Love transcends all. Every book you read tells you this in one or another, yet fails to carry the thread any further. BUT, In THE DAY MY HUSBAND LEFT, Amy Miller takes a chance and actually proves to readers that sometimes, it truly does. Even though the genre says women's fiction, it's a very heart warming romance wrapped around a couple of personal memories that the characters must solve. A very good read.
Fairly easy and enjoyable read.
Not quite what I expected but still enjoyable. I actually quite liked Heidi in the end and enjoyed reading about her and her family
The Day My Husband Left Amy Miller
This book was a great read, full of life, love and drama. I took Heidi into my heart and loved following her and her family.
This book was an easy and enjoyable read.
While this was a lovely little story about a delightful little family, it’s a bit of a let down in the sense that I was expecting a cozy mystery. Still not a bad read, and I quite enjoyed it
This was a "middle of the road" book for me. There is a great deal going on in this novel, and to be honest, it wasn't what I expected when I started reading it. I would categorize this as a family drama that focuses mainly on the relationships of mothers and children, particularly mothers left to parent alone after the death of a spouse. There are many coincidences and similarities among the generations of women portrayed in the novel, and in some ways, that felt a bit unbelievable (yet possible). Unfortunately, I didn't feel that I fully connected with any of the characters. They weren't necessarily "flat" but they weren't fully believable either. Not a bad read by any means, but it did leave me wanting a bit more. It may have been that I was not personally in a place that I could enjoy it more. Thank you NetGalley and publishers for providing a digital ARC for review.
I really enjoyed this book, it's the first I've read by Amy Miller and will definitely look out for more! It was a well written story that was quite touching.
This was just an ok read for me. At times I was tempted to give up as I just felt I wasn’t engaging with the story but I stuck with it and at the end I was glad I did.
DNF - Did not finish. I decided not to keep reading this title because I did not connect with the writing or plot. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
Thank you NetGalley, the author Amy Miller and Bookouture for an early read of this book, in exchange for my honest review.
This book deals with a wife, whose husband suddenly passes away, and how she learns to deal with not only his death, but learning that he had found the child that they gave up for adoption in their young ages.
This book has many twists and turns throughout, and it deals with how a family who is reunited after so many years from the date of an adoption, learns how to cope with each other. Many emotions are shown throughout the book, including loneliness, hope, love, abandonment and grief.
This was a great read and I hope to read many more by this author.
New author Alert - The Day My Husband Left by Amy Miller had me gripped the whole way through. I didn't want to put it down! it was beautifully written and very heartwarming story about the love between a husband and wife and the way that it lasts even though one of them is gone. I loved this book and looking forward to read more from Amy in the future.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest opinions
Heidi has spent her days – and her years – giving cherished old furniture a second chance. But there are some parts of Heidi’s own life she believes are beyond repair. Secrets that Heidi and Johnny kept throughout their long marriage. Things that they were never brave enough to speak about, not even to each other. Now her husband is dead and he left a picture on his phone that is a mystery. Why was he on that street, why use your last breath to take a photo. A story that ties the past and the present. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Heidi and a Johnny were childhood sweethearts and twenty five years later are still happily married with two daughters. Heidi finds herself widowed when Johnny has a heart attack. When Heidi collects his personal effects from the hospital she discovers a message on his phone that he was going to send her. It is a photo of him outside a cafe she remembers and wonders why he was sending her a photo of that. Heidi decides to go visit the cafe and is shocked when she sees someone working there that is Johnny’s double. This photo is the start of many secrets being revealed by Heidi and Johnny. This is a lovely, touching story about finding courage to face up to the past, experiencing grief, loss and family ties. An emotional read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I had a very difficult time reading this book. Not because it was bad – not by any stretch of the imagination. But because it hit me on two different levels. One, I read it at a time when my family was apart from each other due to a job change and move. I could therefore relate to Heidi’s feeling of missing her other half (although I knew I would be back with mine in a couple of months). The other level is a bit of a spoiler alert, so I won’t put it here, but it was personal, and gave me a different perspective than other people might have. It was well-written and spoke to me. I would recommend it. For a detailed review, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a digital ARC of the book.
I thought this was just ok, the story was good but I didn't love the way it was written. Passable beach read for me but nothing memorable.
The Day My Husband Left is an unforgettable page-turner. Any time I had an minute to read, I pulled out my Kindle. I even pulled it out while waiting in line at the grocery store; it was that good. Because I read so many psychological thrillers, it’s hard for me to be surprised. This book had an ending I didn’t see coming! I’ll be telling everyone about this book!!
I initially thought this book was more of a thriller/mystery based on the title and cover but was not disappointed by the story! I enjoyed learning about the Eagle family and all the secrets they held. It was a very heartwarming story about their grief and strength. If you like family fiction, I'd definitely recommend it.
Beautifully written, heartwarming story about the love between a husband and wife and the way that it lasts even though one of them is gone.
Johnny & Heidi are happily married with two daughters.
They have a business doing up furniture.
Johnny has gone to Poole to drum up business that’s what Heidi thinks.
Heidi gets a phone call Johnny has had another heart attack ( he had one a year earlier) but this time he’s died.
Heidi goes to the hospital to collect his possessions.
On his phone is a photo of Poole high street which he was sending to her
Should Heidi try and figure out what Johnny was doing.
His best friend tells her to do it
Her mother tells her to leave things alone
Get your tissues ready this was one brilliant book
Thanks NetGalley
If you're looking for a heartwarming, emotional story about second chances this is the perfect book for you. I found myself getting emotionally invested in Heidi's story the farther I read. So much has happened to this poor woman and her family and it seems like the secrets just keep coming. This is definitely a story that will have you both laughing and crying as you experience all the highs and lows with the Eagle family.
This was a beautifully written story about Heidi and Johnny who have had a lifetime of loving one another. When Johnny passes away, Heidi doesn't know how she can possibly go on. Taking strength from the daughter they shared helps somewhat, however, Heidi simply cannot forget the the son that herself and Johnny had been forced in to giving up when they were teenagers.
When Heidi later discovers a photograph on his phone that appears to have been taken moments before his death, this could be the thing in which Heidi needs to put the past to rights.
This book was truly Marvellous!. I loved the depth that the author gave to Heidi, and hearing the love story that she had shared with Johnny was heart warming. Full of emotion this book really pulls you in and keeps you fully immersed in the story to the very end.
The storyline was well structured and is without a doubt a story that will stay with me for quite some time.
