What does a forensic anthropologist do when her ex steals her research and claims it as his own? If she’s lucky enough to have a great aunt leave her an old Victorian in Cape May, NJ, she takes some time off, fixes the house up and opens a B&B.

With the arrival of her first guests, Anna McGregor is full of nerves, but is excited to launch her new business. When her very first guest dies at breakfast the next morning, it appears to be a case of poisoning and Anna is a suspect, so she vows to clear her name and save her business in the process. Now Anna, her best friend, and a visiting eight year old cousin need to figure it out before everything comes to an end for Anna.

A fun series set in one of my favorite spots in my home state of New Jersey. Some quirky characters, a cat, and the ocean make for a great future in this series. I’m looking forward to the next installment after just finishing the first.

I thought this book started out really well, but it dragged in the middle. The investigation was slow and didn't go anywhere until the end. I liked how she figured out who the killer was and the reveal. I liked the characters. #SconesandScofflaws #NetGalley

Scones and Scofflaws by Jane Gorman was an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Anna McGregor is fixing up an old house with Luke to become a bed and breakfast. Five guests arrive to stay in three rooms. The next morning one of the guests is dead at the breakfast table. Then the other guests come in. Time to call 911 for help. The B&B is closed down - then reservations are cancelled. Anna needs to solve this quick so people will come again to her B&B.
As with any new author that is new to me, the first few pages were a bit hard to get into. After reading this book, I am interested in Anna's next adventure. Thanks to Jane Gorman for a fun cozy mystery. Would love to try a scofflaw drink.
