This is a youthful, light read full of twists and turns that you may expect if you've read any amount of Science Fiction. It's not poorly written- the world is well built and the characters are independent if not stereotypical. Nonstop action takes you quickly through the book to a very action packed climax. It's an interesting premise that I found lacking because of disjointed and rushed narration by our main character, Syd.

This book actually started off pretty strong. In the beginning I was into it, and excited about the space aspect. I love space books! Sadly, while the concept was awesome, the delivery was pretty awful

For my first Pittacus Lore book, I was very impressed. I had not had a book that I could not put down in a while. This one broke that trend. It was a very enjoyable, adventurous Sci-Fi!

Being a huge fan of the Lorien Legacies, I was super excited to read this book; however, it isn’t what I expected at all. It isn’t an extension of that series; but rather, a whole new story. This is probably my fault for not quite understanding that when I requested the title.
For my personal experience, this was more of a 3-star read. It just didn’t live up to my love of his other world, but it’s still a decent plot. As for my students, I cannot wait to recommend this to them. I know some of them will be huge fans of this! I’m hoping the second book is better!

What’s in a name? Not much if it’s constantly changing. From name to name and safe house to safe house, Syd Chambers is forced to change his identity, never able to get close to people. Until the day when someone finds him, someone who has been looking for him for years. Someone who can tell him about his father’s legacy. Someone who knows not his alias, but his name. From this encounter, Syd is introduced to not only himself but also to a timeless destiny.
Syd is the quintessential teen and young adult readers will appreciate his sometimes awkward but completely accurate peer interactions. With a vividly imagined team of interstellar cohorts and a fascinating seer, Ashfall Legacy is an entertaining ride into yet another dimension of science fiction by the acclaimed Pittacus Lore.

I really enjoyed this novel! It explained things very well, and let me build a good picture in my head of the characters and the different settings around the universes. I'm looking forward to the others in the series when they come out!

Fans of Pittacus Lore will not be disappointed in the debut of this new series. Ashfall Legacy begin with us following Sydney Chambers in his life on the run - half human, half alien, his human mother and he have been running for years. Finding out his father - presumed dead - may actually be alive, Sydney sets out to discover his own legacy with the secret hopes of humanity on a double mission - to save his father and save the world.
In true Lore form, the humor in the book is witty and sometimes borderline ridiculous, making thus book truly enjoyable and a welcome break. Very difficult to put down - so make sure you have plenty of time to read on - you'll need it.
While this is a fun book, don't think for one minute that there is anything half-hearted about the creation. The world building is complex and thoughtful, as are the alien species Sydney comes into contact with. Youw ill definitely enjoy this and look forward to the next one.

I’ve really enjoyed this series. So much better than the movie. I like being able to catch up with the characters and always enjoy seeing a new book in the series.

This entire book was crackhead energy. Literally. Half human half alien boy finds out he has an alien and his long lost father is alive and that he could have actual superpowers if he goes to space. OFCOURSE HE GOES TO SPACE.
At first I thought this was going to be like I am Number Four (I remember loving that novel), but even though the opening scene was really similar, it was nothing like i am number four. This entire book was very tropey and well it wasnt anything new with the plot but honestly I didn’t care. My head was empty, only vibes from this book. The humor was so cringe i just wanted to keep reading how it could get more cringey. And I don’t mean to say this in a bad way because this was a really light hearted fun read and i needed this break after all the heavy stuff i was reading before and this book is a perfect escape for that. Yet the most distinctive feature of the book would be its worldbuilding. The history, religion, and the great range of aliens was just not only fun but also really intriguing and i adored that aspect of this book (especially the great shame being a religion, that was reallyy unique)
That said i probably wouldn’t have liked this book if it wasn’t for this particular time. But i think thats the beauty of it, with this book there is no stress, just vibes and i think everyone should give it a go if they need a break from high fantasy or intense books no matter your age!
Thank you to HarperCollins Children’s Books for granting me with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Syd has been on the run with his mom since he was a child. At one point, he questioned her paranoia, only ti find out that his missing dad is an alien. Although parts of the story are hard to swallow, exciting plot developments, intriguing conflicts, and superhero powers are undeniably addictive! Some interesting use of science.

When he was twelve years old, Syd learns that the father he barely remembers was actually an alien. He and his mother are on the run, keeping one step ahead of ‘them’. Now, as a teenager, Syd has the chance to go into space to find his father and potentially help save humankind from destroying the earth. But the answers may not be the answer he wants, and some secrets should remain buried.
I’ve only read a few of the I AM NUMBER 4 series, but I am always onboard for a fun sci-fi series. The description of this one had my attention from start to finish. I found it difficult to put down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
We follow Syd, a teenager who is eager to learn more about his father and his father’s people, the Denzan. The Denzan people are against violence and, despite their advanced technology, they are vulnerable to the Etherazi. The Denzans recruit humans to fight the war for them since, out in space, human DNA is altered and makes them supermen: invulnerable and strong.
There is a lot packed into this book. The aliens Syd encounters are imaginative and each one memorable in each way. He makes friends (and enemies) rather quickly as he tries to uncover the truth. The reaction of humans being superhuman in space was believable. The world of Denza was fascinating, and I would love to learn more in future books.
My only negative is the ‘f’ word used in the narrative. It was less than I’ve read in other YA books, but enough that it was noticeable.
For readers looking for an alien, sci-fi adventure, I would recommend this one.

Sydney just wants to be a normal teenager, but that's a bit difficult when your father is an alien from another planet (making you half alien) and you and your mother are constantly on the run because a different type of alien was sent to kidnap you when you were a child. A fluke leads to Syd's Denzan uncle finding them and convincing Syd to come with him to find Syd's long-lost father. But in order to go looking for his father, he must basically never see his mother again. When humans leave Earth, they gain incredible strength and invulnerability, but if they go back to Earth they are afflicted with a disease called The Wasting and die. Syd has to know what happened to his father, so he joins his uncle Ty and they fly off to join the crew of a spaceship. Different groups of aliens are after different things, including sending the humans back to Earth and abandoning them to their fate, finding an ancient race of people, and finding a cure for the wasting. Syd must undergo training on Denza before seeking his father. When he is ready, what he finds is not at all what he was expecting and may lead to an intergalactic war.

I enjoyed the I Am Number 4 series and all its variations. This story was in many ways very similar to that series as well as others written by other authors. I just couldn't get too excited about the storyline.

I love the I am Number Four series and have read almost all of Pittacus Lore’s books. I loved this new, exciting tale that brings into question humanity, our responsibility for our world, and the question of identity. I sped through it!

This book started out kind of slow for me. Once Stanley left earth it finally stated to pick up. I found it a bit unbelievable how easy it was for him to leave everything he knew behind. I enjoyed the twist at the end. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC. I know that Pitticus Lore is really a group of people, but this is the first time that the book actually feels like there are different people writing it even though all of the chapters are told in first person from one character. It was uneven and I had considered stopping a few times. It is an interesting new universe. I will be willing to try out the second book in the series, but it will have a short leash.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. This was a great book to read and I enjoyed reading it. I highly recommend reading this book.

Ashfall Legacy by Pittacus Lore. Different characters with fundamentally diverse characteristics were introduced including a mold and spore covered zombie who enjoys Earth science fiction stories/movies and Sidney Chambers, a half alien, half human boy. A quest to find Sidney's alien father and the “Lost People” make for an action paced space adventure. Interesting and unique premise and characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
