Thanks to Netgalley for chance to read this one. I want lie I was drawn by the cover and stayed fir the story. This was a sweet and good read. I really enjoyed it.
This was a 3.5 solid good book.
I loved how the book was multicultural and how it talked about real life situations and the after effects they can have.
It was written in third person, but we did get both Manny and Carrie’s perspectives. In a romance, I definitely prefer when we get to see from both peoples points of view.
I didn’t love how in the synopsis, they listed a bunch of things to make it sound like the epitome of a romance, but a lot on that list should be absolutely expected and is the bare minimum? Kind of what made me want to read this. I feel like a lot of women think guys doing the bare minimum should be praised because it can be rare. I was worried this book would praise men for doing what they should be doing anyways.
Reading through this, I thankfully did not actually feel that was the case.
It did feel very adult, not just cause of sex, but because of their having to raise a teenage daughter together, their jobs, divorce, assault, the trust issues they had because of things they had experienced.
Overall, I thought it was pretty good! Not a favorite contemporary romance of mine, but not bad either.
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me review this ARC. I absolutely loved this story. Manny, Carrie and Emily's family circle had me hooked from the first page. The guilt that Carrie felt and the secrets she kept for so many years, how Manny felt throughout the story through the ups and downs, I felt the perfect connection with these two and I loved reading about how they rekindle their old relationship while juggling their careers and raising their teenage daughter.
