The Missing Woman slowly but surely pulls you in.
Sabine goes missing and Erika is the last one to have any meaningful contact with her.
Erica at the beginning to me I thought Drama Queen ,oh please.
Little did I know what would happen as the twists and turns , none of which I expected or predicted started happening.
So many secrets, so many lies.
I did not know who Erica could trust but I was certainly cheering her on and hoping she could find Sabine.
The Missing Woman will surprise and delight you, add it to your TBR pile, you wont regret it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a fast paced read.
Love the use of Facebook comments to move the story alone quickly. Great way of adding loads of quick details and very entertaining to read.
What happened in the past wasn’t a big deal to me....to begin with but this book weaves the story together without you even noticing. It’s twist after twist after twist and all of them are huge! My mouth kept falling open in shock but the writing backs it up. This is how a fantastic thriller is done!
The Missing Woman is a slow start but stick with it. It’s one of the best books of this year!
The story captured from the first page and it kept my interest throughout. There were a lot of twists and turns and I never expected the ending.
Not bad
A quick read and ticks all the psychological thriller boxes and does have a couple of unexpected twists but its marred by insipid characters, from the lead lady ( I dont think we ever know her name, least I cant recall it ) to Sabine the lady who goes missing to ‘Tish’ who sounds more like a goldfish than a person, they all live in an insipid town, doing insipid things and it was kinda difficult to bring any reader enthusiasm to the party or to them
However at 60% the pace changed as more of the plot was revealed and even further on at 70% it did hot up again and it got a bit more exciting
The book was split into now, the recent past and the past past and I enjoyed the part from many years ago that detailed a road trip to Lake Tahoe
There are the inevitable secrets and lies and everyone finding out why and how Sabine is missing
There is not much else to say about it tbh, its seriously ok but thats as far as can go with the excitement for it
6/10

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Missing Woman. This book was written as for young adults and I was so ready to stop reading it because of the childishness between the women BUT then it started to grasp me around 60% and become a psychological read. I’m so glad I stayed with it because the last part of this book I was scrambling through the chapters to see what would happen next. I wish it didn’t take so long to get to the riveting end. If you can get through almost three quarters of this book, you will be glad you did, what a Terrific ending!!
This book proves that we never know what goes on behind closed doors even when the occupants appear to have the perfect lives. Lots of twists make this a very good read
Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author, for allowing me to read, enjoy and review this book. The story starts when a woman, Sabine, is being chased into the woods and we as readers are left to wonder what happened to her. This first portion of the story was brilliant because I was engaged from the first page. Erica is enjoying a 4th of July celebration at the community pool , with her best friend Tish and their kids. Sabine is part of their community but something happened between them that creates tension whenever one sees the other. They had an unpleasant encounter in the past and the night before the 4th, something spooked Sabine. Everybody is distracted getting ready for the fireworks, then Sabine disappears. This is a new author for me and I am a fan!
After reading her debut book, The Stepdaughter, I was so excited to read her second book, The Missing Woman. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC and this review is based on my complete honest opinion.
It's the Fourth of July and every neighbors at the town is gathered around the pool to celebrate fireworks. Erica sees Sabine, with her friends Monica and Carole, who are all elite people by the side of the pool. Then suddenly Sabine shoots Erica a look, that ran Erica's blood cold...a few hours later, Sabine's husband, Mark Miller says Sabine disappeared. And there were trails of blood on her door at her home and Mark admitted that someone had been threatening the family and that person would have abducted Sabine.
To me, the book started a bit slow however, as I read on and on, there were some unexpected twists and turns that you didn't expect and then I got hooked into the story! There were so many suspects, who had every reason to hate the Millers and so many theories and so as a reader, you are confused as who and why would someone abduct Sabine. It felt as if I am trying to solve really a hard crossword puzzle but not succeeding. I was completely engrossed into the book that I was determined to finish the book! The ending was unexpected and I am still reeling about the ending.
Overall, just like the first book, this book is totally unputdownable that will keep you into the story till the ending, with lots of twists and turns--worth five stars!
The Missing Woman is about friendship, lies and never knowing what goes on behind closed doors.
This book kept me guessing right to the very end.
Erica is enjoying the 4th July with her friends and children at the neighbourhood pool when she spots Sabine, one of “the other women” across the other side of the pool. Sabine then leaves and vanishes.....
I really enjoyed this book and it had me hooked from the beginning. Full of twists and turns. Bit by bit more backstory is revealed from key characters full of secrets and revelations. As the reader I felt like the author drip feeds information at just the right time to keep you interested and reading “just one more chapter”
Ultimately you never known what goes on behind closed doors and people, seemingly perfect lives are not what they seem.
This isn’t the first Georgina Cross book I have read and it won’t be the last. It definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
Thank you to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
Aa day at the pool and a woman, Sabine, is missing. This happened sometime between the pool and the 4th of July fireworks display, The story's narrator, Erica, doesn't know Sabine well. So Erica isn't too worried when Sabine had showed a momentary look of "terror" while at the pool.
