, who are far from perfect, riddled with insecurities and jealousies, struggles and dealing with trust issues, fighting their insecurities.
Loved the sizzling chemistry between Ross and Bobbie. They both are adorable and charming.
My quibbles are in one moment, I was appreciating Bobbie for sticking to her principles of not getting too involved with a man who hasn’t finished separating from his wife. The next minute, they were snogging their faces off. Calling grown up man a ‘Lamb’ and ‘Sweety’ are cringe worthy, probably these endearments are part of Yorkshire slang.
All in all, recommend this light hearted and funny read set in a beautiful location to rom-com lovers.

This book was so fun! It had everything I want in an adult book- fun, flirting, a little alcohol, some bad decisions, and an engaging story! I really enjoyed getting to know these characters, and I really identified with them. I like that none of the main characters are perfect; they’re flawed, messed up, and have problems just like an average person. That made them even more relatable! I felt like the book was paced well, and kept me coming back for more! This is a winner!
Meet Me at the Lighthouse by Mary Jayne Baker was really a very cute story. As soon as I saw the book and started reading it I kept singing the opening of The Secret Sun, which also kind of coincides with the hero of the book as well who is also a singer. Roberta, or Bobbie to her family and friends, happened to be walking by her town’s lighthouse where she runs into an old schoolmate, Ross. After a drunken night, they partner up to save the decaying lighthouse and what ensues is great witty banter along with a wonderful love story. They both have issues to overcome in their personal lives but together they overcome them and more. I loved that at the beginning of this book, the author tells you, “The day I turned twenty-eight, I bought a lighthouse and met the love of my life.” I love knowing there’s already a happy ending and I can just enjoy the story. Granted I was also assuming I wasn’t being setup for a tragedy at the end and luckily, I wasn’t. I was so happy to get this as an ARC from the publisher and am looking forward to reading Baker’s other books as well.
