WOW! This book will take you straight into the captive's hell as she treis to keep herself and three children alive. The kidnapper's story and his revenge solution are straight out of a horror headline. This is a one sitting read. Don't start it until you have time to finish it. great read.....just WOW!!!!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Suspenseful and couldn't put down. Perfect for Halloween Month 🎃.
I was given a free ARC for my review on NetGalley.Trigger warning though:there is sexual, emotional and physical abuse.I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. It hooks you in from the first chapter.
Overland is the first book I’ve read by Ramcy Diek. As soon as I read the prologue, I was hooked. Ms. Diek created an atmosphere that was filled with strong emotions, intrigue and suspense.
Overland starts off really slow and at times I had to push myself to read the story. Once the story start to take off I couldn't put the book down. The author uses the characters as in children that will pull at readers heart strings. The author is able to bring compassion out in characters that readers would normally never expect to.
The story could trigger readers that have had sexual Violance and child abuse. The author doesn't sugar coat her story and how things happened. It is dark and the romance doesn't bring the light needed to leave some readers feels happy.
In the end Ramcy Diek created a story that in a way is choose your own adventure but remember there is consequences for those choices.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Ramcy Diek Overland.
A great winter read. Not for the faint hearted, this novel takes you on a ride with Skyla as a past decision she had made stirs up horrifying ideas in the mind of a deranged man. Sit tight to see how Skyla fairs.
Overland is billed as romantic suspense, but it isn't. The author herself, in a preface, admits to having a hard time determining the book's genre. At best, it's purely not well-researched suspense, with an unnecessary romantic element mostly bookending the bulk of the story.
The basic plot of this story (without giving too much away) is that Skyla is abducted from the parking lot of her family's insurance company by a vengeful lunatic and is forced to survive in an untenable situation. Her family--along with lovelorn coworker Troy, an unprofessional PI, and a mediocre police captain--more or less try to find her.
Skyla's captor is a Very Bad Man, who does unspeakable things to our protagonist; in her preface, the author wisely provides a caveat that the book may be triggering for some.
I struggled a lot with the book. It was very fast paced and readable, which is why it got the second star. However, its treatment of what is a truly horrific experience was unrealistic at best. The author may have been better served had she focused on the psychological trauma and the long process of recovery that a survivor of physical, sexual, and mental abuse experiences. As it is, the book ends with little fanfare; I flipped the page (well, swiped left; it's an ebook) expecting more only to discover that it was over. Hmm-kay.
I'm sure that any readers will find the book exciting. I'm just not one of them.
I was grateful to receive an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
A brutal telling of revenge taken and perseverance to survive. A families‘ hope and love unrequited. What happens after you survive ? #Overland #NetGalley
The good: the writing brings this plot and the characters to life. The reader is totally immersed into the story. The bad: if you don't like violence and darkness, this is not for you.
For me, it was just too dark. I'm giving it a four star simply based on the writing.

Solid 4 stars. The survival story of Skyla is fast paced and kept moving forward. The horrors she had to endure at the hand of her captor were both sad and revolting. The only thing that didn’t live up to the high standard that the rest of the book built was the ending. Very predicable and mostly unrealistic. But satisfying in this novel.
A mystery with a Nordic noir feel to it, with a fascinating storyline and a smart leading lady that is trying to understand the reasoning behind her own kidnapping.
Skyla has an altercation at the grocery store. This, with a bruiser who seems to be abusive. Since then, she has the feeling of being followed. She cannot shake it - even at her company's Thanksgiving party...
Troy, hand-picked by her father (owner of the insurance business - Overland) has worked there a number of years -as has Skye. A romantic moment is shared between the two of them. Following this, Skye brings the party's leftovers to the close homeless shelter...
A poignant story that is quite dark. Personally, I found myself more and more interested as the plot developed.
Many Thanks to Acorn Publishing and NetGalley for a good read.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to previw Overland by Ramey Diek.
A young woman is taken from the parking lot at her work. She is the daughter of a wealthy insurance agent and she has had alot of cases that impacted many people. Some of them hold grudges and for a long time..
Her family is desparate to find her and as time goes by it looks like she may be dead.
But people can be pushed to a limit and do anything for revenge.
fast read - 3 stars.
Oh this book was an absolute thrill ride. I lived it and loved the beautiful setting. Brilliant and fast paced with a lovely story too zx