As Sabine and her best friend and their children drive home they are stopped. It seems as if there os trouble at Sabine's house. Police and an ambulance are there and the front door is open...
A good suspense story that could have had a bit less descriptive narrative. I found myself passing by a page here and there.
Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the chance to read and review!
When you look like a happy couple, you have to be one, right? Well, yes, it most certainly will be true for a lot of people, but some fake it for years and years.
When you have money and fame, you can take those little not so nice things and put them on the backburner, right? Well, yes some people can and it also depends on what those little not so nice things are. Others will come to their senses and deal with it, because enough is just enough.
From the very beginning you feel that something is not quite right, but you don’t understand what is going on. The author really knows how to make her readers wait until she is ready to throw them another bone.
Of course, you start writing your own story with all the facts you have and that’s when you see that big parts are still missing. Why? Who? How? Those questions play hide and seek in your brain until, little by little, the author gives us the glue to put the pieces together.
Even though years may have passed since, a bond formed in the past will stand the test of time and events will still reflect on the present.
I loved the fact we were kept in the dark for a long time and I was happy with the way the story developed. What happens in public can be very different from what takes place behind closed doors. 5 stars.
Thank you, Georgina Cross and Bookouture
This is an interesting slow burn mystery about a woman who goes missing after a gathering at a local pool that ended with an evening of fireworks. There are multiple suspects and reasons for wanting this woman gone or could it be a possible ruse?
nothing or at least not much is what it seems in this quick read mystery. While the villain became clear somewhat early as well as what seemed to be a second villain. This book fluctuates from the present, the past and the near past. Fun interesting book
Utterly fabulous story of a woman who is not hat she appears to be. Loved every single page and highly highly recommend. Do not miss this one!
The missing woman is a really great, thrilling read and a fast page turner!
It’s a perfect combination of all the best qualities from the Desperate housewives, Gone girl and Charlie’s angels 🔥 So if you liked any of these, you should read it 😉 If not, you should give it a try anyway!
There are twists and turns in this book I can assure you, you won’t see coming!
3.5 stars
This was a slow burning story that picks up pace after the first quarter. First quarter takes time to establish all the characters. Loved the back story a lot, made me emotional and it has quite a few gut punching scenes which wrung my heart. Cheered the bonding between the characters. I am not sure why I connected to these characters probably due to Cross’s powerful writing.
Story opens with Sabine being pursued in the woods. It definitely piqued my interest. Next, focus shifts to the Fourth of July fireworks in a community, where golden couple Millers – city’s commissioner Mark and his gorgeous wife Sabine joined with her friends Monica, Carol, along with other residents’ families consisting of Erica and her friends Tish and Amanda. Sabine has stepped out to fetch something from her home then disappears into thin air.
First quarter of the story focused on how this missing impacted a small community where everyone close to Sabine or Erica appears to be hiding something, involved in one way or another. Everyone casts suspicions whether they carry weight or not in a private social media platform.
The plot has a lot of potential but lost some sheen with ludicrous red herrings, some absurd plot ideas. I can’t help but roll my eyes at the preposterous idea one character conjures which is just dye hair and impersonate as someone by presenting their identity to authorities. Another harebrained scheme is disguise by attaching mustache, don baseball cap to deceive someone as both of them are very familiar with each other.
I loved when Cross stumped me where I can’t pinpoint the culprit because Cross cleverly crafted each character where they are either hiding something or colluding. There are some clever twists which I didn’t see coming. Another brilliant aspect is how Cross blended backstory with the present one.
Overall, this is an engrossing story suffused with clever twists, uplifting friendship, and forgiveness.
Thank you Netgalley for kindly providing me a copy in exchange for honest review.
Ooh I have loved this one. It's a book which I haven't been able to put down! I have been completely addicted from start to finish and found this a book which has been easy to read in one sitting. This is a book, which has converted me as a fan of this author. I have found the writing style has fully engaged me and I have felt as though I have known the characters. This has been completely unique to anything I've previously read. I have had desperate housewives vibes on occasions but found myself completely engaged and invested in what was taking place. This is definitely a suspenseful and thriller of a novel. I haven't been able to put this one down. A definite five star read.
The story had an interesting concept, but the writing felt very amateur. Descriptions dragged on for too long, there were plot holes and inconsistencies, and many parts just seemed unrealistic.
Beautiful houses can harbor some awful secrets - that was my strongest emotion having read this excellent mystery novel. The disappearance of a successful and attractive neighbor sends her friends and acquaintances into a tailspin of lies until the sudden reveal.
What a great read! Many twists and turns left me unable to put the book down because I had to know what was coming next. Fast paced and an easy read I can’t wait for Georgina Cross’ next book.
